Free agent signings can't be dealt until mid-June, so the Twins can't flip Bundy in such a deal
Kutter
9:57
Bogaerts has a no-trade clause btw.
Mark P
9:57
That he does, though I wonder if he might be open to a deal if the Sox did get an interesting offer (or if they told him Story was playing shortstop)
Rockies Payroll
9:58
How much more can we expect to see the Rockies add to their payroll? I looked into their Payroll situation is looks pretty fluid and with prospects like Zac Veen, Michael Toglia, etc on the way in a year or two - there could be some flexibility for future spending in 2023, 2024, and beyond. Do you see them becoming bigger annual spenders going to forward?
Mark P
9:59
Trying to predict the Rockies' next move is usually a fruitless endeavor, but in theory, you're right.

Then again, if you told me that they were cutting payroll in two years and trading Bryant, I also wouldn't be surprised whatsoever

Do the Giants have one more signing in them or do they stand pat? Missing on Story and Suzuki seems like the majority of their offensive off-season plan has gone awry.
Mark P
10:02
As much as the Giants have focused on pitching, I did think they'd go bigger on offense than just Joc.  This team did score a ton of runs last year, so maybe they think they can pretty much replicate that and won't miss Posey that much, but it does seem like one more bat is needed

Who is realistically on the block as a catcher? Center Field? I’ve been trying to piece together what a Yankees trade to help in both spots looks like. Diamondbacks for Ketel? But catching is so so light.
Mark P
10:04
Oakland has Sean Murphy and Ramon Laureano, addressing both positions

10:05
What do you think of the prospects heading back to Oakland for Chapman?
Mark P
10:06
If Hoglund recovers from TJ surgery ok, he is a very promising arm for the future.  Logue is another under-the-radar guy who didn't get much hype in Toronto but he can pitch for the A's almost immediately
McClutch Move
10:07
Andrew McCutchen to the Brew Crew just seems like a good Milwaukee-style move. In a platoon he can be the lefty masher
Mark P
10:07
Agreed.  Great low-key signing for the Brewers
Bird is the word
10:08
Really think the Jays signing Bird will be one of the better under the radar signings this off-season.  If he stays healthy he may be a key LHB.  Thoughts?
Mark P
10:08
A friend of mine is randomly a big Greg Bird fan, and always thought he'd be a special hitter.  If it happened on the Jays, my friend would be ever so delighted.

Did the Astros just decide to stand pat with what they had or were they genuinely trying to get story/Correa?
Mark P
10:10
It seems like they didn't actually make a late push to re-sign Correa.  For Story, Houston was reportedly a finalist, which implies they did make a legit offer.  Given the Astros seem to have a five-year limit on contract offers, maybe the Sox outbid them by adding the sixth year
Shocked in Atlanta
10:10
Never thought Braves would spend like this .Do you think their done?
Mark P
10:11
Since the 2014 Jays "ran out of budget space" at the trade deadline, Anthopoulos has always looked to save some spending capacity for in-season moves.  In short, no, he isn't done.
Mcfly
10:12
So who had Correa going to Minn????
Mark P
10:12
Not even that 2015 Sports Almanac would've predicted such a shocking move for 2022!
10:13
btw, how would an almanac with "every" major sporting result from 1950-2000 be that thin?  That is the only logical flaw I found in an otherwise airtight movie about a time-traveling DeLorean
Haves and Have Nots
10:14
Wasn't competitive balance supposedly a concern for players? This new deal widens the gap even larger, which we've already seen in the first ten days
Mark P
10:15
I actually disagree, since the most interesting part about this post-lockout flurry is the big number of teams who have been making notable moves.  The only teams who have done nothing are the ones who were already in rebuild mode (i.e. Baltimore, Pittsburgh) or who did a lot of their work pre-lockout

10:15
What kind of effect do you see on players coming out of a shortened sitting training?
Mark P
10:16
There are going to be a lot of injuries.  It's inevitable.

Seems like the Cubs are loading up to make a trade or two. They need a closer, any chance Kimbrel gets traded back?
Mark P
10:18
As funny as that would be, I suspect the Cubs have moved on from Kimbrel
Tim
10:18
The Phillies have 4 players that are not very good defensively.   Castellanos, Schwarber, Hoskins and Harper …. Was signing Castellanos and Schwarber a good idea?
Mark P
10:20
Signing both is a little eyebrow-raising.  I'd feel better about their situation if they had a real ace defender in CF, but Herrera isn't that guy.

That said, the DH spot will provide some breathing room, and another move might yet still be in the offing

I know you probably get a thousand Jose Ramirez trade scenarios, so I am going to try to be as legit as possible: Dodgers trade Lux, Michael Busch, Miguel Vargas, and Andy Pages to Cleveland for Jose Ramirez- Dodgers play Ramirez at second and third with Chris Taylor a super sub. Is that package too light?
Mark P
10:22
I do think it's a bit light, or else at least the Guardians would ask for more.

The other issue is that Ramirez hasn't liked rotating between the two positions in the past, preferring to just play every day at one spot.
Cameron
10:23
Bringing all the Rays questions full circle, do you think Cleveland would be interested in Austin Meadows in a Jose Ramirez deal?
Mark P
10:23
As part of a larger trade package, sure.

Speaking of Hosmer, should the Nats take on his contract to get one of the top Padres prospects and trade Bell?
Mark P
10:28
The Nats are another team I'm not sure really fit for Hosmer.  Myers is more plausible since he only has one year left, and the Nationals seem to prefer short-term deals.

Acquiring Hosmer and trading Bell isn't the kind of move a win-now team makes, and while the Nats aren't being ultra-aggressive, they did sign Nelson Cruz.

Marlins trade for laureno is that realistic or just rumors are this point he be perfect CF for them
Mark P
10:30
It does seem like a good fit.  Laureano still has some time left on his suspension, but the Marlins can use the stopgaps in CF until then
