Don't worry, you can always root for the Nets in the meant.....oh, um, sorry.

Did the Cards make a mistake this spring by not signing a shortstop when there was a glut of them? And did they miss their window to upgrade at this position?
Mark P
9:42
Yes and no.  Keeping DeJong looks like a mistake in hindsight, but it was a risk worth taking based on his track record.  And, Gorman's impending presence at 2B was another factor --- if the shortstop duties are handled by Edman/Sosa/Donovan with Gorman as the everyday 2B, that's a pretty good scenario

MJ going to stay up for good? Can play a little OF and DH on top of catching
Mark P
9:43
With so much of the team still not really hitting, I don't see how the Royals could justify sending Melendez back down if he's still hitting well
Angels life
9:44
What do the Angels do now about winning and a new city to move to?
Mark P
9:45
This recent slump notwithstanding, the Angels are still in good shape, but the injury bug isn't helping.

As for the long-term ballpark situation, it seems like there's a distinct possibility that they could leave Anaheim when the lease is up at the end of the decade.  Whether that's somewhere else in SoCal or another part of the country entirely, who knows

Do you think the Yankees trade gallo by July  for bullpen help ?
Mark P
9:48
Gallo's trade value is pretty negligible right now, it's hard to project what a deal for him might look like that isn't a salary dump.

Over/Under 70 wins for the Rangers?
Mark P
9:49
I think they'll win more than 70, probably with room to spare.  They've kind of quietly been on a solid run the last few weeks, and they have a positive run differential.

What moves do you see the Giants doing? Trades? Off season signings? This surely isn’t their season, but with prospects coming up I can see next year as the year.
Mark P
9:51
As long as a team can get into the playoffs, it could be "their year" given the crapshoot that is October baseball.  I certainly would still favour the Giants' chances of getting into the postseason, especially with so much of the NL looking like writeoffs already

Manoah for Cy Young this year?
Mark P
9:53
With Gausman crushing it, Manoah might not even be the best pitcher on his team, amazingly

Is Seattle a buyer or seller? They're a tough read this year..
Mark P
9:55
If they can't get on track, they'll sell to some extent --- pending free agents like Frazier or Flexen, first of all. But I can also see the M's taking the route of both buying and selling, since they surely have their eye on reloading for 2023.
Given my love of Kelsey Grammer GIFs, I can only hope that I'm working on MLBTR if/when Seattle trades Frazier

Any word on how long TA will be out?
Mark P
9:58
He'll be put on the injured list, but I imagine we'll get the update tomorrow when La Russa meets with the media.

It's still early enough in the season that a lengthy injury absence for Anderson wouldn't technically ruin Chicago's season.....but it would come close

What positions do you think the crew is targeting
Mark P
10:03
Maybe rotation, if Peralta ends up missing a great deal of the season.  But another big outfield bat seems like a priority

What would a package from the Cardinals look like for Bieber? Excluding Gorman and Walker
Mark P
10:05
If those guys aren't involved, then the Cards wouldn't get him, since the Guardians would want an absolute haul back in return.  But, I also don't think Cleveland moves him at all, barring a truly silly offer from someone

How do you pronounce your last name?
Mark P
10:06
A common question.  It's spelled "Raymond Luxury Yacht," but it's pronounced "Throatwobbler Mangrove."

Who do you see the Padres trading for this summer?
Mark P
10:09
The luxury tax situation is still seemingly an obstacle to what the Padres might want to do, so unless they unload Myers/Hosmer or move some salary elsewhere, they'll have to get really creative.

In terms of positions, outfield is the obvious need.
Maybe DH if Voit can't really get on track
Your Name
10:10
If he opts out, would the Cardinals try to get Correa?
Mark P
10:12
Probably not, due to the aforementioned shortstop depth chart.  Plus, signing Correa would represent the kind of financial outlay that the Cardinals have traditionally not been comfortable making.  They've spent big on players, of course, but not the kind of deal it would take to land Correa
Tyrone Taylor
10:14
Do I go back to backup duty when Renfroe returns?
Mark P
10:14
If I'm the Brewers, I'm finding ways to keep Taylor in the lineup.  He's certainly a more viable option than Cain at this point, and possibly McCutchen too
Dodgers
10:17
Can we turn around Kyle Hendricks? And acquire him for fairly cheap?
Mark P
10:19
It's probably not a "flier" when a pitcher is still owed a significant amount of money, and the Cubs would have to eat quite a bit of that contract since Hendricks has now struggled for quite a while
Not to say that LA wouldn't consider him a reclamation project, but cheaper options could be preferred
Pillar
10:20
How long is he in the show? Does he finish the year in Los Angeles? How do you think he does?
Mark P
10:20
I think he'll have a typical Kevin Pillar 90 wRC+ type of season
Big Hurt
10:20
How do players with unsettled arbitration cases get paid during the season? Based on the lower arb number submitted pending the outcome of the hearing?
Mark P
10:21
That's a good question I don't know the answer to.  ("So why did you answer it, Mark??")

My guess would be that players get at least league-minimum salaries until their hearings, and then any backpay is paid back in a lump sum?
