Please tell me the A’s are considering Shelby Miller. Perfect fit at closer for them
Mark P

Seems like Miller is getting a lot of interest, and he would indeed seem be the kind of player the A's might target

Wouldn’t it make more sense for cleveland to extend Rosario rather than dangle him in a trade? Hits a ton and an extension shouldn’t break the bank.
Mark P
9:33
The Guardians have so many middle infield prospects that Rosario seems a little superfluous....especially when Gimenez might be the better extension candidate, if the Guards did want to lock someone up
Rays
9:34
I really find it hard to believe that the Rays make a big trade for someone like Murphy or sign someone like Abreu (which would be big for them). It just seems like it'll be another underwhelming off-season. Can you give me some hope and tell me why I'm wrong?
Mark P
9:35
In fairness, a lot of "underwhelming" Rays trades end up being great for the team.  If Tampa has a relatively quiet winter, that obviously doesn't mean they aren't still improving the team

Murphy to Tampa for Wilcox, Mead, and Williams. Who says no?
Mark P
9:37
That trade would get Oakland's attention.  I could potentially see this as something both sides would be open to, but Tampa would surely prefer to replace Mead or Williams with a slightly lesser prospect

Get in my Delorean, we’re going to December 2019. You’re the Dodgers GM, what kind of trade package can you get for Cody Bellinger?
Mark P
9:39
An absolute haul.  Certainly more than the Dodgers gave up to get Betts.

btw, doesn't real life make time-travel scenarios less fun?  I read "go back to December 2019," and my immediate thought is "forget trading Bellinger, tell someone about Covid-19!"

Still leaning towards Swanson

Why did the Red Sox sign story if they’re pretty clearly heading into a rebuild?
Mark P
9:41
The Red Sox have enough resources that they shouldn't ever have to truly "rebuild."

Also, don't forget, the 2021 Red Sox were two wins away from a World Series berth.  Story looked like a potential finishing touch on a championship team.

People say I'd need to be traded to leave Milwaukee. This seem likely? Who was the last person in front office to be traded.
Mark P

Off the top of my head, Theo Epstein was "dealt" from the Red Sox to Chicago

Plesac and Civale for Santander?  Who says no.

Orioles say no.  They probably already feel like they have a few Plesac/Civale-level guys in the rotation

Hmm my question didn't go through the first time. Anyways let's try again. What's the chance of Bellinger staying in the NL west and signing a 1 year deal with the Rockies? MVP Kris Bryant, Randal Grichuck and Yonathan Daza sharing time in right field, Charlie Blackmon DH, and Bellinger with a bounceback year starting in centerfield playing in a park he had tons of success in. Has a good ring to it.
Mark P
9:44
If the Rockies offered enough money, sure.  Plus, Bryant is also a Boras client, so the agent certainly has some relationship with the Colorado front office.

Did the Blue Jays jump the gun with the Teoscar trade? There aren't a ton of CF options and they're running the risk of not having a chair when the music stops.
Mark P
9:45
Making the deal in mid-November leaves plenty of time for a center fielder to be found.  Plus, Springer is still technically "the center fielder," even if it's probably more viable that someone else plays the position as early as this season

What's up with JJ Picollo being so non-transactional so far this off-season?  NOT the way fans hoped things would go.

Would JD Martinez be a good fit for the Cardinals as a DH?
Mark P
9:48
In general, the Cards might want a player with more defensive flexibility.  Pujols was basically DH-only, but also a special case because he's Albert Pujols.

Turkey all the way.  Not a fan of ham.

How many more chances/years do I have to prove myself in Cincinnati? Would a change of scenery help me?
Mark P

Senzel's inability to stay healthy is his biggest issue, not playing for the Reds.

Mark: Good Evening. So far so good with the Marlins early non player moves. Do you see Ng being bolder on player acquisitions?
Mark P
9:54
This will be Ng's first offseason in full command of Miami's front office, without Jeter there calling the shots.  It'll be interesting to see how she proceeds, yet "bolder" might not necessarily be the direction....we still don't know how much ownership is ready to spend, or how much of a push there is to contend

When do you see the big time free agents signing? In a flurry before the end of the year, or will we all be waiting into February?
Mark P
9:56
We might be something notable as early as Monday, once we get some distance from Thanksgiving.  It'll be interesting to see how this first "normal" offseason in a while proceeds, but I do think it'll generally be a bit steadier than in the couple of pre-COVID, pre-lockout years

Do Phillies go out and get an OF with the Harper news, or does nothing change from their offseason pursuits? (SS, SP, etc.)
Mark P
9:58
Sosa has played a bit of outfield, so the Phils could use a mix of Sosa/Vierling/Guthrie as cover until Harper is ready.  Castellanos or Schwarber would rotate between the DH spot and one corner OF spot, in that scenario...Marsh plays center field.

Phils seem likely to target an outfielder on a minor league deal, for extra depth.  Maybe a Kevin Pillar type.
