What are your thoughts on the rumored Baty for Cabrera or Luzardo trade? Fair at a 1:1? Or would have one side needed to add more
Mark P
9:45
I'd be a little surprised if the offer was a pure one-for-one, since you'd think Miami would've wanted a more proven MLB hitter for Cabrera or Luzardo
JP Crawford
9:46
Is this a make-or-break season for me?
Mark P
9:47
Not in the strict sense of the term, since Crawford's contract pays him about $30MM through 2026.  But if Crawford has another down year, the Mariners' stance on keeping him as their shortstop is going to be a lot weaker

What baseball do you expect the league to produce this year? They went big in 2019 and very small in 2022, so do you expect more of the same or a drift to the center?

Chances Jays are able to sign Vladdy to an extension this season?
Mark P
9:50
If I'm the Blue Jays, I'd like to see a bit of a bigger offensive season from Vlad before I sign him up for a monster extension.  Just to have some more certainty.  A 2021-esque season will raise Guerrero's asking price, but since the Jays will be paying him a fortune anyway, they might welcome that extra money for the extra certainty

Sal Bando deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. True or False?
Mark P
9:52
Another player who isn't a HOFer in my view, since his prime was just a little too short.

It is worth noting, however, that Bando was awfully close to being the best player in baseball for his six-year prime.  He had a fantastic run in Oakland, putting up big numbers and winning three titles.  RIP to the captain of the Swingin' A's
lost an aussie gain a britton?
9:53
Do we know what teams were at the Zack Britton Sessions? Not saying we get him and name him closer but seems the white sox should at least be at the sessions right?
Mark P
9:54
Most teams have scouts at pretty much all open showcases like that, out of pure due diligence if nothing else.  So, reports of particular teams being at Britton's showcase isn't necessarily a sign of interest

Bengals or chiefs
Mark P

I will very hesitantly take the Bengals, since Mahomes' ankle is too big of a concern

A lot of people seem to hate on an agent for doing their job a certain way. But how do so many people not realize that I’m doing just that, my job.
Mark P
9:57
Boras is happy to play the "villain" since it takes any heat away from his clients, and Boras also has no problem playing up his rep (the big Winter Meetings press conferences, the puns, etc.)
Ohtani
9:58
100% new owner will not let me leave
Mark P
9:59
If a new owner convinces Ohtani that the organization is on the right track, and obviously pays up with a record-setting extension offer, Ohtani will remain in Anaheim.  But, it's just speculation on my part, since Ohtani hasn't given any hint about his feelings other than being frustrated over losing (which is natural for any player)

Which NL team (projected around or below .500) do you think could be a surprise playoff contender this year?
Mark P
10:02
I seem to perpetually have the Diamondbacks as my under-the-radar team, but looking at Arizona's roster, I like what I see.  The bullpen could still use some serious work, but I wouldn't be totally shocked to see them emerge as a wild card threat

Whats my ceiling this year?
Mark P
10:04
NL ROY, if we're talking absolute ceiling

I think cincy shocks everyone and let’s Elly break camp. I see Elly playing 2B/3B/OF as he learns on the job. Cincy cleared out Mous, barerro isn’t cutting it, Newman is an insurance policy.. Cincy goes after the ROY and rides with Elly. Does Elly break camp with Cincy?

De La Cruz has played only 47 games in Double-A, and nothing in Triple-A.  The Reds aren't going to risk rushing him to the majors and hurting his development, considering that EDLC is looking like the gem of their future
Giants rotation
10:05
Any chance the Giants could move DeSclafani?   I don’t see a role for him with Stripling & Manaea joining Webb-Cobb-Wood?   And will Sam Long ever get a fair shot with them?
Mark P
10:06
If another team came along with a good offer, SF probably wouldn't say no.  But, the Giants (like every team) wants rotation depth, and it's hard to imagine another club coming up with some really keen offer for a pitcher who missed almost all of 2022

Does Oscar Colas snag the opening day RF job for the Chisox?
Mark P
10:07
Leaning towards yes
Enrico Palazzo

Brewers bullpen is very RHP heavy. Do you see them as a player for someone like Chafing, or is a lesser free agent or trade more likely? They still have room in the budget compared to last year.
Mark P
10:09
It isn't Milwaukee's style to spend too much on relievers, so a "lesser' pickup seems likely.

Also, Ashby or Small could end up being used as lefties out of the bullpen, if everyone in the projected rotation stays healthy

lets be real, Rosario isn’t getting an extension. Which ss hungry team has something to offer Cleveland in return for his year before FA
Mark P
10:11
Red Sox make a lot of sense as a Rosario suitor, as a one-year stopgap while Story is out.  If Story does make it back before 2023 is over, then the Sox suddenly have a good problem of depth, and perhaps then Story can play some 2B

Do you feel that every stadium should one day have at least a retractable roof?  Do we have the technology to add one to any stadium?
Mark P
10:13
I'm no engineer, but I think it's basically impossible to add a retractable roof to a pre-existing stadium.

With some possible bias since I've seen most of my MLB games in Toronto, but it's wild to me that new stadiums are built *without* retractable roofs.  Especially since Milwaukee and Seattle taught us that a retractable-roof park can be built without sacrificing much of anything in classic ballpark aesthetic.
Blue Jays
10:13
Should I have pursued Pablo Lopez, or am I good on starting pitchers?
Mark P
10:14
The Jays were linked to Lopez dating back to last year, and they certainly must've floated some offers Miami's way.  But, perhaps the ask on the Marlins' end was just too much for the Blue Jays' liking.
