At this point, I'd lean towards Swanson staying in Atlanta.  Grissom also stays, since the Braves probably want depth in the wake of Albies missing so much of the season.  If Albies returns in his old form, Grissom can then be a super-sub, or maybe an option in left field.

With 100 win teams going out quickly, any chance the playoff format gets tweaked?
Mark P
8:37
This is hardly the first year the top seeds have been upset early.

LaStella for Bumgarner and Alek Thomas? Giants eat the difference.
Mark P
8:38
The D'Backs aren't moving a highly-touted prospect like Thomas just for salary relief
Especially not to a division rival
Cleveland Guardians
8:40
What will our biggest off-season move be?
Mark P
8:41
Broadly speaking, adding some power to the lineup.  The Guardians have a great approach to hitting, except they're just lacking in the homer department.  Getting one or two more bats who can drive the ball out of the park could elevate the lineup into something special.
Guards
8:42
Do you see the Guardians spending the winter trying to lock up some of their young stars like Gimenez and McKenzie?
Mark P
8:42
Very likely
Joe
8:43
How much would Chad Pinder cost this offseason and is he too expensive for the Reds? He seems like a rebound in GABP and trade at the deadline kinda guy.
Mark P
8:43
Pinder shouldn't come with a big price tag, so a cost-conscious team like the Reds should be able to afford him
Cody
8:44
Which scenario seems likelier: Cardinals trade for Jansen/Murphy at catcher or they upgrade at SS with one of the big SS free agents?
Mark P
8:45
A trade.  The Cardinals haven't traditionally pursued the route of big signings, as they tend to save their most aggressive moves (i.e. Goldschmidt, Arenado) for the trade market
Jerry Reinsdorf
8:48
Who should I hire as manager?
Mark P
8:49
Again, I'm open to offers.  Jerry's people can contact my people and we can arrange a meeting.
Jose Abreu
8:49
Is Bruce Levine, right? Am I going to the Cubs?
Mark P
8:50
Bruce Levine reported that the Cubs had interest in Abreu, not that it was a sure thing by any means.  And it isn't surprising that a team with a need at 1B had an interest in one of the top first base free agents available.
Brennen Davis
8:50
If he has a slow start will he be labeled a bust ?
Mark P
8:51
Big chance here for Davis to replace Jo Adell as the Weekend Chat's trade candidate du jour.

Honestly as a Brewer fan, before they trade anyone, I’d like to see a half season under new leadership. New manager/new coaches.
Mark P
8:53
The Brewers already changed hitting coaches last winter, but it wouldn't be a shock if they made more changes.  As for Counsell, Milwaukee has been a pretty consistent solid team since he became manager, and I think he'd be out for work for about five seconds if the Brewers actually fired him

What is the situation with Robert Suarez's contract? He looks worth more than $5m...
Mark P
8:56
Suarez holds a $5MM player option for 2023, which is really a $4MM decision since there's a $1MM buyout attached.  Right now it looks like a very safe bet that Suarez will decline his option and test the open market, unless San Diego works out an extension first to get him to stay put
Brooklyn
8:56
Do Dodgers keep doing what they’ve been doing or shake things up in the offseason?
Mark P
8:57
They have enough notable free agents that some degree of shakeup might be inevitable, roster-wise.  In the bigger picture, it's hard to argue with the Dodgers' strategy, since they win 100 games every year and are less than two seasons removed from a World Series title.
Orioles
8:58
I have a hard time seeing the Orioles signing mid tier free agent pitching this offseason because of deals like Ubaldo and Cobb. What kind of pitching could I expect to see the O's in on from trade market?
Mark P
8:59
Peter Angelos is no longer overseeing the team's baseball operations, so the club's stance on multi-year deals for pitchers has quite possibly changed.  This isn't to say that Baltimore will start throwing millions at pitchers who are better fits at the back of the rotation, but the O's have enough young talent to make some very nice offers for controllable, frontline starters that might be available

Is there anyone who realistically beats the Astros
Mark P

After seeing all the upsets in the playoffs thus far, nobody should be surprised if Houston also falls short

Too soon to try and pry Franco away from the Ray's? Cards have a lot of prospects and young MLB players...
Mark P
9:03
Ha, not even the Rays are going to flip Franco this early.  He is the special player that they're keeping for the long haul.

Who will Murphy be catching for in April?
Marky Mark
9:05
So, who wins the Sean Murphy sweepstakes and how much of a return do the A's get?
Mark P
9:05
Speaking of the Rays, Murphy makes a lot of sense for them, plus they have a history of trading with the A's
9:06
That said, it's hard to handicap the market since there are at least 15 teams who'd be good fits for Murphy
Tim

Any chance the Tigers would sign a guy like Trea Turner?
Mark P
9:07
Pretty unlikely.
