Who's your favorite ballplayer, past or present, named Mark?
Mark P
9:59
Look, I'm not here to talk about the past
(Jokes aside....Mark Buehrle)

how Come we aren’t hearing any rumours about Michael Brantley and the Jays. Wouldn’t he be a natural fit to pair with Gurriel in left. Give Springer a rest in right and DH when Kirk/Springer/Valdy aren’t. Still leaves a spot open in centre for another left handed bat to be added.
Mark P

Brantley makes some sense for the Jays, especially since they were seemingly on the verge of signing him two years ago.  However, the weird way that situation ended might have led to some hard feelings towards Brantley in the front office, who knows.

Also, adding another player who might need a lot of DH time isn't ideal for the Jays.

Would the Brewers consider trading Burnes or Woodruff in division?
Mark P
10:02
If someone made an absurd offer, sure.  But more often than now, teams prefer to trade players (especially stars) outside the division

Next year when Othani hits the FA market, what type of contract will it take to sign him?  10 years $500MM?
Mark P
10:04
Maybe not quite that high, but if Ohtani has another excellent two-way season.....$500MM might not be very far-fetched.  He's such a unique case that it's hard to predict any real numbers apart from "a ton" and "something rivaling the biggest contracts in MLB history"
Philly Phanatic
10:05
Does Marchan have value as a trade chip being a young catching prospect blocked by Realmuto? What will the Phillies do with Hoskins?
Mark P
10:06
Marchan doesn't have a ton of trade value, and while the Phillies might deal him if they feel they have enough depth at the position, it won't be for a huge return
Pick me!!! Pick me!!!

Do Dodgers add a rotation arm?
Mark P
10:08
Absolutely
Park M
10:10
Am I crazy for wanting the Yankees to keep Gleyber?
Mark P
10:10
Nope.  It's not like he's a bad player, and he brings plenty of pop to the 2B spot

Bernie Brewer > Phillie Phanatic
Mark P
10:11
A fair take!  Bernie is also great
Kershaw
10:11
couldn’t have Kershaw gotten more money for 1 year? Maybe 30M given what degrom and verlander are asking for…
Mark P
10:12
While deGrom and Verlander have certainly had recent injury issues, Kershaw's issues seem a little more chronic.  To that extent, a full season might not be possible for him any more, so Kershaw seems like he's giving the Dodgers a break by essentially being paid for a "partial" season

Is this the offseason for the Cubs to make big moves or are there reasons next offseason makes more sense?
Mark P
10:14
I don't see why Chicago couldn't "go for it" this winter, to some extent.  Not a total spending spree, but landing at least one pricey, long-term star (as sort of a Jon Lester-esque "we're back" move), and then some auxiliary moves to build out some needed depth
The NL Central is a winnable division

Do the Giants take on Yelich’s contract to get Burnes?
Mark P
10:15
Probably not.  Why take the risk of absorbing such a big contract for two years of Burnes, when you could just acquire another ace for money (or a more palatable trade package)?

Was the Hader trade the beginning of a full scale sell off for the Brewers?  Burns and Woody are provably too expensive to sign after arbitration. Are they next to go?
Mark P
10:17
I doubt the Brewers go into full sell mode.  Ideally, their plan would be to adopt the Guardians' model of trading higher-priced guys for nice trade returns, and reloading that way.

However, having Woodruff, Burnes, and Adames all free agents at the same time (after 2024) kind of forces a decision sooner rather than later, whereas Cleveland has been able to somewhat space out when their biggest stars have been hitting the open market

MLBTR doesn’t give you the day off? There wasn’t a lot of news today we would’ve missed, but thank you for your service anyway 🍻
Mark P

Haha, well, it may not be surprising that the two Canadians (Darragh and I) on the staff got the shifts on American Thanksgiving.

Twins are entirely RHP in their rotation. There were trade-deadline rumblings that Marlins were open to moving Trevor Rogers. Does Kepler+Simeon Woods Richardson+prospect get it done? Would including Austin Martin help at all?
Mark P
10:20
The Twins aren't giving up nearly that much for a pitcher coming off Rogers' tough season.  Not to say that Minnesota might be open to seeing if Rogers is a bounce-back or change-of-scenery guy, but not at that price

What happens when a question is submitted for moderation? Does a human review it?
Mark P
10:22
It used to be humans, but Tim Dierkes just bought this new HAL-9000 program for reviewing chat questions.  Nothing can possibly go wrong!

Of the AZ LH outfield glut, what percentage do you feel Hazen is to deal one? Who would be your best guess and what's the return?
Mark P
10:24
Let me hope into the Spruce Moose to answer this question.  If I had to guess, it'll be McCarthy or Thomas as the outfielder dealt, and I do think Arizona will move someone.  Moving either OF in a straight one-for-one trade gets the D'Backs another everyday-type player, if not  a star.

I’m assuming none of the top free agents would want to go to the tigers, right?
Mark P
10:25
If the Tigers offered enough money, there'd be plenty of interest

10:25
How many trade proposals do you get where someone's favorite team is trading it's unwanted parts for a clear upgrade?
Mark P
10:25
Oh, quite a few

10:26
Who are the biggest draft busts(disappointment) in last 5 years?
Mark P
10:27
Five years is a pretty short window.  For players drafted in 2017, some have barely played in the majors yet, plus this class had their development interrupted or put on hold entirely by the canceled 2020 minors season.
