Rotation and bullpen help seems like musts
Clever name here

Will the postseason have fixed brackets, or will it be reseeded after the first round?
Mark P
9:00
Fixed brackets.  So the Astros and Dodgers will play the winners of the wild card series, while the Yankees/NL East champs will play the winners of the series between the Guardians/Cardinals against the sixth seed

Will the PED suspension keep Tatis out of the Hall of Fame?
Mark P
9:01
Tatis has played 273 games.  Way too early to even speculate about a possible HOF case.
Guards fan.
9:02
90 wins with the youngest team in baseball and a low payroll should make Tito Francona American League Manager of the year. Correct?
Mark P
9:02
Francona has done a wonderful job and I wouldn't be upset if he won, but I'd still lean towards Brandon Hyde for getting the woeful Orioles to a winning record

Who will the Sox target this off-season? No way they can run the same flawed roster back again next year without some sort of significant changes (significant meaning at least one guy in the starting lineup who isn't currently on the team or minors)
Mark P
9:06
I think they'll be forced to make notable changes, since more or less running it back isn't the answer.  Unfortunately, they have a good chunk of money tied up in players coming off unproductive seasons, and I'm assuming Abreu (who did have a good year) will be re-signed, adding more dollars to the payroll.

If I'm the White Sox, I'm looking into some so-called bad contract swaps, seeing what you can get for Kelly, Pollock, or even Moncada.  Bringing in help for 2B/3B would then be a priority
9:07
It could be argued that a managerial change will go a long way in improving the club, but there are enough roster deficiencies that not everything should be blamed on La Russa

Should a non contender pursue Bellinger if he’s non tendered or is he fool’s gold at this point?
Mark P
9:08
I would think Bellinger will draw plenty of interest as a free agent, to see if a change of scenery can help wake up his bat.  At worst, he at least helps a team in need of CF defense
Falvey

Should I be worried about my job
Mark P
9:09
Nope, the Twins already announced he's returning

Ohtani at Fenway
9:11
I know about the $30m, but even the Sox traded Mookie within a couple months of his big $.  Bloom has built the farm up nicely.  Is this the plan to be “much better” in 2023?
Mark P
9:12
Angels fans probably won't like the limbo I'm predicting for their team, but while I doubt Moreno is going to okay any big spending, I also don't see him deciding to rebuild.  It was only a couple of months ago that Moreno was refusing to get the front office even consider Ohtani trades, so I doubt he'd suddenly be cool with dealing him in the offseason

Snell for Hoskins ?
Mark P
9:16
Interesting idea, and I love any kind of old-school, one-for-one swap.  I tend to think it won't happen, however, as San Diego has enough other pitchers potentially leaving in free agency that they won't move Snell until they know what other arms are staying (or if other arms are acquired)

With the season he's had, would the Twins consider trading Arraez and if they did what could he get on the market.
Mark P
9:18
Arreaz might be just about the last guy the Twins would trade.  He'd get a lot back in a return, but he's so valuable that I can't see Minnesota moving him

How often do you get “The Room” puns on these chats lol. I feel like I see them alot. Did you see the movie before doing these chats?
Mark P
9:19
Pretty much every single chat has an "oh hi, Mark" joke, which is kind of incredible given that it's still basically a cult movie (The Disaster Artist notwithstanding)

I actually have seen 'The Room,' and if you ever get a chance to attend a theatre screening, do so.  It's a blast.

I like Bellinger or even Gallo to the Cardinals as a Dickerson replacement on a Dickersonian deal.  Any thoughts?
Mark P
9:21
Those two might want more regular playing time than the Cardinals might be able to offer, but that said, they also might not exactly have a ton of options.  Playing for a contender in STL would still be attractive

All the feels today. Pretty unique moment.

9:22
The reference is to Molina, Pujols, and Wainwright all being removed from the game at the same time, so they could all bask in the ovation from the St. Louis fans.

Also, it shouldn't be overlooked that Pujols is now tied for second on the all-time RBI list, which is a pretty notable achievement that seemingly got completely overlooked in the quest for 700

9:23
What starting pitchers do you think the Cubs will target in the offseason?
Mark P
9:24
This will be an interesting area for Chicago, since as we saw from the Stroman deal, the Cubs are willing to spend a bit more and be more open to longer-term (sort of) pacts for pitching.  While this doesn't mean they'll be shopping at the very top of the market, I can see the Cubs maybe pursuing another Stroman-esque contract with opt-outs with another starter.

Mariners back themselves into a corner by saying that 'JP is their SS' last offseason? 2b FA crop looks pretty thin and they need to add a bat somewhere....
Mark P
9:27
Our own Darragh McDonald made this point back in August, arguing that moving Crawford to second base would make a lot of sense

Albies, Ozuna, Rosario for ohtani...braves so no unless angels add some prospects right?
Mark P
9:30
Seriously?  Even given how good Albies' deal is, I think the Braves take this offer in a heartbeat.  Unloading the Ozuna/Rosario contracts, adding Ohtani, and perhaps just replacing Albies with Grissom.....that's all nothing but wins for the Braves.

Again, I highly doubt Ohtani is being moved at all, but if he is, it'll for a trade package miles better than this.  The Angels absolutely won't be taking on any underwater contracts.

Given DeGrom’s contract/health and Scherzer’s age/health, do the Mets only have a  realistic 1 year window?
Mark P
9:32
Since ownership is willing to spend big, the Mets should be in perpetual contention, though a case can be made that this presents their best 'window' to win an actual championship.  The rotation will need to be rebuilt this winter, given JDG and the other free agents
