What do you think about an Austin Hays for Andres Gimenez trade and putting Hays in the Guardians' CF?
Mark P
9:45
Gimenez seems closer to untouchable at this point.  Gimenez was a way better hitter than Hays this season, and Hays has been pretty average overall at the plate over the last three years.
9:46
Not to say that the Guards might not have interest in Hays, but it certainly won't be for Gimenez

AJ Preller’s job security is looking A-OK, right?

Odds of the Dodgers moving on from Roberts after this debacle?  Odds of the Blue Jays picking him (or another playoff tested manager) up instead of going with Schneider after his 1st round meltdown?
Mark P
9:49
This one comment encapsulates both sides of several other comments in the queue tonight.  For every "the Dodgers should fire Roberts, he can't win the postseason," there's another comment asking "hey, should the Jays/Marlins/White Sox/Rangers/Royals hire Dave Roberts as manager, he's a proven winner!"

If you had to have one, who would you pick?

The Dodgers are a team that is built with depth to win in the regular season, but they simply don't compete well in post season because they are not built with dominant starting pitching. Their pitching is great over the long run in a season, but don't measure up to guys like DeGrom. Not to mention, even if they did measure up....the front office and Roberts are flawed in their post season strategy of being insistent on pulling the SP before the 3rd time through the lineup simply because statistical trends say that they should. You CAN'T win in the post season by managing that way. It's OVER-MANAGING and is INFURIATING for all of us!!!! Stop the insanity and let the pitchers pitch!!!
Mark P
9:52
Technically, they did win with this strategy in 2020.

But, in general, these are valid complaints.  For all of the Dodgers' depth, they're always going into the playoffs seemingly with one or two injured pitchers, leaving them unable to really adjust.  It would be one thing if LA had a lockdown bullpen ready to take the baton from the starters, but their relief corps has been consistently good but not great.

Prediction on who the Rangers hire for manager? I think if Bochy wants the job it’s his, if not I’ll say Derosa.
Mark P
9:53
If not Bochy, I suspect Texas goes for another experienced manager.  Their pattern of hiring first-time skippers hasn't yielded many results.

Any chance the Rangers Sign Brandon Drury to play 1B next year. Move Lowe to DH?
Mark P
9:55
A multi-positional player like Drury makes a lot of sense, because Lowe's glovework has been subpar but you might not want to make him a DH type this relatively early in his career.

QOs offered by the Red Sox to Eovadi and JDM?  Both have to accept? no?
Mark P
9:57
I don't think JDM is getting the offer, since the Sox won't want the risk of him accepting.  Eovaldi is a decent QO candidate, and if he did accept, the Sox might not mind that scenario since it patches one of several holes in their rotation.

The other factor for Boston is that since they exceeded the luxury tax, they'll get a lesser draft pick return for any QO free agents who sign elsewhere.  So that'll also weigh into their decision-making about issuing a QO to Eovaldi.

do you have any idea why home team fans boo visiting pitcher pick off attempt?
Mark P
9:59
Ha, this has been a running joke with some colleagues of mine for a while.  Few things generate as much virulent booing as a pickoff attempt against a home baserunner.

Murphy for Arozarena, both 1st yr arb eligible, fills need for each team?
Mark P
10:03
This one is interesting, but I suspect Oakland says no. Arozarena is already projected to earn $4MM in arb salary next year, and he is likely to be a Super Two player and have an extra season of arbitration eligibility.  So the A's might prefer just straight prospects, who have more control and are less expensive (as $4MM+ is "expensive" by A's standards)
