The Brewers' offense has actually been pretty good thus far, but Cain isn't showing much at the plate (nor is Tyrone Taylor).  Center field would seem like a natural target area for the deadline.

What's your take on the Schwarber/Castellanos signings so far...Clearly they are underwhelming, do you see a big turnaround?
Mark P
9:31
Ultimately yes, but I do wonder if the Harper injury situation is impacting their performance at the plate.  Clearly the Phils and Schwarber/Castellanos themselves didn't expect to be in the outfield virtually every day.

In hypothetic trade returns, who would get more between a trade for Trout and a trade for Juan Soto?
Mark P
9:33
Soto.  Trout is seven years older and already has the big contract attached, plus has some injury questions.  With Soto, his trade value is so high that it would be hard for the Nats to find a trade package that would actually be worth it
Kyle
9:34
For a guy they don’t have much invested in, the Padres are showing Voit a lot of loyalty. At some point, a DH hitting under .200 becomes untenable for a contender, right?
Mark P
9:34
At some point yes, but Voit hasn't even had 100 PA yet
Kyle
9:35
What to do with Muncy?
Mark P
9:36
There's some significant bad luck involved in Muncy's struggles, but he also isn't making much hard contact.  I find it hard to believe that his elbow injury isn't involved in some way.

Does Dalbac have options? Seems like a minor league breather might help. Dude is lost
Mark P
9:37
Dalbec indeed has minor league options remaining.  Casas is currently dealing with a minor ankle problem, but I have to imagine he'll be up relatively soon

I’ve heard Red Sox ownership has a firm “no $300M+ contracts” policy. Does that completely rule out a Devers extension or do they treat him as an exception?
Mark P
9:38
So offer him $299MM

Cubs
9:40
Besides the one year contracts, any chance Cubs trade away players like Hendricks, Wisdom, Schwindel, Ortega to create space for prospects?
Mark P
9:41
I don't think the last three guys on your list have a ton of trade value, but the Cubs would be open to it.  Moving Hendricks would be another step in the rebuild that I'm not sure Chicago is yet ready to make....but if they keep playing so poorly, they might revisit the idea

Are the Braves going to come out of their tailspin or is this just one of those years that can be chalked up to a post-Championship funk?
Mark P
9:44
I think the Braves have almost literally the same record as they did at this point last season, so it's far too early to write them off.  Especially in an NL East where everyone is struggling but the Mets
Ducky

Don’t really get the 10-team no trade clause for upton. It’s not like non-contending teams will be looking to add him at the deadline
Mark P
9:46
Upton has always been particular about where he plays, as all of his three big contracts had some no-trade protection involved.  I believe he has always preferred to play on the west coast, so it's possible his 10-team clause might cover some clubs out east.

Crazy to think teams could of had Hosmer for free 2 months ago
Mark P
9:48
Not exactly for free, since even in that proposed Mets deal, the Padres were still looking to cover a little over half the contract.

And, it should be noted, Hosmer has really cooled off over the last three weeks

Will Jp Crawford hit 54 home runs next year?
Mark P
9:48
Sounds like a pretty impossible mission for JP
Mark P
9:48
Will Willson Contreras and Cubs talk extension during their upcoming arbitration meeting?
Mark P
9:48
It's possible, but I feel like that ship has sailed, and Contreras will be on another team by August 2
Bob castellini
9:50
Would MLB ever consider realignment in a way that would group small market and large market teams?
Mark P
9:50
Highly doubtful, as the larger-market teams would cry foul
Montas or Luis Castillo
9:51
Who gets traded first?
Mark P
9:52
I think Montas.  The Reds haven't gone all-in on a teardown year, so I'll bet the front office might still think they can get back on track as early as 2023 (albeit with some changes).

Whereas with the A's, we've seen time and again that when they decide to tear it down, they gradually get rid of everyone
Joel
9:53
Does Albert Pujols hit 700 home runs this year?
Mark P
9:53
Pretty unlikely, the record is only 73
9:54
(serious answer: it'll be extremely close.  he might finish right at 700 on the dot)
Dodgers4life
9:55
Do you think the dodgers can get Juan soto with the amount of prospects we have???
Mark P
9:56
LA's system is deep enough that they could pull this off, except the Nats would want an absolute ton for Soto.  Rather than drastically reduce their farm depth for one player, the Dodgers might prefer to acquire multiple players using only a couple of those prospects
9:57
Or, depending on how the next couple of years play out, just wait to sign Soto if he's a free agent
fake GM
9:57
Poor chad green goes down with Tommy John before his free agent year. Do you think he will get 1 of those 2 year deals where he is rehabing the 1st year ?
Mark P
9:58
Very possible, even probable.  Wouldn't shock me if the Yankees signed him to such a deal in the next couple of months
GuarderBelt
9:59
Guardians have Espino and Curry in the minors, they need more pieces to compete. Do they move Plesac and if so, who's in on the bidding?
Mark P
10:00
Plesac isn't exactly doing a ton to help his trade value right now, so probably not.  Cleveland manages their pitchers as well as anyone, so they're only going to bring up their next wave of arms when the pitchers themselves are ready.
Re: Dayton Moore
10:01
But yes, it is unlikely that anything happens.  DM seems to have obtained unlimited tenure for some reason.  No heads will roll.  The losing and terrible drafting will continue.
