If AJ Preller could Quantum Leap back to August, does he still make the Soto trade? There’s no way he’s worth $500 million, but it’s hard to picture Soto lowering his price. This seems like a potential disaster.
Mark P
9:50
Preller (and Padres ownership) don't have to make a decision on Soto right now, since he's still under team control through 2024.  Maybe if you're the Padres, you let Soto play it out in 2023, hopefully he posts his usual monster numbers, and THEN you start looking into that $500MM extension

Does AJ Hinch lose his job when a new gm arrives?
Mark P
9:51
Nope.  Seems like the Tigers are all-in on Hinch

Who else can reach 700 hr?
Mark P
9:55
Not saying it'll never be done again, but for now, it's absurd to say that any young star like J-Rod, or even established superstars like Trout or Judge "can" get there.  They "can" if absolutely everything breaks right, but it's also a milestone reached by only three players ever

Have you actually seen Gunnar Henderson play?  Five tools, yet he is incapable of having a Julio like season?
Mark P
9:57
Henderson is a terrific young talent, but I'm just saying that it's rare to see a rookie immediately burst onto the scene like Rodriguez.

Between J-Rod/Adley and Strider/Harris, it's wild that the ROY runner-ups in both leagues will each be better than a lot of other ROY-winning seasons in history

Hey Mark, what happened to Kelenic? Can he be a mlb regular at this point? He got passed over for a September promotion by Trammel
Mark P
9:59
Based on some rumblings prior to the trade deadline, the M's have some concerns about Kelenic's inability to hit off-speed pitches, to the point that Kelenic might be a trade candidate

Now, Kelenic is still crushing Triple-A pitching, but for a Seattle team in contention, they felt Trammell was better suited to help them win now

No doubt, new ownership brings in all new management in Anaheim, right?
Mark P
10:01
Almost certainly

Why is Steven Kwan almost never mentioned in the AL ROY conversation? He is hitting around .300, great leadoff hitter with speed and plays gold glove defense.
Mark P
10:04
Kwan is having a fantastic year, but it speaks to the wild amount of rookie depth that he's basically a non-factor in voting

Do you see Judge...because of his size...and the value of his bat...eventually...4 or 5 years...moving to first base?
Mark P
10:07
Sure, 4-5 years down the road.  But people have also been predicting an "eventual" move to 1B for Judge for years, and he just keeps delivering good defensive work in the outfield.  This is a weird thing to say about a guy who's an acknowledged superstar, but if anything, Judge is an underrated as an athlete

How did the white Sox let me leave in free agency
Mark P
10:09
The Sox had more info on Rodon's health than anyone, and were worried enough that they didn't even issue a qualifying offer.  In hindsight, bad move on their part.

How do the Orioles upgrade next year? Free agency? Trades?
Mark P
10:11
All of the above, really.  I could tend to lean more towards free agency, since the O's might not want to start dealing from their prospect stockpile just yet (unless they have reservations about a youngster that the rest of the league likes).

Will the Guards hang on to win the Central? If you had to choose between Kwan and Oscarf Gonzalesor the long termG, which one would it be ?
Mark P

Kwan
Chris Young
10:13
What 2 SP do I sign this off season?
Mark P
10:14
(Chris Young = Rangers GM)

I'm not the first to note this connection, but Ross Stripling has some Texas ties and could be interested in a semi-homecoming.  Stripling isn't a top-tier name but he's had a solid year in Toronto and will get a lot of attention this winter.
10:15
Circling back to the earlier comment about the Rangers having young depth to trade, Texas could opt to package a prospect or two in a trade to land pitching, rather than go the free agent route.  For a team with so many position players on offer, the Rangers could be a fitting trade partner for a pitching-deep team like Miami
