"He's okay....for now" seems to be as satisfied as any fanbase gets with their manager, no matter the skipper's track record
Ryu replacement
9:10
who says no. Luis Castillo and Joey Votto for Ryu, Groshans, Tiedemann? Thanks
Mark P
9:11
Ryu has a partial (eight team) no-trade clause, so he very likely vetoes that move if Cincinnati is on his list.  Votto has full no-trade protection, and for years the buzz has been that he wants to remain a Red for life, and that he'd prefer to not add on the extra pressure of playing for his hometown Blue Jays.
But, while that particular deal might not fly, Castillo must certainly still be on the Jays' radar.

Even tho lots of their fans still think Andujar is Miggy 2.0, is there any reason the Yanks should trade him given he has 2 more years at low salary remaining and his value isnt exactly high right now?
Mark P
9:13
Since Andujar isn't out of options, there isn't any reason why the Yankees would necessarily feel compelled to deal him.  As frustrating as the situation is for Andujar, he can't get more playing time since it seems like the Yankees have other options they prefer to play.

Can Upton help the Mariners?
Mark P
9:15
Upton has basically been a replacement player for the last three years.  It would be pretty surprising if he suddenly became the Justin Upton of old.

Is Buck Showalter starting to tire of Jeff McNeil's rage? He pulled him out of the game with the Dodgers last night after Jeff threw a tantrum following a strikeout. I wonder if Showalter thinks that McNeil's attitude could negatively impact the clubhouse.
Mark P
9:16
If McNeil keeps hitting like he's hitting, I suspect Showalter will give him plenty of leeway

What is your guess on where W. Calhoun and M. Andujar end up?
Mark P
9:19
I suspect Andujar isn't going anywhere for the rest of the year, unless the Yankees package him as part of a larger deal.

Calhoun is an interesting case, and in such situations, I often look to a player's past organizations.  Maybe the Dodgers and Andrew Friedman still like Calhoun and think they can fix him, or perhaps Farhan Zaidi (who was the Dodgers' GM when Calhoun was there) might look to add him to the Giants' mix

Do you know if the MLBPA has done their work on an International draft? I believe that work needs to be done by July 23.
Mark P
9:20
There hasn't been any public word on the discussions between the league and the union about the int'l draft/qualifying offer question.  Frankly, I wonder if the league and MLBPA are keeping those talks under wraps, knowing that the public is pretty sick of CBA talk.
But you're right, the clock is ticking for a decision being made

Gotta believe the Braves dont exercise those options on Morton and Will Smith in 2023 to save 33 mil.
Mark P
9:21
Very likely

Is it possible we see Corbin Carroll debut this season or is 2023 more likely?
Mark P
9:23
Maybe very late in the season, but I'd lean towards 2023.  After basically not playing in 2020-21, the D'Backs' goal for Carroll this year might just be to keep him healthy and get him back accustomed to being on the field, without adding the pressure of a big league promotion

With Miguel Andujar requesting a trade and Duvall being shockingly bad, should the Braves trade for him?
Mark P
9:25
Don't look now, but Duvall has started to hit a bit more in the last week.

Andujar may be best suited to be a DH, which doesn't really help a Braves team that is already kind of shaky when it comes to outfield defense.

Warriors or Celtics?
Mark P
9:25
Celtics.  Feels like a team-of-destiny type of year for them

What trade would you make for the Cardinals to increase their odds of getting  WS this year
Mark P
9:26
Land another quality starting pitcher.  If the Cards end up having everyone healthy and thus a surplus on arms heading into October....that isn't a problem
Manny M
9:26
Hey Mark, what's up? It's Manny Machado
Mark P
9:27
Let's see, Machado starts with "M," so I have no reason to doubt this is legitimately him.  Hello Manny!

Should hte Nationals try to trade me?  Who would be interested if they did?
Mark P
9:28
They can try, but that's an awfully tough sell unless the Nats eat the big majority of the money left on Corbin's deal, or they swap him for another undesirable contract

Guardians trading for Andrew Benintendi at the deadline to solidify  there outfield for playoff push???
Mark P
9:29
Benintendi would be a nice fit for the Guards, but I generally hesitate when it comes to inter-division trades

What does Tampa bay need to do in order to increase their odds of moving through playoffs to get to WS?
Mark P
9:31
Just getting into the playoffs is half the battle, and the Rays already seem in great shape to return to the postseason.

I think the adjustment the Rays have already made is going back to more standard rotation set-up, so they're not going to be heading into October with a rotation full of untested rookies
Bobby
9:33
With the Angels collapsing, who gets that final wild card spot in the AL?
Mark P
9:33
Again, it's the first week of June.  Maybe too soon to write the Angels off entirely, especially since so much of the AL is still under .500

What long term plan if any do the Athletics even have?
Mark P
9:35
We're all pretty familiar with Oakland's game plan at this point.  Churn through talent and never entirely burn things down, but eventually reload enough to create another contention window of 3-4 years before everyone becomes "too expensive" to retain

Are Nestor Cortes peripherals  saying he's  the real deal or is it luck? Also any potential  Yankees pickups at the deadline?
Mark P
9:38
Whole lot of red numbers on Cortes' Statcast page.  The guy has just been unreal, and a huge boost to the Yankees.
as for deadline targets, the outfield and bullpen seems like obvious areas of improvement
