Favorite Vin Scully call?
Mark P
10:01
The one where he claimed Matt Kemp was angrily yelling "that's fertilizer!" at an umpire
Just classic.  Scully was the GOAT.

Yanks had a great deadline, It seems like they covered every area of need. Are they just going through a rut right bow or is this something that should be a serious concern?
Mark P
10:02
They were due for some regression at some point, and with a big division lead, a slow few weeks isn't a huge concern
RedSox
10:04
Will they fire Cora before the end of the season?
Bloom and Gloom
10:04
Does John Henry fire me this winter?
Mark P
10:06
Ownership didn't seem to have much patience for Dombrowski or Cherington despite WS titles, so it wouldn't be a shocker if big changes are made.

However, it would seem like ownership is committed to overhauling the organization and making it more "Rays-like" (or perhaps "Dodgers-like," given the payroll disparity).  To that end, Bloom needs more than a few years, and I think the idea was that they could do this while still remaining competitive.
10:07
And, it isn't like the Sox are completely out of it, since they're only a few games out of the wild card and they made some effort to improve by adding Pham and Hosmer.

Ohtani or Soto? Who gets the most dollars?
Mark P
10:08
Soto because he's significantly younger
Matt
10:09
How does Austin Riley’s extension factor for Devers? Correcting for playing time, Devers has 128 wRC+ while Riley has a 127 wRC+. Devers holds a tad more defensive/base running value, but they are the same exact age
Mark P
10:10
Devers was reportedly looking for something closer to $268MM.  So I don't think he'd be too open to taking something akin to Riley's deal, especially since Riley's contract is already pretty team-friendly for a mega-deal

Did your team think this was one of the trade deadlines most exciting/shocking/relevancy in a long time?
Mark P
10:11
Absolutely.  The Soto trade alone was monumental, but there were plenty of big moves by a variety of teams.

Only one small move from the White Sox? That's an insult to the fans
Mark P
10:13
As many have pointed out, the White Sox have one of the weakest remaining schedules of any team remaining, so that can still help them down the stretch if they get caught.

But, Rick Hahn himself called the lack of deadline moves a disappointment.  This team has a lot of holes and will be hard-pressed to catch up to a Twins team that was already better and seemed to upgrade

How do you see the Mariners managing the innings of Gilbert and Kirby?  They can’t completely shut them down like the Nats did with Strasburg all those years ago.  Can they?
Mark P
10:15
They won't be shut down entirely.  You'll see the M's piggyback them, or perhaps move them to the bullpen temporarily.
Playoffs
10:16
Which teams you think will make the post season?
Mark P
10:17
Right now I'll say...
AL division winners: Yankees, Twins, Astros
Wild cards: Blue Jays, Rays, Mariners

NL division winners: Mets, Cardinals, Dodgers
Wild cards: Padres, Braves, Phillies

Are you surprised that the Rangers didn't do much at the deadline this year?
Mark P
10:18
Not overly.  The Rangers were kind of the fence between selling and buying, and ultimately chose against much of either.  They'll be aiming for the offseason for their heavy lifting, since they want to win in 2023

Yoshi all day ba-beee!
Mark P
10:20
Yoshi is a pretty solid pick.  Yoshi and Luigi are usually my backup racers if my opponent takes Koopa Troopa.

Do you think the Jays will regret not trading Moreno, Martinez, etc for additional arms? Or will the 2023/2024 team be more happy they were kept around?
Mark P
10:21
If hindsight is 20/20, they're probably more regretting not trading Pearson, Biggio, or Groshans two years ago.
Matt
10:21
Is there a difference in FO goals between “making the playoffs” and “contenting for a WS”?  Like, maybe we make the wild card but realistically aren’t getting past the ALDS - do most FO still go all in for it or do they hold back because they’re not “really” realistic champs?
Mark P
10:22
It maybe differs a bit for every front office, but as long as you're in the bracket, you have a chance.  The Braves weren't many people's top choice going into last year's postseason and look what happened.

How long will Cubs persist in acting like the Pirates & Rays? Highest game-day experience cost in the game….
Mark P
10:22
Well, I think Chicago fans wouldn't them acting like the Rays if it meant the Cubs had Tampa's record, but I see what you're saying.
Josh
10:23
Do you think the Redsox should have traded JD /Nate as well for young controllable player's?
Mark P
10:24
Like I said earlier, the Sox are still trying to get into the playoffs, not totally tear everything down.  Now, moving Vazquez does seem pretty counter-intuitive to that, and I do think JD/Eovaldi would've probably been moved as well if another team had made an offer that the Red Sox really liked
Oriole george
10:25
If Rutschmsn for Orioles keep getting better and better like he has been doing and they make playoffs .. does him being a catcher helping all their pitchers in addition to his offense possibly move him to top of rookie of the year? I know Rodriguez in Seattle has been the favorite but things change
Mark P
10:26
Don't forget Jeremy Pena in this discussion as well.  If Rodriguez struggles in his return from injury, that opens the door for Rutschman.

But man, what a class of rookies this year.

Elias indicated he plans to be active adding players in the off season. What would you expect he does?
Mark P
10:27
This'll be very interesting, since this is the first time Elias will be adding and not subtracting.  So we don't really know yet what his methods are like, even if it's probably safe to assume he won't go totally overboard and start signing guys to $200MM deals.  The Orioles' ownership situation is also a big factor in whatever next steps the team takes.

What do you think of some tans take, that Zaidi was stupid to not trade Rodon and Joc?
Mark P
10:29
Pederson was on the concussion-IL, which surely scared some/most teams off.  An injury is bad enough, but something uncertain like a concussion is a particular concern (thankfully, it looks like Pederson is fine, and is already back off the IL).

As for Rodon, the qualifying offer is a factor here again.

How improved do you think the Jays bullpen is after the recent additions? Are are they improved?
