Are we mailing it in for a slightly easier path vs Cleveland and NY if we make it through or should I be worried we'll be bounced in the first round. Offense looks terrible.

Given the randomness of baseball matchups, I highly doubt the Rays are trying to line up to face a specific opponent.  They're not exactly going into the playoffs on a high note, but I would never rule them out.  As a Jays fan, I absolutely want no part of facing Tampa in the first round.

When Dave Dombrowski asks you what he should prioritize in the offseason, what advice will you give him....?

Pitching and defense

What does it take to get Burnes from MIL?
Mark P
10:18
For two full seasons of Burnes, the Brewers will want more than the M's gave up for Castillo, or what the Blue Jays gave up for Jose Berrios.

In a Dodgers trade, Milwaukee's ask starts with Diego Cartaya and Bobby Miller, and probably at least one other top-tier prospect who is more MLB-ready (like a Pepiot).  Toss in a couple more lower-level prospects as well.
If this sounds like a lot, well, it is.  I'm not saying the Dodgers would do this by any means, but that's an idea of the Brewers would want for Burnes at this time

Will the A’s sign ANYONE????
Mark P
10:19
Sure, a few veterans on lower-cost one-year deals.

Chance that Devers is available in trade this winter?
Mark P
10:22
If the Red Sox feel there's no way they'll be able to come to terms on an extension, it's possible...we saw them move Betts under similar circumstances, though that deal was also about unloading Price's contract and getting under the tax threshold.

If Bogaerts leaves in free agency, however, I don't really see Boston also trading Devers unless they decide to use 2023 as a rebuild/reload year for 2024.

Does the price at which LAA signed Showtime in his ARB3 indicate where they're leaning on their willingness to break the bank completely open to a long term extension? I was pretty shocked at the $30m figure. For arb figures, don't they factor in previous years' numbers?
Mark P
10:25
Previous years are a factor, but for a player coming off arguably the two most extraordinary years in MLB history, it's hard to gauge exactly what Ohtani "would" have made in front of an arbiter.  Don't forget, he also had the great rookie season and was still a good hitter in 2019 even though he didn't pitch

It’s wild card 1 against wild card 2 and wild card 3 against the lowest seeded division winner?
Mark P

Correct

Brandon Marsh on the Phillies has been fantastic! One of the best deadline deals? Especially considering what it does for the defense long term?
Mark P
10:28
Even if Marsh was only a 90 OPS+/wRC+ type of player, it still might have been worth it for defense alone.  But if he can also keep swinging the bat at an above-average rate, that swap might end up being one of the Phillies' best moves in a while

Do you see any similarities between the 2021 Tigers and this year’s Orioles? I’m hearing a lot of the same type of expectations for the O’s in 2023 as I was hearing about my Tigers in 2022. Thanks for all you do!

Baltimore winning 82 (and counting) games in the AL East is a higher level of achievement than the Tigers winning 77 games in a weaker AL Central in 2021.  And this is coming from someone who thought Detroit had indeed turned a corner last season.

As we've already seen with their midseason deals, the Orioles front office isn't going overboard on this team just yet, since they're still waiting on so much more young talent.  I'd be surprised if they made the "all-in" types of moves that the Tigers did in signing E-Rod and Baez, but the O's do have the payroll space to make maybe one big acquisition if they chose

Is the Mets offense in this chat? They seem to have missed the trip to Atlanta.

Man, tough times for the Mets.  The only thing they absolutely couldn't do in this series was get swept, but....

What does Bryce Harper need to do to make the HoF? Hit 500 homers? Just stay healthy and be him for another 5-6 years? Or he not making it in? (My opinion is he isn’t a HoFer yet)
Mark P
10:33
If Harper has five more healthy seasons with his 2022 level of production (148 OPS+), he'll certainly have built a HOF-level resume.

That's over two hours now, so it's time to wrap things up.  Thanks for all the questions!
