M's consider bringing back Adam Frazier?
Mark P
9:07
I'm sure they'll give it some thought, but 2B/SS seems like an obvious route for the Mariners to add some more offense.  Whether that's adding a second baseman or moving Crawford to 2B and then adding a shortstop remains to be seen

9:08
Hey Mark, thanks for the chat. You now own the Mets. What are your moves this offseason
Mark P
9:10
Wait, I do??  Well, my first move is probably to immediately sell them, and walk away with $4 billion

But in baseball terms, I retain Carrasco, and prioritize re-signing Diaz and deGrom.  Losing Nimmo is a question mark, but with his injury history, he's a risk on a long-term deal.  Then, the move is to shift Marte to CF, and add a defense-minded fourth outfielder for backup purposes.

IF, and I know it's a big if, the Nats have a new owner in place by the start of free agency and they are willing to spend (which would probably be the assumption with new ownership), could you see the Nats as major players in FA? They have a ton of money available and could easily afford Rodon, Bogaerts(for 3B), and another high valued player. Thoughts?
Mark P
9:12
There's no way the Nationals will have a new owner lined up within three weeks, since even league approval for a new owner will take a while.

Even if a new owner takes over by, say, February, the Nationals aren't going to quickly toss around a bunch of money for a quick reload.  2023 will be about seeing what they have in their young players, and if some progress is made, they *might* be more aggressive heading into 2024.  There's also a possibility that they might hold off on any true big moves until Strasburg and Corbin are off the books

Do you think the todays game committee votes the steroid guys into the HOF?  How about Fred Mcgriff?
Mark P
9:14
That next "today's game" ballot is going to be so stacked with qualified candidates that it's possible nobody gets in, based on pure voting gridlock.
Jacob DeGrom
9:15
Any chance I sign w/ the team I rooted for growing up: the Braves?
Mark P
9:15
If deGrom really is looking to play closer to his home in Florida, then the Braves are the most realistic option, as the Marlins and Rays aren't meeting his price tag

9:16
Keep in mind, however, that deGrom isn't going to limit his market so severely by geography.  A lot of teams play Spring Training ball in Florida, naturally, so he might lean towards any of the Grapefruit League crew to at least extend his time in Florida

Should the Cubs give Mervis the 1st base job next year?
Mark P
9:19
Mervis had a fantastic season in the minors, but as cool as his story is, that's asking a lot to give an everyday role to a rookie.  Not everyone is a Julio Rodriguez or a Steven Kwan
Mervis will surely be a part of Chicago's 2023 plans, but maybe as part of a platoon, until he shows he is ready for full-time work

Think haniger gets the qualifying offer, or do the mariners let him walk?
Mark P
9:22
Haniger is maybe the most interesting QO candidate on a market that has mostly clear-cut yes or no QO case.  I can see him perhaps taking the offer, betting on himself to stay healthy and have a better platform year in 2023.  If you're Seattle and you need a bat anyway, retaining Haniger even for $19.65MM is pricey, but not a bad option

Time for the Reds to end the Nick Senzel era? Huge disappointment.
Mark P
9:24
Senzel is still under arb control for three more seasons, and since the Reds are rebuilding, they might as well just keep him around to see if he is a late bloomer.

But, after so many injuries and so little production to date, it unfortunately seem like the ship has sailed on him being any kind a star.  It would count as a win at this point is Senzel is able to stay on the field long enough just to have a regular career.

White sox fire sale this offseason?
Mark P
9:26
Unlikely.  They've invested a lot in the roster and there's still a lot of talent there, so they aren't going to suddenly rebuild after one disappointing season.

Frazier is all but gone from Seattle; right? I think he’ll be a popular rebound candidate but what kind of hard market will he be facing?
Mark P
9:28
It's safe to say that when it comes to staying with the M's, Frazier has left the building.

....couldn't help it, sorry.

He'll get looks from teams on one-year contracts, maybe similar to what Cesar Hernandez got last year.  Contenders might see him as bench depth, or a non-contender might see him as a useful placeholder.

Sandy Alomar going to get a managerial position this off-season?
Mark P
9:30
Alomar has been a managerial candidate for so long that it seems like it might not happen.  Or, maybe there's a chance he'll just take over in Cleveland once Francona retires.

While I posted respectable numbers, I still feel disappointed this season.
Mark P
9:32
A 132 wRC+ is more than respectable, and if this ends up being Guerrero's minimum kind of year, that's still pretty good.

However, teams were able to pitch Guerrero in a way that got him hitting a lot more grounders in 2022, which cut into his power numbers and overall production.  Vlad will need to make that adjustment to return to his MVP candidate self next year
Arte Moreno
9:33
My GM said I was still committed to putting a winner on the field despite my intention to sell. Is he telling the truth or should angels fans expect another disappointing season.
Mark P
9:33
I don't anyone has ever doubted that Moreno has been trying to win, it's just that his methods and strategies have missed the mark.
Kirk Cousins
9:34
are the Twins confident to field Royce Lewis as their starting shortstop next season?
Mark P
9:35
No, since he'll be out until probably the All-Star break recovering from his ACL surgery.  After two torn ACLs in as many years, it's anyone's guess if Lewis can return in good form.

Does Max Fried get an extension?
Mark P
9:38
I'd lean toward yes, since the Braves are extending anyone with a pulse.  It was an interesting subplot that the Braves were locking up only position players rather than pitchers, but after they extended Strider, keeping Fried seems like a greater possibility.

Takes two to tango, however, and since Fried is a FA after 2024, he might want to test the market since he's so close.

How does co-mvp work? It's happened before.

Do you think Cherington was telling the truth about getting a pitcher on a multi-year deal? And if so, who do you think it will be?
Mark P
9:42
I'm sure the Bucs are open to such a deal, if the price is right on a pitcher they particularly like (and if said pitcher is open to going to Pittsburgh).  But given their general signing strategy even before Cherington became GM, I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm here to advocate for a Nelson Cruz reunion with the Rangers. He'd be a nice middle of the order thumper for them at DH.
Mark P
9:43
It is possible Cruz rebounds in the wake of his eye surgery, but he has been struggling at the plate basically since the moment he was dealt from Minnesota.  If I'm a Texas team looking for an offensive upgrade, I'm first checking the market for younger hitters with more upside.
