Glad to see MLBTR is now doing three live chats per week. How about spacing them out to M-W-F so there is time for new content to discuss?
Jeffrey Todd

Hmm not a bad idea. I will raise that thought.

I have always wondered about this pass through waivers trading, let's take Soria for example, if I am the team that wants to trade for him and the other team wants someone on the 40 man in return, does that player also have to clear waivers?
Jeffrey Todd
2:54
Yes.

Unless they are looking at MLBTR.
(Yes, I'm way behind on your questions ... catching up.)

I hate my career too and want to find something else, but don't want to go back to school. Any advice? Any openings at mlbtr?
Jeffrey Todd
2:57
If you have your finances in order and a reasonable fall-back plan, just quit and figure it out later. I had that plan in motion before randomly seeing an ad for a part-time MLBTR job. (No current openings, sorry!)

Ellsbury to the Rangers, now that Choo, Hamilton, and Fielders are all done?
Jeffrey Todd
2:57
Don't really see that. He is just owed so much, I don't see him moving. Then again, Vernon Wells and Alex Rios were both traded, so.

How has Dave Stewart not been fired yet?
Jeffrey Todd
2:59
It all starts with the La Russa hiring. Weird situation over there. Thing is, it isn't like they haven't been able to evaluate talent altogether or anything. Same with the Towers regime. There are some really good players there that weren't hyped prospects.

If you have the money and roster space, which Gurriel brother would you hire? or none.
Jeffrey Todd
2:59
All three of them.

How come nobody complains about Football trying to speed up the game? There is more idle time in Football than any other sport.
Jeffrey Todd

Great point. More time to dish about soap opera storylines and listen to nonsense "analysts".
Some people like that, I guess.
Redskins-Chiefs game I attended back in like 2010 was unbearably slow and awful. Far worse than any baseball experience I've ever had.

Do a poll for where Carlos Gomez lands? Marlins, Mets, Indians and ???
Jeffrey Todd
3:01
That's a good idea.
Where will Carlos Gomez end up?

Marlins (47.9% | 332 votes)

Mets (15% | 104 votes)

Indians (9.1% | 63 votes)

Other (28% | 194 votes)

Daughter went w/ND Law over William & Mary. Thoughts?
Jeffrey Todd

Both seem like great options but you gotta get that in-state tuition if that was available!

Thoughts on the Astros handling of their first base prospects? Wallace, Singleton, White and Reed have all been failures.
Jeffrey Todd
3:03
I don't know that any difference in handling would have changed anything, but that certainly has not worked out thus far.

Do you ever wish reply would go away so we could get some good ejections and manager/ump arguments? I miss those days...

It is bittersweet.

Is there a waiver deadline ,if so what is the deadline

Players that go to a new organization after 8/31 cannot appear in the post-season for that organization. There are occasionally still deals in September for fill-in players, though.

Will the Mets bring Lucas Duda back next year? The back injury should scare them off, right?
Jeffrey Todd
3:05
Long as he shows progress he's worth the commitment.
Better to buy one more year of Duda than commit 3 to 5 to a FA who may not be a better hitter.

Bigger mistake: Mets thinking David Wright would play 110+ games or not bringing back Daniel Murphy?
Jeffrey Todd
3:07
The former. I mean, the whole 2B thing looked great at the time and certainly hasn't been any kind of disaster - far from it - it's just that Murphy has been amazing.
Maybe they should've known that, but hard to complain too much. Even Wright, though, hey - they had Flores.
Remember, the Nats fell off after their 2012 breakout. It happens.

The Pirates should go for Chris Sale this offseason, no? Pirates have a lot of controllable players locked into contracts (their outfield, Kang, Cervelli, etc.) the next few years (establishing a playoff window and creating flexibility in trading from their strong farm system). Their rotation is much improved since the break, but it seems like they really need to go for it soon. Sale is affordable during their supposed window, a lockdown starter, and they have the pieces that the White Sox might want.
Jeffrey Todd
3:08
Typically not the way the Bucs go about getting their pitching.

With the playoffs riding on having better starting pitching, who should Baltimore have traded for instead of Miley?
