It's a tough situation, since it seems like not only are a lot of the younger guys not quite ready, KC also didn't expect their veterans to almost entirely struggle
10:04
Or, it could be that the Royals simply thought they were ready to contend too early.  As hard as it must be for KC fans to watch this, the memory of 2014-15 does linger as a concrete example of how Moore's rebuilding methods can work.
Though having to wait seven or eight years every time is admittedly hard for any fan to stomach
Ryan
10:06
Is Chapman done? He looks done.
Mark P
10:06
Apparently Chapman has been pitching through an Achilles injury, which would explain his struggles.  The Yankees should certainly be thinking about an IL stint to get him healed up and on the right track

Seven years is hard to stomach? Try being a mariners fan ………..
Mark P
10:07
As a Jays fan who is approaching 30 years without a World Series, I somewhat feel your pain.  And as a Maple Leafs fan, I definitely feel your pain.

With a big group of top middle infield prospects coming, do you think Amed Rosario is as good as gone by the deadline?
Mark P
10:09
Could be, though in hindsight, maybe the offseason was the time to move Rosario for peak value

10:09
Who do you see the reds acquiring from the Mets for Luis Castillo?
Mark P
10:11
The Reds will probably want something akin to the Jose Berrios trade package, so for the Mets, that translates to one of Alvarez/Baty, and one of Mauricio/Vientos.
Joel
10:12
Which player is having a great career that nobody talks about?
Mark P
10:12
He's not "underrated" since everyone acknowledges he's an excellent player, but Paul Goldschmidt is really putting together a strong HOF case

Is Dipoto’s seat getting hot?
Mark P
10:15
Dipoto only signed an extension last September, so probably not.

Will Kevin Kiermaier finish out his contract with the Rays? If you're the Rays: do you trade any of Franciso Mejia, Yandy Diaz, or Ji-man Choi?
Mark P
10:17
By this point, it seems like Kiermaier will indeed finish out that contract, which I wouldn't have expected at all.

As for the other guys, the Rays have shown they'll trade anyone at any time (except, now, for Wander Franco).  If they feel they get similar production for a lower price, any of Choi, Diaz, or Mejia will go.  But, that said, none are actually expensive, and Mejia is extra valuable with Zunino struggling so badly

Athletics moving to Canada eventually?

The Montreal Athletiques??

10:20
Any pre-season predictions you would like to change since the season is a quarter of the way through?
Mark P
10:20
My pick of the Tigers to win the AL Central isn't looking great

10:21
Who is Cashman’s Clay Holmes pickup this year for their pen?
Mark P
10:21
That's the beauty of random bullpen pickups.....could be anyone
Dave
10:22
What are the odds MadBum is traded by the deadline?
Mark P
10:24
Bumgarner is owed $37MM in 2023-24, plus the remainder of this year's $23MM salary.  (There is some deferred money in there.)  He can also block trades to five teams, so the D'Backs aren't totally free to openly shop him anywhere.

Beyond the money, Bumgarner's secondary metrics aren't good, so he looks to be primed for some serious regression.  I doubt a trade will happen unless the Diamondbacks eat a very big piece of that contract.

10:25
Who am I pitching for in September?
Mark P
10:25
The Red Sox, who will be contending for a playoff spot
Dave
10:26
Do you think the Diamondbacks could sweeten the pot by adding Peralta or Marte with a MadBum package? I know they don't like a rebuild, however with the young talent they have... it wouldn't really be a tear down.
Mark P
10:27
This may be splitting hairs, but it's only a "teardown" if they dealt Marte, and that certainly isn't happening since they just signed him to an extension.
Ty France
10:27
Any chance he works out an in-season extension with the Mariners?
Mark P
10:28
Already controlled through 2025, so there isn't any real rush for the Mariners.

10:31
With all the criticism about the A's teardown and ownership, why hasn't there been more discussion about how their horrible drafting in recent years has essentially forced their hand? They had top 10 picks from 2016-2018 and all they have to show is an oft-injured pitcher trying to make it as a reliever (A.J. Puk). Their first round picks from 2015-2019, besides Puk, gave them nothing. The farm was basically bare.
Mark P
10:33
The A's had success in the lower rounds, i.e. Murphy in the third round.  So it isn't like it was a total wash, but yeah, that's not a great run of first-rounders.

The Kyler Murray pick, for instance, is now kind of a weird footnote in hindsight.  But the A's essentially burned the ninth overall pick on a guy who literally never played for them

Why is Matt Olsen struggling so much
Mark P
10:35
This pitching-dominant season is throwing our usual view of offense out of whack, so Olson is still solidly (123 wRC+, 124 OPS+) above average at the plate.  Of course, Atlanta traded him expecting superstar numbers rather than "solidly above average," but again, it's only been 40 games in a new league for Olson
Yogi

Position players pitching a disrespect to fans?
Mark P
10:37
I suspect far more fans get a kick out of seeing Pujols or Molina pitch, once in a blue moon

Are you taking over or under on 10 players throughout MLB that hit over .300 this season?
Mark P
10:38
I'll take the over.  Though geez, there are only 19 qualified hitters over the .300 mark at this point
Cambo

In your opinion what is the biggest contributing factor to the offensive struggles this year- the baseball? The lockout messing with everyone’s timing? The shift?
