What could I realistically get for Braun if we ate half his contract?
Jeffrey Todd
2:42
I don't see why that's necessary. Braun is worth his deal, more or less. Beyond that, eating or not eating any amount is the same as putting a straight pricetag on any prospect in a hypothetical sale scenario.

With Albies now on the DL, what are the odds that he will start the 2017 season on the major league roster?
Jeffrey Todd
2:43
Never seemed all that likely to me. If nothing else, they'd have probably bought another year of control by waiting a couple weeks. But now -- pretty much a sealed deal he'll start in minors, probably.

Do MLBTR writers contribute to each others' posts?
Jeffrey Todd
2:45
Depends. Usually if we truly share the writing we'll both be in the byline. But it is fairly common to work on someone else's post -- edit, update, etc. For original posts, we often share drafts and discuss -- but not always.

Hi Jeff! Do you have a preferred World Series matchup? If so, which teams would you like to see play one another and why? Thank you.
Jeffrey Todd
2:47
I am a DC native, but I feel like the Cubs in the WS is too good a storyline not to want to see it happen as a general baseball fan. Red Sox would be a compelling opponent in some ways. But I'd like to see the Indians staff try to shut down the Cubbies.

Is Daniel Murphy's uptick in BA and power sustainable for further seasons, or is it mostly the product of luck for one season? What kind of regression is to be expected?
Jeffrey Todd
2:48
Some regression, but it is pretty well documented that he has changed his approach and sustained this output for some time now. So I think the expectations are a fair bit higher.

Is Michael Wacha ticketed for the bullpen next year or do the Cardinals give him another couple shots at staying healthy for 150+ innings.

Why won't Theo sign a new contract? Should we be worried about him leaving after we win the World Series?
Jeffrey Todd
2:50
Leverage. No rush for him. Interesting situation -- always seemed like it would just happen, but if Theo really wants to make a move, this fall could be the time. I wonder what he's really after -- promotion, ownership, huge $? Maybe not, but it'll be interesting.
@JonHeyman
Initial look at Strasburg last night has made nats hopeful it's not too serious. More definitive mri is this aft.

Mets have to resign Cespy no? How do they possibly sell letting him walk? Please don't tell me Jay Bruce/Michael Conforto...
Jeffrey Todd
2:51
It will probably take unprecedented money for this team's recent past. Getting him back was a stroke of genius/fortune, but it'll cost this time.

Conceivable that Colon is actually the best FA SP available this winter?

2:53
I mean, depending upon one's perspective, you might call him the top target.
2:54
He won't be the biggest earner though ... Hellickson, Nova, Hill probably each get bigger deals. But who the heck knows, that is a seriously weird group of FA starters.

That's an example of the annoyance some people have during these chats. A person asks about a RETURN for Braun, but the answer nitpicks at part of the question and does not address the answer. Anyways, love you, love your show.
Jeffrey Todd
2:56
Not trying to be evasive. But the question asked about a return assuming half the contract was paid down. And I think Braun is more or less worth his contract. So that's like asking how much the Brewers could get for $38MM (or whatever half the obligation is).

What 3B options could be available in trade in the offseason? Longoria?
Jeffrey Todd
2:57
Rays might need to be ready to listen. Could be an opportunity there. Frazier might be available. Valencia. Plouffe (who I see as a much more likely NT candidate).
Ray
2:58
Are postseason results random or does the best team usually win?
Jeffrey Todd
2:58
Neither. It isn't random, but the best team doesn't necessarily win. It's a different kind of fun, but certainly isn't as reflective of true talent as the regular season.

How does the Cespedes option work? If he opts out, can the Mets give a QO? The QO'
Jeffrey Todd

Yes, Mets can make a QO.
Oh two in a row for Ray! Totally accidental.

Everyone's talking about trading McCann and maybe Gardner in the offseason, but what about taking advantage of selling Castro now that his value has stabilized (and could be marketed as a SS, too), and then giving Ref a real chance at 2B?
Jeffrey Todd
3:01
Not sure what Refsnyder has really done to warrant an open door to a regular job at second base. Doesn't seem they believe in him quite that much. If he earns a secondary role and plays well, still have flexibility to play either player at third.

Are Matt Holliday and Jaime Garcia Cardinals next year?
Jeffrey Todd
3:02
I'll guess yes to both. Holliday agreeing to some kind of re-worked agreement and Garcia option being picked up.
