It's hard to imagine Atlanta trading any of their core group (Riley, Olson, Acuna, Albies, Harris, Fried, Strider, Wright, Contreras) given just how good those guys are, plus most are already locked up under long-term control.
12:22
If Swanson re-signs, that MIGHT make someone like Grissom expendable in a trade, but there's also a chance Grissom is moved to the outfield

Is Spencer Steer the new Mike Trout?
Mark P
12:24
Trout went 0-for-3 in his first MLB game, so it's clear that he isn't in Steer's league.

Will the Dodgers cut payroll and allow younger players their shot next season?
Mark P
12:27
I don't expect the Dodgers to alter their strategy all that much.  They've got a lot of money coming off the books and I'm sure they'll use that space to land a big name or two, but they'll continue to gradually work their younger guys into more regular playing time.

Someone like Vargas could be the most logical candidate to receive a larger role, if Justin Turner departs
TIGERS GM JOB
12:28
I just put a call into those I know in the Tigers ownership, gave you a thumbs up for the GM job!  Now, it's up to you!  Good luck!
Mark P
12:28
Awesome!  The job is as good as mine.  I might as well start looking for apartments in Detroit right now.

When should the Reds focus on returning to contention? 2024? 2025?
Mark P
12:29
2024 seems realistic, with 2023 being used as another reload year to see what they have in some younger players, and giving prospects another year of development

Who will be SEA's top targets in free agency?  Seems they might have more payroll space than they can effectively use....
Mark P
12:32
Middle infield, with Frazier hitting free agency.  As much as the M's like Crawford at shortstop, they could possibly shift him over to second base and acquire one of the big free agent shortstops.

Haniger and Santana both being free agents opens the door for another big bat in the lineup, but the Mariners might also want to keep some lineup flexibility in case Lewis and/or Kelenic emerge

Nolan Gorman for Pablo Lopez. Who says no?
Mark P
12:33
Gorman is the type of centerpiece Miami would love in a Lopez deal, but the Marlins would want more than just one player

Thoughts on JRod’s deal? Overpay, just right or JR left money on the table?
Mark P
12:36
I like the contract, it's a fascinating move for both sides.  Plenty of build-in opportunities for both sides to walk away, yet also plenty of built-in ways for the M's to lock up a superstar and for Rodriguez to get paid like a superstar

Are the Guardians toast with the loss of Plesac and Civale.
Mark P
12:37
"Toast" is a stretch given how the White Sox and Twins have both been so inconsistent.  Cleveland can still pull out a division title, but it'll require at least one of Curry, Morris, or McCarty to step up, which is a big ask of rookies.
MUNCY
12:38
Your thoughts on keeping Muncy in the lineup?  At this point, he is really hurting the team.  Roberts refuses to put him in the 7/8 slot in the lineup.  Problem being, the Mets are about 6 games back of LA for the best record.  IF the Mets overtake the Dodgers and they meet in the playoffs, Mets have home field, which my kill the Dodgers....
Mark P
12:39
Muncy has quietly been hitting really well since the start of August, so his season has finally started to turn around.

Should MO try and extend Quintana?
Mark P
12:40
I suspect the Cards let Quintana go in free agency, but a reunion might be possible if Wainwright retired

will the orioles take 6+ from the Jays this month and be a playoff team?
Mark P
12:41
As a Blue Jays fan, I am dreading and expecting this very scenario.  Toronto has a lot of games left against the O's (who seem to have the Jays' number this season) and against the Rays (who have had the Jays' number for the last decade)

Anthony Rendon has a no trade contract... Could he possibly be dealt if he was willing?  Does that happen?
Mark P
12:44
Rendon's injuries and huge salary are bigger obstacles to a deal than the no-trade clause.  If he was willing, I'm sure he would at least consider waiving it for the right situation, but such a "right situation" for everyone is very difficult to find

Bold prediction for the last month of the season?
Mark P
12:46
Arizona ends up surprisingly close to the last NL wild card spot
Marlins
12:47
Don’t you think Stallings is a non-tender candidate? If so, Lopez for Moreno and others from Toronto makes sense.
Mark P
12:49
As rough of a season as Stallings has had, I don't see the Marlins non-tendering a guy just a year after giving up a pretty substantial prospect haul to acquire him.

Doesn't mean the Marlins wouldn't ask for Moreno in a potential Toronto trade, but I don't think Stallings is a non-tender candidate.
