After all, a good start for Hicks might help somewhat facilitate a future trade
Tim
7:48
Thoughts on the Pollock signing?
Edgar DH
7:48
How great is the acquisition of AJ Pollock? He’s a SOLID big leaguer with a great glove….too old?
Mark P
7:48
I thought it was a solid move for the M's, and Pollock might be an ideal change-of-scenery candidate
7:49
Assuming Kelenic or Trammell can hold their end of a platoon up, it's also key that the Mariners aren't necessarily asking Pollock to be an everyday player.
Drew C
7:50
With the new rule changes, do you think the pitch out will come back to combat the running game?
Mark P
7:50
Very possible.  I think fans (and maybe some teams) are going to be surprised by how much baserunning is going to suddenly become a key weapon again
7:51
At least in the early part of the season, until teams can adjust
Devers lands
7:51
Boston gives Correa what Bogey got in SD would you approve ? I would
Mark P
7:51
Assuming Correa's leg is okay, sure, that would be a canny move for the Red Sox
Griff
7:53
Of the three options at 2nd base for the Jays. Are any of them an acceptable 4th outfielder or everyday outfielder if injury happens?
Mark P
7:53
Merrifield, yes.  Biggio can chip in as a corner outfield in a pinch.
Bill
7:55
Should tigers trade Austin Meadows? Would it be a Renfroe type return?
Mark P
7:55
Considering how Meadows barely played last season, it would be a lot less of a return.  Moving Meadows would be selling low enough for Detroit that I don't see them doing it
Pop quiz hotshot....
7:56
If you still need a 3B, who do you target for trade now that FA has dried up?
Mark P
7:56
Assuming Correa figures things out with the Mets, Eduardo Escobar stands out
Tim
7:56
Does Bobby Grinch still have a Hof chance? I think he should be in
Mark P
7:57
Agreed. December 2024 is the next time the "classic baseball era" (pre-1980) candidates will be judged by the veterans committee, so it'll be a while yet before Grich might be considered.
Nats
8:04
I think Dominic Smith could potentially be a good add to the Nationals. Assuming he plays well next year since he was released does he have an additional year of arbitration control by the Nationals?
Mark P
8:04
Indeed, Smith is controlled through the 2024 season.  That could make for a very nice situation for the Nationals if Smith recaptures any of his old form
Braves
8:05
Does a signing bonus count as per of AAV for luxury tax purposes?
Mark P
8:05
Yes
8:06
So a team couldn't sign a player for, say, $3MM over three seasons but with a $97MM signing bonus
Long Live Safeco Field
8:06
Have you been to *snark* T-Mobile Park? What did you think?
Mark P
8:07
Great ballpark, one of my favourite places to ever see a game
Bedazzled
8:08
Is Gunnar Henderson just Corey Seager 2.0?
Mark P
8:09
"Just"?  Is that supposed to imply that the Orioles would be disappointed with that outcome?
Tim
8:09
What are the Giants going to do about catcher and first base?
Mark P
8:10
Davis/Wade seems like the plan for a first base platoon, and the Giants will certainly pick up a veteran catcher to ease Bart's workload.
Shohei Othani
8:11
Where will I be the best player ever to play the game next year?
Mark P
8:12
At this very moment, my guess is that the Dodgers sign Ohtani to a record contract.  Obviously a ton can happen between now and next offseason, chief among them the Angels getting a new owner who likely wouldn't want to see Ohtani walk out the door in their first season with the team
Adam
8:12
What were you doing that you were awake for the Correa news?
Mark P
8:13
Haha, so, I was the one who posted the Correa/Mets news at something like 3am ET.  I'm a night owl anyway, and that evening I was up particularly late watching TV or listening to podcasts.  As I recall, I was half-asleep anyway getting through a show, so I decided to call it a night after first checking Twitter.....and boy, was I was in for a shock
8:14
An hour later, I was finally off to bed.

8:15
Back in December, there were rumors that the Twins would be willing to trade Arreaz for a top starting pitcher. Since then, crickets. Any legs to this?
Mark P
8:16
If another team had come along with just the right offer, sure the Twins would've been open to moving Arraez.  But not for anything less than a top-tier arm.
Sam
8:17
Do you think that the Yankees bullpen situation is being overlooked? they seemed to fall apart at the end of last year even after demoting chapman
Mark P
8:18
NYY was hit with a lot of bullpen injuries, some of which are still issues heading into 2023 (i.e. Effross' TJ surgery, Michael King's elbow fracture).  But in general, the pen should continue being a strength for the Yankees, and they're likely to add at least one more arm to the mix
Jerry Dipoto
8:19
If Julio wins the MVP this year, how surprised on a scale from 1 to 10?
Mark P
8:19
3?
