Do you think the Rays could trade for Rowdy Tellez?
Mark P
7:19
The Rays and Brewers are known trade partners, and Tellez would help the power-starved Tampa lineup.  Maybe not a one-for-one type of trade, but a multi-player swap would make sense
Bob Smith
7:21
What do you think the Phillies and Rhys Hoskins emd up doing after this last year of arbitration?
Mark P
7:22
My suspicion has been that Hoskins would either be let go, or even traded since opening up the first base spot creates some flexibility for the Phillies.  It'd be similar to how the Phils were comfortable letting Segura walk this winter.

7:23
Do you think Mancini will really be better than last year?  He didn’t look good last year.   Great story though
Mark P
7:24
Between the lockout, the shortened Spring Training, the different dimensions in Camden Yards, and the midseason trade, Mancini had a whole lot to deal with in 2022.  There is some sense to the idea that he'll hit better with more of a straight-forward "normal" offseason free of health concerns or labor interruptions

7:25
Will the brewers extend burnes?
Mark P
7:26
I'm not optimistic that either Burnes or Woodruff will be extended.  It's certainly possible I'm wrong, and a new front office has a different approach or perhaps owner Mark Attanasio is willing to splurge.  But, based on the Brewers' past track record, signing either pitcher to a big long-term deal doesn't seem overly likely
Joshua
7:27
Why wouldn’t a money conscious team looking for offense try and take a shot on Joey Meneses? I would think a team like the Rays, Brewers, Marlins etc would find it prudent to take the chance. I can imagine he could be had for something that wouldn’t sting those teams prospect inventory.
Mark P
7:29
Meneses is a difficult player to float in trade talks, since if you're another team, how much are you willing to give up for a player who had such an unexpected breakout?  And, if you're the Nationals, even "selling high" has some risk, since if Meneses is actually the real deal, that sell-high trade suddenly doesn't seem so high

Will science advance this far?
Mark P
7:30
"Six-minute abs?  That's crazy?!"
Mike
7:32
By my head count, the A's have no real long term use for Laureano, Kemp, Brown, Irvin, Kaprelian and Blackburn. Could all be moved by opening day? Puk is supposed to go into the rotation too.
Mark P
7:33
I don't think you'll see the A's have another full-on fire sale again, but they're certainly always open to dealing pretty much anyone on the roster (and certainly from that mentioned group)
Nats
7:33
Best bounce back candidate the Nats have signed out of Dickerson, Smith and Candalerio?
Mark P
7:33
I might be higher on Smith than most, but I think he badly needed a change of scenery from the Mets
JR
7:34
Gut feeling: are the Mariners done, save for a smaller add (platoon bat/DH, etc.) or do you think Trader Jerry has one more bigger trade him in to add a little more impact to the roster? Feels like the ship has sailed on a Reynolds trade for Seattle but I can see them pulling off the 2023 equivalent of last year's Winker/Suarez trade. Or should I stop dreaming and learn to love whatever minor league deals they add from here on out?
Mark P
7:35
I find it hard to believe that Dipoto is done making significant moves
Adam Duvall
7:36
Do the Jays make a move for an OF that can hit lefties to fill the bench or just give Otto Lopez that last spot?
Mark P
7:37
Lopez seems like an interesting player that deserves a longer look at the MLB level, though it might be tough to find playing time on Toronto's roster.  I wouldn't mind seeing him worked into the second base mix if possible, just to see what Lopez can really do
Gashouse Gorillas
7:38
Which arbitration case that wasn't settled surprised you the most, either because of how close the sidesare and couldn't reach a consensus or how far apart the sides are?
Mark P
7:39
None of the numbers shocked me all that much.  In general, I realize that teams stick to the "file and trial" system and face league-wide pressure to limit arb salaries....but some of these gaps between salary figures are so small that you wonder why the two sides can't just split the difference and save everyone a lot of stress

What does an extension offer for Nola look like that gets the job done? 6/180?
Mark P
7:41
With Nola also being only a year away from free agency, this is another situation where it'll likely take at least a $200MM extension offer to entice him to stay put
Brandon
7:41
What do you think the chances are that Farhan is still running the show next year if the Giants don't improve?
Mark P
7:42
Only Giants ownership knows how satisfied they are with Zaidi's job performance, but on paper, one would imagine there's certainly a lot of pressure on the 2023 team.  If the Giants are again only around .500 and not in contention, and there are still a lot of empty seats around the ballpark, a front office change certainly seems plausible.

Are the Rangers done for now, reports put there CBT# about 12-15MM shy of the first threshold.  Barring a LF falling in our lap,  we could still use a RP.
Mark P
7:44
Given how the Rangers have been willing to spend, the tax threshold doesn't seem like it'll be any kind of obstacle.  If Texas can find a quality reliever and a quality left fielder available at the right price (whether in free agency or trade), they'll obtain both.
Sox
7:45
do the Sox think Jose A. Was The problem as all they have really done is let him go and replace him with Benni
Mark P
7:46
Abreu obviously wasn't a "problem," it's just that opening up first base for Vaughn (and putting Benintendi in the OF) helps the lineup overall, given the defensive upgrade
Aaron
7:48
Regarding the arb numbers, I thought the Brewers offering Burnes $10.01M so they could say "hey, we went over $10M" was...interesting. Not a great look imo
Mark P
7:49
I had to do a double-take on that figure, and it's kind of amusing that the Brewers (who I'm assuming use the salary/production formulas that most teams employ) came up with such a weirdly specific figure, as opposed to just a flat $10MM
Gage
7:50
What will happen with Vinnie Pasquantino this year? Will he be traded
Mark P
7:50
If anything, the Royals will or should be giving him everyday at-bats
Gary Sanchez
7:51
Do I get a major league contract? Where and how much?
Mark P
7:51
There's enough need for catching that Sanchez will certainly land somewhere on a guaranteed deal.
Dave
7:52
How much does commentator noise is actually heard by general managers?
Mark P
7:53
What's the old line about how if a GM or manager spends too much time listening to the fans, he'll find himself sitting with them?
SOX
7:54
Do the Red Sox have a plan for security blanket at 1B or does Casas have the keys. I feel like there should be a backup plan just in case. But they have so many other holes maybe I'm just nitpicking now
Mark P
7:55
The Arroyo/Dalbec/Refsnyder crew are the backup plan, and i suspect Justin Turner will get some looks at first base this year
