Oooohhh. It always gets complicated with the ups and downs of player performance. Now the leverage seems to have shifted back to the Cubs a bit. This general roller coaster took place with the Nats and Strasburg. Still, that deal was a stunner, and it would remain a surprise if a long-term deal is worked out before Arrieta hits the open market.

Nats athletic trainer Paul Lessard says MRI for Strasburg was clean regarding ligament. Has a "flexor mass" strain.

So ... I tend to see this as perhaps a bit of a tiebreaker. I get why people want the MVP to have "led" his team to the postseason. But if there's a player who is head and shoulders above everyone else, I think he deserves the award whether or not his teammates stunk.

Not really. I mean, there is some value for sure in the fact that Pujols' bat has never really fallen below the "pretty danged good" level. But it wasn't really enough to support even this year's earnings for a 1B/DH, let alone the future.
