Royce Lewis
6:43
Now that Correa has re-signed, do I stay at short or do I move to 3rd?
Mark P
6:43
It seems like Lewis might not have been seen as a long-term shortstop even before Correa returned, so a position change seems in order
Cards fan
6:44
Jim Bowden has said the Cardinals were trying to pull off a trade but keeping it under wraps because if it came out public would hamper the trade. You believe this? If so, who do you believe they are trying to trade for?
Mark P
6:45
I have no reason to doubt this scenario.  There are surely dozens upon dozens of trades floated between teams that we never hear about, for whatever reason or another
Daniel
6:45
I’m a pirates fan happy to have mccutchen back will bring in more fans
Mark P
6:46
It's a cool story, and speaking of clubhouse leaders earlier, McCutchen is an ideal choice to help mentor the young Bucs
Dodger Dude
6:47
Do you think the Dodgers extend Urias before the end of the season? They won’t let him get on the open market will they? They have so many years invested in him.
Mark P
6:49
With only a year to go before free agency, Urias would likely command a premium to re-sign in LA and forego his chance at the open market.  Not that the Dodgers couldn't afford a $200MM contract or something if they really wanted to keep Urias in the fold, but there would surely not be any hometown discount at play

Super Bowl picks?
Mark P
6:50
The 49ers seems unstoppable at this point, so my Super Bowl pick is SF over KC
Sox Fan
6:51
What would the White Sox have to give up to get Chisholm from Miami that doesn't take away from their winning efforts of this year?
Mark P
6:52
Seems hard to believe that the Marlins would move Chisholm, since that's the kind of trade that would signal another rebuild/reload in Miami.
Spaceman
6:53
If you were CHaim would you consider KC's Mondesi for SS. I know the injury history. What would it cost the Sox in players/prospects? Thank you kindly.
Mark P
6:53
Tough to say, given Mondesi's enormous injury history.  If you're the Red Sox or any other team, you might only be comfortable offering another lottery-ticket type of player (injury candidate, post-hype prospect, etc.) for Mondesi, and that kind of offer might not really get the Royals' attention.
Matt Mervis
6:55
My stock's pretty high right now. What sort of starting pitcher could the cubs get for me?
Mark P
6:57
Selling high on Mervis would be an interesting pivot for the Cubs, and such an idea briefly occurred to me when I saw the Mancini signing yesterday.  You'd be perhaps giving up early on a future building block at 1B, yet first base is also a relatively easy position to fill down the road.

For instance, maybe the Cubs get on the phone with Miami and see if any of the Marlins' many young arms could be available for a Mervis-related trade package
Orioles again
6:58
Hi, Mark! In recent news about the Orioles, Roth Kubatko talks about still having talks with Michael Wacha. What has prevented his signature so far? Is he looking for a multi-year contract? Or are the Orioles preferring to acquire a pitcher via trade with another organization like the Marlins or Brewers? If they do not sign Wacha, could they sign a pitcher like Zach Greinke for instance?
Mark P
6:59
Any number of things could be holding up a signing, assuming the "interest" in anything more than due diligence from either side.  It could be that Wacha might prefer to pitch outside of the AL East, or the Orioles aren't willing to meet his asking price, etc.
Hopeful Rangers Fan
7:01
obviously, the asking price for Bryan Reynolds is astronomical. What do you think about turning to Minnesota for Max Kepler as the solution in LF? He’d add that needed lefty bat, as well as be a perfect stopgap for Zavala or Carter when they get here in the next couple seasons.
Mark P
7:01
Kepler isn't a bad backup plan, though there are enough questions about his approach at the plate that even with the new shift rules, the Rangers might not think Kepler is too big of an upgrade over what they already have
Frohan Santana
7:02
Montas for Kepler as a starting point - who says no?
Mark P
7:02
Minnesota's not so eager to move Kepler that they'll deal him for a pitcher who suddenly seems like a real injury concern
Marky Mark
7:04
How do you assemble a team that can win both during the long regular season AND in the postseason? What's the magic formula in your estimation?
Mark P
7:04
Good pitching, and lots of it.  Naturally every World Series winner doesn't adhere to this formula since there is no ideal formula, given the often-random nature of the baseball playoffs.
biz
7:06
are the Cardinals front office still alive.  They have had very little off-season activity.  What gives on their lack of activity?
Mark P
7:07
John Mozeliak went into some detail yesterday about what the Cards were and weren't up to this offseason, and why things have been relatively quiet

Jose Ramirez
7:07
How do I look in the mirror seeing what others got in FA after signing my extension last year giving CLEVELAND the home town discount?
Mark P
7:08
Ramirez already knew he was leaving money on the table by signing that extension, so I don't think this winter's flurry of contracts has led to many (or any) regrets.  Ramirez's top priority was staying in Cleveland and being a Guardian for the rest of his career, money be damned.
The Shohei Kid
7:09
If top pitchers are getting 40MM and top hitters are getting 35-40MM, how much can I get next year?  In addition to doing both, there’s also  ton of value to saving an extra  roster spot.
Mark P
7:09
Ohtani is going to quite comfortably sail past the $400MM mark on his next contract, and we can't rule him out as baseball's first $500MM player
Susan
7:10
Could Albies be a trade chip for a SS? 5 years of a very reasonable contract should bring back an all star, Braves could commit to Grissom at 2B
Mark P
7:11
Albies' contract is also incredibly valuable to the Braves, however, especially as they've spent their other dollars on other extensions.  I don't see an Albies trade happening.
Marky Mark
7:12
I believe that a rebound from Berrios is the keys to the Blue Jays season IMO. What says Marky Mark?
Mark P
7:12
Berrios returning to his pre-2022 form would suddenly make Toronto's rotation look a lot more dangerous, no doubt.
Finn
7:13
Does Ohtani not count as an international prospect? Is an Angels fan seriously complaining about not ever getting a top international player when they may have just gotten one of the best of all time?
Mark P
7:13
Ohtani obviously isn't an "international prospect" in the traditional sense, since he was already an established player in Japan
Darren
7:14
Is it just me who thinks Cleveland need to make a real push for another pitcher you’d be comfortable starting a playoff game? Quantrill, Plesac, Civale are all reliable arms and have value over a full season but, in a short series, they need another dynamite arm to add to Bieber/McKenzie. Is that arm out there now or more likely mid-season when some teams fall out of contention?
Mark P
7:14
The Guardians have enough pitching depth that I still think hitting (at least one more bat) is their biggest need.
Jonathan India
7:15
With all the infielders at the top of the Reds’ prospect pool, would Cincinnati consider trading me for outfield prospects?
Mark P
7:17
As per that past report about the Reds being open to moving young infielders for young infielders, the implication was that Cincinnati was open to prospect-for-prospect deals, or for players who had just made their MLB debuts.

It would presumably take quite a bit more to pry India away, since the Reds surely still consider him a long-term building block.  India is controlled through 2026, and the Reds feel they'll be back in contention well before then
