As a framework, sure.

What do you make of Carlos Rodon’s market and health?
Mark P
2:29
The lack of Rodon news was interesting, especially in a market where so many other notable starters were signed pretty quickly.  It could be that teams just aren't comfortable with his medical situation, or took it as a red flag that the White Sox didn't issue a QO.
2:30
If I'm Rodon and Scott Boras, I have to think that another one-year (at a high salary) contract might be necessary, but then again, the post-lockout market is hard to predict.  It'll be such a free-for-all that Rodon might well end up with a nice multi-year deal from a team desperate for pitching

Ryan McMahon is the guy the Phillies need.
Mark P
2:33
He'd be an interesting add, but I don't think the Rockies are willing to deal him
The Rox are planning to contend next year, remember

If  I was to start a new rival league, I'd place franchises in Montreal, Columbus, Nashville, Charlotte, Indianapolis, Oklahoma City, Las Vegas, San Antonio, Portland, Sacremento, and Vancouver. Any city I'm leaving out?

Ogdenville, North Haverbrook, and Brockway

Local beat reporters say Mets may be in on Suzuki. What odds do you give that?
Mark P
2:36
By this point, we can reasonably assume the Mets are "in on" everyone to some extent, since they have the resources to at least consider every available player.

At noted earlier, the latest hints suggest Suzuki might prefer being on the west coast, but that's mostly informed speculation at this point.  If the Mets stepped in with a huge offer to blow away the field, I suspect Suzuki might be swayed

Tom Brady retires.

Former Expos draft pick?!  Wow
Great chat Mark!

How long have we been chatting now?
Mark P

So long that we even outlasted Tom Brady's career

Who’s the most likely candidate to fill out the Giants rotation?
Mark P
2:39
Likely not a big name, maybe a reclamation project or two that the Giants feel they can revive

Would a CBA change that gives the highest draft picks to teams with the best records that miss the playoffs need to level out the amount of games that teams play against each other? It would seem that teams who play in highly competitive divisions (like the 2021 AL East) would be hugely disadvantaged for the draft if they have to play each other 19 times, instead of the 6 or 7 times they play teams from other divisions. It would seem to be far harder to get high draft picks by winning in that division (but still missing the playoffs) than it would be to purposefully “tank” under the current system…

2:41
I'm in favor of fewer inter-divisional games, just because I personally get tired of seeing the same opponents so regularly (to say nothing of the competitive issues).  But, I suspect MLB isn't going to do anything that will lessen the number of Red Sox/Yankees games per year

Mariners reunite with Nelson Cruz? That’s a big bat that could put them over the hump
Mark P
2:42
There's been a lot of natural speculation about a reunion between Cruz and Seattle, though the M's might want to keep the DH spot relatively unoccupied so several players can be rotated through.  For instance, Kyle Lewis might need more DH games as he gets back to full health.
