if one person asked the same thing repeatedly but worded it differently each time and changed the name so it seems like a lot of people are asking the question they could get their question answered?
Jorge

Your system seems to reward people who ask the same question repeatedly but word it differently and change their name.
Dave
9:37
If I asked the same question in different ways with different names a bunch of times you’re saying it probably would be answered?
John
9:37
Hypothetically if I asked the same question but reworded it and changed my name would it make it very likely for my question to be answered

Can a team talk to the agent/player before offering a QO? Like asking if they would accept or not?
Mark P
9:38
They absolutely can and do.  I would be surprised if any team was truly shocked by a player's QO decision.

Does 3 years/$45 million get a deal done with Martin Perez? And if so, all the "beat writers" are slotting in Gray at #3 and Perez at #4 for the Rangers in 2023. If that's the case, who do you predict will be #1 and #2? Thanks!
Mark P
9:42
I would imagine Perez would certainly take such a contract.  Before Daniels was fired, I half-expected the Rangers' offer to be "the Jon Daniels special" of a three-year deal in the $30MM range.

I'm on record as predicting Ross Stripling as ending up with the Rangers next season, if for no other reason than his Texas ties.  Beyond that, I expect the Rangers to be in on every available pitcher (basically like they were on shortstops last year), so it makes it a bit difficult to determine who their prime target might be

What was your personal opinion on the Tigers choice of team president?
Mark P
9:44
I like the choice, since it seemed like the Tigers needed a totally fresh voice in the organization.  Harris already has a strong resume in the sport, and it'll be interesting to see how he operates now that he's in full charge of his own front office.
Jazz Chisholm is hot

With all the emerging talent with Alcantara, Chisholm, Lopez, and even Jesus Sanchez, why do you think this Marlin's team hasn't been performing to that standard of talent should?
Mark P
9:46
Because their ability to find and develop hitting has been very poor.  Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald published a pretty damning breakdown of the long list of high draft picks and big trade acquisitions who have simply failed to pan out over the last 3-4 seasons.

Over the past 10 months the Seattle Mariners have handed out three nine-figure contracts. Are the Mariners taking on too much risk? Or are the M's spreading their risk over three long-term contracts?
Mark P
9:48
I like all of those deals (J-Rod, Ray, and now Luis Castillo) for Seattle, and the team has built in a lot of flexibility for themselves.  For instance, Rodriguez doesn't start making truly big money for a few years yet.

Are you a fan of locking up younger players early (Braves standout) or do you prefer a team wait it out? Risk v Reward
Mark P
9:50
Within reason, extending players early is a very wise strategy.  The Braves' moves have been particularly canny, since they've been able to lock up multiple guys (Acuna, Albies, Olson, Riley) who have already achieved quite a bit at the MLB level.
Mark P

Does it get tiring answering all these questions?
Mark P

I might stretch this chat to the top of the hour, since more people have entered the queue since the Yankees/Red Sox game went into a rain delay

Odds that Juan Soto goes back to the Nationals after 2024?
Mark P

Extremely slim to none

Chances rodon stays in sf?
Mark P
9:53
I'd say a decent chance.  The Giants have plenty of payroll space and presumably they like what they've seen in Rodon.  If they don't have the medical concerns that the White Sox apparently did, Rodon would make sense as a long-term add in SF

Why does LaRussa still get official credit for all his teams' wins and losses and not Cairo, when LaRussa isn't even at the ballpark in most cases?
Mark P
9:55
It's weird, I'm not really sure about how MLB's rules concerning "interim manager" wins work.  Like last year, DeMarlo Hale's wins as Cleveland's interim manager were credited to Terry Francona....but if Francona hadn't returned as manager this year, Hale would've then been retroactively credited with those victories.

Seems like starting pitchers tend to have more breakout games than position players. For example, starters will struggle long term and then have one or to dominant 6 inning or so starts with 7+ strikeouts. Do you think this makes it hard to trust and analyze starting pitching talent?
Mark P
9:58
Absolutely.  Many pitchers have tantalized and frustrated teams and fans over the years by looking like Cy Young for one start, and then struggling for the next three starts.  It's like the old baseball joke about how nobody was responsible for more bad pitching than Sandy Koufax --- how many teams stuck with mediocre pitchers with good stuff, under the logic of "well, it eventually clicked for Koufax, so..."

Are the Twins trending towards a rebuild? Farm system doesn't seem promising, many pitching holes to fill, lineup isn't a strong as it was last year, etc.
Mark P
10:00
My guess is no, because the Central still doesn't look overly strong in 2023, and the Twins have to be thinking that they'd be right in the mix if it wasn't for a mountain of injuries.

Not to say that the Twins won't have a lot of work ahead of them this winter, but I doubt a teardown is in the cards
Trout
10:00
If a new Angels owner wants to clean house, would teams be willing to take on Trout’s contract with his injury history
Mark P
10:01
Yep.  Obviously some teams aren't willing to stretch payroll for a contract like Trout's, but for the bigger spenders, they would absolutely still have interest.  The injuries are a concern.....but, it's Mike Trout.

A’s keeping Langeliers or Murphy? Have Soderstrom in AAA too
Mark P
10:03
My assumption is that they'd keep Langeliers, keep Soderstrom but not necessarily as a full-time catcher, and shop Murphy

We all know you listen to music during these chats because you always say that your walk up song is whatever you are listening to. What music do you like?
Mark P
10:05
Rock music in general, but as you can tell from the varied answers I've given to the walk-up music question over the years, I like a wide range of stuff

Tonight's walk-up song, btw, is "Weapon Of Choice" by Fatboy Slim

Such a disappointing year for the White Sox, tons of positional talent and few good SP's; what is ailing this team?
Mark P
10:07
Injuries were a legitimate factor, given the sheer volume of good players who missed significant time.  The White Sox basically never had their ideal lineup all together all at once.

But overall, even beyond the health issues, too many players had disappointing seasons.  Areas that were supposed to be big strengths (like the costly bullpen) ended up being okay.
"only" okay, that is

I haven't, but from social media alone, their games look like an absolute blast
