"Arrived" is a bit of a reach.  I think KC needs help in both the hitting and pitching areas.

The Cardinals thought they had there outfield set last year and now it's a question mark for next year.
Mark P
8:57
Funny how baseball works, eh?  If you told me before the season that Bader and O'Neill would both be having such tough seasons, I would've thought STL might be in trouble.  But, here we are.

Carlson is still a building block piece, and maybe guys like Nootbaar or Donovan can keep it going.  And, Jordan Walker has been playing some outfield this season in the minors.

Would Judge to the Rangers make some sense?
Mark P
8:58
A big push for Judge is just the kind of aggressive move I can see Texas making.  Adolis Garcia can easily slide over to left field, in such a scenario.

Where’s Bogaerts going and for what contract? Any chance he’s sticking in Boston?
Mark P
9:01
Bogaerts' slump over the last month isn't helping him, but I think he's still going to easily clear $150MM in free agency.  I could possibly see him take a Correa-esque shorter-term contract with an opt-out next winter, if he isn't satisfied with 2022 as his platform year.

And I would be surprised to see him stay in Boston

Has JD Martinez played himself out of QO consideration with his past couple months of play?
Mark P
9:03
I had JDM as a borderline qualifying offer candidate, and that "borderline" is now leaning towards no after another rough week of play.

What does a contract for Ross Stripling look like this offseason? Would TOR consider giving him a QO?
Mark P
9:07
I didn't include Stripling in my rundown of QO candidates, though I maybe should have given how solid his season has been.  The Blue Jays didn't issue Matz a QO last year, however, and i can seem them passing on a QO for Stripling for some of the same reasons.  Re-signing Stripling seems like a good idea for the Jays, however
9:08
Stripling turns 33 in November, but I can see him landing a three-year deal from a team that will say "hey, you're a starter, no doubt about it."

Does Tatis's suspension get the Padres under the luxury tax number for this year? Or did taking on Soto and Bell's contract put them far enough over that the suspension doesn't offset enough $$?
Mark P
9:11
Both Roster Resource and Cot's have the Padres just a couple of hundred grand over the $230MM threshold, so it's going to be very close.  Keep in mind that RR/Cot's are just projections, so it could be that for the Padres' internal calculations, they might be just a touch under.

9:12
How much of a red flag is Tatis' suspension in today's game? Does he become a clubhouse periah? Will other players put up with his behavior/believe his excuse?
Mark P
9:13
It seems like the Padres front office and clubhouse are all pretty upset, and understandably so.  Happening this early in his career, it could be a needed wake-up call for Tatis.

Why sign a top SS with how good Hoerner has been?
Mark P
9:15
The idea might be that Hoerner could be moved around the diamond as a super-utility type, rather than as an everyday shortstop.  But you're right, he has looked really good this year, and it seems like he definitely has the glove for the shortstop position.

It gives the Cubs some flexibility in what they'll be looking for this winter, if they pursue any bigger names at all
Dan
9:16
Does Arenado opt out? Or does he get a reworked deal before the season ends?
Mark P
9:17
My prediction is reworked deal.  Arenado seems to love playing in St. Louis, the team is winning, and there's surely interest on management's part in keeping him as a long-term cornerstone
Orioles

Any chance we go after a big name veteran arm such as degrom or verlander? If not what big name free agent is likely to come to baltimore since the check book is open?
Mark P
9:18
Elias stated earlier this week that the payroll would definitely be going up, though obviously he didn't state any concrete numbers.  Boosting spending to even $100MM would be a massive leap considering how little the O's payroll currently is, even if fans might be disappointed that the team isn't suddenly pursuing a Verlander or a deGrom
9:20
It's hard to predict Elias' plans because we've never seen what a "trying to contend" Mike Elias front office looks like.  I kind of doubt it'll be any huge names added, maybe just a few third-tier free agents, and maybe a second-tier type of FA or trade acquisition.

Out of the four teams who fired their manager this season, which spot would be the most appealing for you as a manager?
Mark P
9:21
With the caveat that I think the Phillies will just keep Thomson, it's poll time!
Which managerial vacancy is the most appealing to you?

Angels (8.7% | 29 votes)

Blue Jays (61.3% | 204 votes)

Phillies (11.1% | 37 votes)

Rangers (18.9% | 63 votes)

Tom Ricketts
9:23
Do I start really investing in the roster again this offseason, or is that timeline another year away?
Mark P
9:24
(Ricketts = Cubs owner)

With the Reds and Pirates still struggling and the Brewers maybe hitting a bit of a crossroads (especially if Stearns were to leave), this could be a good time for the Cubs to start reloading.  The Cards are still a big obstacle, but if the rest of the division is looking shaky, there's room for the Cubs to surprise
Angels Fan
9:25
I read that the Angles were probably going to approach Ohtani this winter to discuss an extension and that if Ohtani’s camp indicates he instead prefers to test free agency, the Angels may try to trade him before the start of next season.  Do you think this is probable or do you think they’ll wait until next summer to see how good the team is next year before potentially trading him (assuming no extension)? Obviously, they’d get a better return this winter.
Mark P
9:27
I lean towards the idea that the Angels might wait until midseason, unless a major offer emerges in the offseason.  The Angels always seem to *want* to contend, so the idea of moving Ohtani as kind of a step-backwards move might not appeal to ownership.  Keep in mind that Arte Moreno didn't even want to consider Ohtani offers at the deadline, so there may yet be a long way to go before Moreno green-lights a trade, even if Ohtani does say he's leaving after 2023

New Tiger GM, whomever he should be, will have somethings to work with. A solid bench (also known as 2022 starting lineup) and a pitching coach how can make chicken salad outta chicken u know what   . BE OPPTOMISTIC!!
Mark P
9:30
We've seen teams rebound from "seasons from hell" before, and it could be that all the Tigers need is a new voice in the front office and any luck whatsoever (as opposed to the literal zero amount of good luck they've had in 2022).
Here's Johnny
9:31
Has Johnny Cueto earned himself a QO?  If the White Sox didn't give Rodon a QO, is there any chance that they would give one to Cueto?
Mark P
9:31
It's a fun idea, but Cueto's age and shaky secondary metrics likely rule out any chance at a QO.  I do suspect Chicago will look to re-sign Cueto for another year.

Nathaniel Lowe.  Rangers MVP?
Mark P
9:34
Lowe is still only sixth in fWAR on the Rangers, as great as he's been over the last few weeks.  But, I do think Lowe has done a lot to cement his place on the roster going forward, as opposed to a player the Rangers might look to flip for a more established name

What does an Adley Rutschman extension look like at this point?
Mark P

Maybe what the Rays gave Wander Franco?

Phillies extend Hoskins,  trade in off-season or trade deadline next year.
Mark P
9:37
Opening up first base as a fallback position for Schwarber or even Castellanos might be a wise idea, so I can see Hoskins being dealt.
