Not officially, but since there's been almost no public buzz about Porcello in two years, it seems like he's nearing the end
Dan
9:33
Are you surprised the Yankees didn't offer more to get Manaea? Seems like that wasn't much of a return.
Mark P
9:33
It did seem a bit light in my view, but perhaps the A's simply liked the Padres' offer more than whatever players the Yankees were willing to give up
9:34
Adrian Martinez, for instance, is big league-ready right now.  Perhaps New York wasn't willing to give up a comparable pitcher from its own system

Once adley rutschman is called up do you think he will DH on days he doesn't catch?  When do you think he gets the call?
Mark P
9:37
Probably late May, which allows for him to get healthy and get some Triple-A games under his belt to ramp up.  If all goes well, he'll be in Baltimore after Memorial Day
9:38
Wait, just checked the calendar....Memorial Day this year is May 30, so before then!

Phillies plan for the infield...? Segura, Bohm, Stott, Camargo, Gregorius. Seems like 5 players for 3 spots (Camargo sticks as the swiss knife guy). Does Stott get sent down when rosters compress...?
Mark P
9:39
I think injuries and performance will take care of this "problem," plus there's always DH at-bats available in a pinch.  If Stott is hitting, there's a better chance Gregorius is just released.

Is surgery an option for Degrom?
Mark P
9:40
No, since it's only a stress reaction.  As far as shoulder injuries go, it's not "that" serious, despite the ominous name.

Montas for Dom Smith... who says no?
Mark P
9:42
Oakland.  They'd want more than just Smith

When is Oneil Cruz getting the call up? Does he sign a Hayes type deal?
Mark P
9:43
Probably before April is over.  And Cruz wouldn't get as much as Hayes did, but it would be something in the Eloy/Robert range

What are your thought about that rumour Yanks might unload the farm to get Soto next off season?
Mark P
9:45
Cashman: We're willing to give you Anthony Volpe for Soto as part of a trade package.

Rizzo: That's got my attention, at least.  What else are you willing to give up?

Cashman: Give up?  It's ANTHONY VOLPE.  I was going to ask for Soto, Ruiz, and Lane Thomas.

Padres need offense BADLY. Where can they get it?
Mark P
9:46
Conforto is still out there, but I think the Padres are still trying to find someone to take Hosmer
Halo
9:47
Can we trade Adell?
Mark P
9:47
"Can," sure.  But I don't really think a deal is happening, lack of early playing time notwithstanding

Is Upton really worth losing a younger guy on a waiver claim to make room for him? Thanks.
Mark P
9:49
A team could have a roster vacancy due to injury, or maybe they trade a young guy in another deal to create 40-man space.
There are ways it can be done, but to your larger point, you're right....some teams might not feel Upton brings much to the table

What are your feelings about Cashman revealing the $$ and years that they offered to Judge to make Judge look bad for not taking it when actually Judge was severely under paid since he was called up?
Mark P
9:52
There's no way to interpret Cashman's comments as anything beyond laying the groundwork for a "we tried" case if/when Judge leaves.  It's pretty unusual for a GM to be so candid about contract specifics --- sometimes those details get leaked, not just spoken out loud.

Does Cleveland still trade ramirez? Contact value looks good for his production
Mark P
9:53
Ha, the Guardians moving Ramirez NOW would be darkly hilarious
Deep State
9:53
Do the extensions for Ramirez, Clase, and Straw that Cleveland's recently made suggest that they are trying to put a cost-controlled core in place in preparation for spending in the next offseason or two?
Mark P
9:55
The Guardians have spent the last 30 years locking up young talent like Clase and Straw early, and the Ramirez extension represents a fascinating new step for the franchise.  Ideally, the Guardians would like to never "rebuild" in the sense of tearing everything down completely, or even in the 3-4 year cycles of a team like the A's.  Cleveland's plan is to perpetually contend, while not getting too overboard with their limited spending --- you'll still see them trade guys before free agency, but at least now we have evidence that they won't do with this every single star
Cubs
9:58
Still a chance for a Hosmer trade now that the season has started?
Mark P
9:59
The Padres will always be open to moving that contract at any time, so sure.  I don't think there's a great financial fit with the Cubs, unless Heyward would be open to waiving his no-trade clause
Rich Minford

The prospect promotion incentive seems to be working to combat service time manipulation.  Who do you like in the AL Roy ?
Mark P
10:00
Bobby Witt was my pick
Lou
10:02
Trent Grisham is looking more and more like a trade piece, could the pads seek out Bryan Reynolds ?
Mark P
10:03
SD is known to be looking at Reynolds, but I'm not sure how willing the Padres would be to move Grisham.  Their ideal would be an outfield with Reynolds AND Grisham, plus Wil Myers and company...if Grisham is moved to facilitate a trade, there's still a left field hole to fill
Brooke
10:05
The Tigers look dangerously good, can they take the ALC?
Mark P
10:05
It's a distinct possibility.  They were my pick to win the division, in fact, though I think just about everyone else on the MLBTR staff picked the White Sox
Bobcastelliniscat

Likelihood the Reds leave Cincinnati sometime in the next decade?
Mark P
10:07
The Reds aren't being moved.  Too much history and tradition, and the GAB is still quite new.
