Santander got lots of trade interest last year, but I wonder if that has cooled in the wake of a down season.  The O's might want to give him at least a half-season to get on track, and if he's hitting well, a deadline trade would be a distinct possibility

Thanks for doing a weekend chat!  I’m wondering why the NY sports press and lots of Mets fans are so excited about the signings of Escobar and Canha. Do either of these guys really improve the offense over what the Mets had in 2021?

I'd say so.  With Conforto a free agent, Smith/McNeil having down years, and Davis/Nimmo being good hitters with injury concerns, it helps to plug in two solid veterans like Escobar and Canha
Gives the Mets a lot of flexibility in deciding whether to trade any of those guys, too

I see rumors of Tiger's as fit for Freeman, I don't see it. Kris Bryant makes more sense with his ability to play 3rd or OF. Your thoughts?

I agree that it's not a perfect fit.  Torkelson might be a viable MLB first baseman as soon as this year, plus there's Miggy still in the 1B/DH mix, and Schoop perhaps best suited for first base rather than second.  

Not that Freddie Freeman in your lineup is really a bad thing, of course.  Schoop and Cabrera are both only contracted through 2023, and you can maybe get away with having Torkelson as a 3B for a couple of years (though that creates another logjam with Candelario)

I don't think Robles that has much trade value.  Besides, Colorado would be looking for a big bopper for their outfield, not a glove-first guy.

At least three of Moreno, Orelvis, Groshans, Pearson, probably at least one MLB-ready player (Biggio, maybe Gurriel), and a couple of other prospects thrown in to boot.

The Frank Robinson/Milt Pappas trade in 1965 helped make Baltimore of the best teams in history. Are there any trade that stick out as much as this one? Pappas was always serviceable with the O's but FRobby was amazing and made Cincinnati look like fools.

It seems like some small but important steps are being made in the process, so it looks like there's more optimism than there has been in a while that the A's could stay.  I'll set the clock back up to a 55% chance they remain in Oakland

Yes.  He's hit the 10-year minimum, and been so great that voters wouldn't have much reservation about making him a first-balloter
