Does Milwaukee have any plans to add some arms to the pen? They released half their relievers after the season so they must intend on adding someone, right?
Mark P
8:34
Guerra and Payamps have been added, so the Brewers haven't exactly ignored the pen.  More arms will surely be added, but maybe lower-level signings/trades or minor league signings, rather than big-ticket moves.

The Brewers have been pretty good at building their bullpens with unheralded additions, so no reason to fret just yet

Sure would like to see Eduardo Escobar back with the Brewers.  What would the Brewers have to give up in a trade?
Mark P
8:37
I actually don't think the Mets will trade Escobar, as they'll just hang onto him as depth.  If you think having a player like Escobar as a backup infielder is a real luxury, well, welcome to the Mets

What could the Twins possibly want to “look into” of Correa’s medical records that they didn’t know a year ago?
Mark P
8:38
If you hear another team is backing out of a $350MM deal due to a medical concern, wouldn't you want another look at the records or want more details before offering $285MM+?

Can you help explain the disaster of an offseason I’ve had?
Mark P
8:39
It doesn't seem like the Marlins have much money to spend, or the money they have available isn't all that attractive to a player (say, Justin Turner) who can find comparable dollars on a team in better position to be competitive in 2023
8:40
That said, my earlier comment about the trade market opening up will probably help the Marlins' next moves.  Teams that missed out on free agent pitching are now apt to discuss trading for one of Miami's young arms

Do the Giants have anything to say about how Boras treated them after this latest revelation coming out of the Mets FO regarding the Correa deal?
Mark P
8:41
It may be a while (if ever) before we learn the full story of what exactly happened here.  But, given that the Giants signed another Boras client in Michael Conforto just the day after Correa agreed with the Mets, feelings can't be too harsh

Aloha! Out here in the SF Bay Area, the Giants were dumped on by not only the national sports media but local as well in regard to Correa. The Giants said they couldn't respond at the time due to confidentiality reasons. Boras I felt didn't allow time to deal with the medical concerns that came up on Monday's physical, knowing the presser was the following day. I'm sure no one will apologize how they treated the Giants or the wild stories told. If this Mets deal falls apart, should the Giants try again but for a 3-5yr deal? Or that ship has sailed? Mahalo and Mele Kalikimaka Merry Christmas!
Mark P
8:44
I find it very unlikely that Correa would return to the Giants, given how this situation all played out.  If the Mets deal in its current form did fall through, I do think Correa would still end up in Queens (like I noted earlier) since now there's an increased amount of pressure on both sides.
8:45
I will say, however, that the Giants front office must be feeling a bit of vindication over today's reports.

Sox fan are already agitated. Why not show some clear direction? You can’t retool while letting core pieces go.
Mark P
8:48
Lots of contenders routinely do let good players leave (via trade or free agency) or they can rebuild/retool on the fly.  The issue is that when a good player does leave in a trade, the retooling team has to get something worthwhile back....or certainly more than Boston got for Betts, for instance.
I admit that Boston's overall strategy is a little hard to figure, but I don't hate any of their winter moves on an individual level. Turner, in particular, feels like might be a great signing.
Segura

Why is nobody biting here? White Sox, Red Sox, Angels… wake up people
Mark P
8:50
Boston and Anaheim already have a good deal of middle infield depth, so barring a trade, there might not be room for Segura (even though he'd be a solid upgrade for either team).

For the White Sox, agreed, Segura seems like a great fit.

What happens next for Bauer? Add him to the Dodgers rotation? Release? Can he exercise his opt-out if he doesn’t like how he was treated?
Mark P
8:51
All reports indicate that the Dodgers will be releasing Bauer.  2023 is already the last year of his contract, and his last opportunity to opt out was last fall.

Do I sign off on extension for Hoskins and Nola ?
Mark P
8:53
Nola yes, Hoskins probably not.  I've written this before, but Hoskins seems like a relatively expendable piece for Philly, and it wouldn't be a shock if he's traded prior to Opening Day.

Now that the Bauer situation has been cleared up it looks like the Dodgers might have to make a trade for salary relief to stay under the CBT. Who do you think they move?
Mark P
8:55
My suspicion is that the Dodgers might just pay the tax again in 2023, and then try to duck under the threshold in 2024.  Next winter, Kershaw, Syndergaard, JDM, Muncy, Treinen, Hudson, Urias and Bauer can all be free agents, so another big chunk of money is coming off LA's books.
8:57
Now, I would expect the Dodgers will try to extend Urias and probably retain Kershaw again, but even still, that's a lot of money no longer on the payroll.  And also by next winter, the Dodgers will know more about Vargas, Pepiot, Stone, etc. and whether or not they can viably step in as big league regulars

Ham or Turkey?
Mark P

Turkey all the way.  Not a fan of ham in general, and turkey is one of my favorite foods.

Will I miss alll of 23

Almost certainly.  He didn't get his Tommy John surgery until late August, and it was his second TJ procedure

Do hear anything on the Orioles getting any pitching through free agency or possibly trades ?
Mark P
8:58
They make a lot of sense as the "AL East mystery team" reportedly in the hunt for Nathan Eovaldi.

Do think Mo will tell truth about payroll going up.So far it was gone down.   Any chance Cards can get Fried or Sale. Also gave Wainwright way to much and didn’t sign Quintana
Mark P
9:00
Doesn't seem like Atlanta trades Fried to an NL rival, and if you're a Cardinals fan, would you feel great about adding a pitcher with Sale's salary and recent injury track record?
9:02
The Cardinals are another team that usually makes their biggest move on the trade market, so the best may be yet to come from them this winter.  That said, signing Contreras and re-signing Wainwright were already good moves, not to mention convincing Arenado to not opt out

When you said in the last chat that all the A's needed was for 2 players in the Olson and Murphy trades to "pan out", what is your definition of panning out ?
Mark P
9:04
Becoming regulars in an MLB lineup or rotation.
Or if one of the pitchers turns into a really good reliever, that's also not a terrible outcome
Dale Murphy
9:05
Braves give up too much for Murphy?
Mark P
9:07
It was a pretty substantial haul, but maybe only "too much" if you consider that the Braves' farm system is now pretty thin. But, I do think Murphy is the better catcher overall than Contreras
