If the lockout was ended, the next step would be to play the 2022 season under the rules of the last CBA.  This gives the players a lot of leverage, because they could then opt to strike in July or August, thus threatening the postseason (and the league's big postseason TV dollars).
10:33
Essentially, the league's tactic in locking out the players now was to avoid a repeat of 1994

In your opinion, will the super two rule end up being expanded? If so, how many players will be eligible for an extra year of arbitration?
Mark P
10:35
Tim Dierkes had a nice breakdown of the money involved in the Super Two expansion, though this was written before the union dropped their ask from 80%

I do wonder if the league budged even at all on Super Two expansion, the players would chalk it up as a win and move on.  Like, if the owners finally agreed to raise the Super Two number from 22% to maybe 25% (or even 23%), that might be good enough for the union.

Jordan Groshans and Otto Lopez for Matt Chapman?
Mark P
10:37
The A's would want more

How about Hoskins to Brewers for Josh shader and Cain?  Brewers get big bat and save Cains salary. Phillies get CF and closer. Realistic?
Mark P
10:39
Fun concept, but I don't think the Phillies would see Cain as an everyday solution in CF given his injuries and struggles over the last three years.  Hader obviously improves the bullpen, but losing Hoskins is a big hit to the lineup

Does your current job make you eventually eligible to vote for the HOF? (I think after 10 years)
Mark P
10:41
One has to actually be a BBWAA member, and to do that, one needs to actually apply for membership.

Huh...kind of wish I'd done that 10 years ago.  C'est la vie!

The White Sox need a second baseman. The Phillies need to begin replenishing their farm system. Does a Segura trade for prospects trade make sense? What if the Phils signed Correa & moved Stott to second base?
Mark P
10:43
Segura has long been speculated as a logical White Sox target, though the timing of such a deal would be interesting since (as you noted) the Phils would likely have a second move lined up.
10:44
For instance, signing Correa first would maybe make the need to deal Segura more urgent, so the Sox could lessen their offer.  On the flip side, if Segura was dealt first, Correa might then take advantage by trying to get more money from the Phillies

Lou Whitaker is getting his number retired by the tigers this year.   When will he become a HOFer?
Mark P
10:45
I would hope as soon as his next appearance on a veterans committee ballot

They said tomorrow's the last day to  reach an agreement without regular season games canceled. How hard is this deadline?
Mark P
10:49
The players have made the same case that tomorrow's deadline isn't "really" a deadline since it's totally of the league's creation.  However, common sense and the calendar dictate that a new CBA will have to reached relatively soon to have any hope of a four-week Spring Training and then 162 games

With a limited window and not much interest so far, does Conforto sign a 1 year deal with the Mets and hope for a better deal next year without a pick attached?
Mark P
10:51
With the Mets' other outfield additions, it kind of feels like they've already moved on.  So if Conforto did take a one-year pillow contract, it might not be with them.

Plus, there's a chance the qualifying offer system might be eliminated in the next CBA anyway, so that would no longer be a factor for Conforto's reasoning in taking a one-year deal

How surprising was the news that Oakland could receive revenue sharing again? Had their been any hint to that development prior to yesterday's posting? And is this simply MLB's way of saying "Thank you" to John Fisher for doing all the foot work towards a possible Las Vegas expansion site?
Mark P
10:53
Ha, that's a fun conspiracy theory.  I have to wonder what other teams feel about this situation, since you'd think it would annoy both the revenue-sharing payors and recipients alike.

What’s your thoughts on the steroid era and the hall of fame? Should they go in or is there a way to include them in some way?
Mark P
10:56
Personally, I take a harder line on players who were actually suspended once the PED rules were instituted.  So guys like Bonds or Clemens I'd cast a vote for, but I'd really hesitate on A-Rod, Manny, etc.

It isn't to say I'd never vote for a player who failed a PED test, but if there were other Cooperstown-level options on the ballot that didn't carry PED baggage, I'd opt for those guys first

10:57
Post-lockout, do you see any free-agent getting a $200 mill+ contract?
Mark P
10:57
Most definitely.  Correa is still getting a giant deal.  I wouldn't even be totally shocked if Freeman got all the way to $200MM, given the big-market teams reportedly interested

Is there any chance both sides will agree to play out the year under 2021 CBA terms, with the MLBPA agreeing not to strike in 2022?
Mark P
10:59
The MLBPA would need some kind of major concession to agree to that, since otherwise there's no way they're giving up their right to strike
Bryan
10:59
Please help me with my math. Won't happen but for my question, if the players & owners agree to a contract tomorrow, it will take 7 to 10 days for players to report to spring training. It will take at least 3 weeks to get in shape to play spring training games. It will take 3 weeks of spring training games. That is at least 7 weeks.  Please tell me how the season is going to start on time??
Mark P
11:01
The idea is that a four-week Spring Training will be sufficient.  Players are already considered to be in shape since they work out basically year-round.

Now, I do think it'd probably take a week after CBA ratification to actually open camps, since teams will want that in-between week to actually check in on players (for health reasons, visa reasons, etc.) and get some time to prep and handle arbitration/signings/trades/the Rule 5 Draft, etc.
11:02
So that would make it five weeks, and thus some postponed games in the regular season.
Ronda Rousey
11:03
Pablo Lopez and Max Meyer to the Red Sox and Bobby Dalbec,Jarren Duran and Jeter Downs to the Marlins. Who says no?
Mark P
11:04
Miami.  The Marlins seem eager to win now, and only Dalbec has done anything at the MLB level of that trio.  Plus, Downs really badly struggled at Triple-A last year

Is Kris Bryant a possibility for Whitesox?
Mark P

He'd be quite the answer to their right field need, but it isn't a totally ideal fit, and I doubt the Sox meet his asking price

Why does Ronda Rousey care about the Marlins or RedSox?? Isn’t she a farmer or pro wrestler now?? I don’t get the joke??

I mean...there's probably a decent chance that wasn't the real Ronda Rousey.

How do I know you're even the real Pittsburgh Bob?!

Which fan bases are usually most active in these chats?
Mark P
11:09
That's an interesting question.  I guess fans are more prone to ask questions about their favorite teams, right?  Even though it seems like many of the queries are more general asks on free agent destinations, trade fits, my walk-up song if I was a player, etc.

(Tonight's walk-up song is "Good Times" by Edie Brickell, btw.  Just the ideal tune to fire up a crowd!)
