Is he waiting for the A’s to settle their stadium issue before expansion?
Mark P
9:20
Correct.  The commish has said that expansion won't be addressed until both the Rays and A's have their ballpark situations (or potential moves) figured out
Dodger Dog
9:22
What do you think the Dodgers are gonna do this off season? Let Trea walk? Trade some minor league depth for a SP? Tender Bellinger?
Mark P
9:24
The Dodgers quietly have a ton of money coming off the books over the winter, so I expect them to be one of the offseason's most aggressive teams.  Naturally, they'll need to spend to fill some holes, and I suspect at least a couple of free agents (i.e. Kershaw) will be retained.

But they have enough flexibility to acquire one major name, land multiple second-tier types of free agents, and maybe still have room to sneak back under the luxury tax line and reset their tax status
9:25
Bellinger seems like a non-tender at this point.  LA has enough in-house arms that their pitching moves might be more akin to re-signing Kershaw and then seeing if they can land the next Tyler Anderson or Andrew Heaney.

Do you think the orioles end up leaving Baltimore?
Mark P

No

Could you see the tigers going after Xander Bogaerts this offseason?
Mark P

No

9:28
Chances SF can re-sign Rodon and trade for Ohtani if they take Rendon and half his contract?
Mark P
9:28
Signing Rodon seems like a distinct possibility.  If the Angels did trade Ohtani, doing it to facilitate a salary dump would seem like a real waste of a prime trade chip.
Half Gallen
9:29
Is Zac Gallen another Cy Young candidate?
Mark P
9:30
He'll get some votes but probably not at the top of the ballot.  But, let's give a shoutout to Gallen, who quietly made a run at the scoreless innings record.  His streak of 44 1/3 frames ended today against the Rockies.
Dayton Moore
9:30
Should I consider trading some of my near-ready positiion players to the Tigers for some of their near-ready pitching?  After Brady Singer, who we couldn't convince to throw a changeup until he was sent down to start the season, we don't have enough pitching.
Mark P
9:31
If prospect-for-prospect (or near-prospect for near-prospect) types of deals are rare, those types of trades between division rivals are unheard of
Expansion
9:32
Las Vegas, Portland, Nashville, San Antonio, who gets the next baseball teams if TB and OAK don’t relocate.
Mark P
9:33
I would lean towards Nashville, they already seem to have some ownership infrastructure in place.  Vegas is next on the list, since it's now the hot market for sports teams....according to rumors, the NBA is expanding to Las Vegas as well in the near future
Qualifying offer
9:34
Do Tyler Anderson or Andrew Heaney get QO this year?
Mark P
9:35
Heaney definitely no.  Anderson is also likely a no, though it's a closer decision. The Dodgers probably might not mind paying him $19MM or so for one year if they think he can replicate this year's numbers, and Anderson might be interested in such a big one-year payday.

On the other hand, Anderson might see this as an ideal chance to cash in for a multi-year deal, and in which case he'd be more apt to reject a QO....so the Dodgers could then issue one and recoup a draft pick
Bobby Grich
9:36
Will I be making a HOF acceptance speech next year?
Mark P
9:37
No, since Grich's era isn't under consideration by the veterans' committee under the 2024-25 offseason.
I do think Grich should get into the HOF, however

Do actually get to spend some money this off-season? If so, where am I spending more, bullpen or position players?
Mark P
9:40
The Cubs did spend last year, just on relatively shorter-term expenditures (except for Suzuki).  To this end, I think they'll target everyday players for bigger money, and not go overboard on paying for relief pitching
MVP
9:41
What kind of numbers would a two-way player need to produce to win an MVP over a player who  hits more an 61 HRs?
Mark P
9:42
I'd personally vote for Judge if I had an MVP vote, and the Yankees' recent fade has actually helped enhance Judge's case.  Judge has single-handedly propped up this team's offense for the last two months and kept the Yankees from a full-out collapse.  Between his unreal offensive numbers and his solid CF defense, that's enough for me to opt for Judge over another spectacular choice in Ohtani

Does David Bell lose his job at the end of the season
Mark P
9:44
He just signed a new extension last fall, but notably only a two-year deal that is up after the 2023 season.  It wasn't the biggest vote of confidence, but the Reds' struggles can hardly be blamed on Bell given how the front office went into rebuild/cost-cutting mode.
9:45
It could be that Cincinnati indeed lets Bell go and brings in a new manager for a total fresh start and a new era.

9:45
If Judge is solid in center why the Bader trade?
Mark P
9:46
Solid in center isn't as good as Bader's Gold Glove in center, plus playing Judge is right field is theoretically easier on him physically
Now, this being said, I would absolutely not have traded a solid starter for a center fielder with a major foot injury.
Tobias Funke
9:47
Could you see SD making Darvish available this winter to open up some payroll?
Mark P
9:48
It's possible, but the Padres already have a lot of pitching needs to address.  Musgrove is locked up long-term, but Darvish and Snell are only signed through 2023, Clevinger/Manaea are free agents, and Nick Martinez can opt out
