It might be a question of crossing the tax threshold or crossing the second tier of the threshold, but then again, Phils ownership has said they're open to bigger spending.

Re-signing Herrera would seemingly put the brakes on trading for Kiermaier, but who knows, Dombrowski is always a possibility for an aggressive move

The A's seem to bounce back after every fire sale they have. Do you see them returning to contention in just a few short years?

I have little doubt that Beane and Forst can turn things around again.  But the frustrating part for A's fans is that they have to watch this team now take self-imposed steps backwards again when they had a contending core already in place

I get the Universal DH. However, nobody has been able to tell me yet if you still lose the DH if they go into the field?
Mark P

The DH rules haven't changed.  If your DH takes over a fielding position, you lose the DH spot for the rest of the game

Is the Corey Dickerson signing a sneaky good deal for the lefty deprived Cardinals?
Mark P
11:08
It's a very nice deal.  Cards needed a LH bat in the worst way, and if Dickerson's Toronto turn-around sticks, he'll make that lineup better

What are the Astros going to do with all of the money? More than 30 million under the CBT. Are they seriously cutting payroll?
Mark P

It's not like they're not spending, even if one more piece seems needed.  Houston is a good team as currently comprised, however, so they feel confident in rolling with the current roster and then seeing what they need some deadline time (or earlier, if a more pressing need arises)

What becomes of Christian Arroyo now? Bench or trade?
Mark P
11:11
Bench, maybe in a super-sub role since Arroyo said he's willing to take reps in the outfield

Does Milwaukee have the capital to trade for Jose Ramirez?  Would they?
Mark P
11:12
If they gave up their top three prospects and Ashby, yeah.  But that's a splurge I don't think the Brewers are willing to make

That's it for the first post-lockout chat, and man, it's good to just have a baseball-only set of questions.  Thanks for all the comments and questions, and the weekend chat will return in (as you might guess) 6-7 days.

fyi, if you're interested in more baseball Q&A, one of the many benefits of our Trade Rumors Front Office subscription is the exclusive weekly live chats. The more limited field means you're about 10 times more likely to get a question answered, as opposed to battling for space with over a thousand other questions in today's chat. For more on our memberships, check out this link:
