The Giants have territorial rights over basically the entire Bay Area except for Oakland, which was a past obstacle in the Athletics' attempts to move to San Jose or Fremont.  So if the A's moved, presumably Oakland would also be part of Giants territory, and they'd block attempts to put a new team into the city

It's not really the SOP of Hazen to deal cost-controlled MLB talent for short-term contracts, but if we get to a point where Carroll, Fletcher, McCarthy, and Thomas are in the swing of things, that's a lot of CFs; any teams looking for help in the OF?
Mark P
9:05
Plenty, and Fletcher's emergence might allow the D'Backs to pursue a lower-key version of the Varsho deal....moving an outfielder for a regular at another position of need

What is this birds bees thing? I am obviously missing something.
??
9:05
Where is this beads bees reference from? I’m always confused be this ………….
Mark P
9:05
It is a reference to an old Arrested Development joke, and it might be amusing only to me at this point (or possibly to Jason Bateman if he reads this chat)

Do we need pitchers or position players at the deadline? And which players would be the best fit based on that?
Mark P
9:07
As noted earlier, the Jays could use more relief help, and some kind of swingman in general might be useful since there isn't much in the way of rotation depth.  The Blue Jays have been fortunate to not have any rotation injuries to date, and that luck probably isn't likely to keep up for an entire season.
Bench depth would also help, since Biggo/Espinal/Lukas have limited value.

Should there be a minimum stay on the active roster to cut down on roster turnover? Even 5 days to stop players from getting selected and designated in the same day
Mark P
9:09
The new CBA included a provision stating that players could only be called up a maximum of five times per season, so that limits the MLB/Triple-A shuttle to some extent.  But a five-day minimum is hard to mandate since, naturally, teams would want the flexibility in shuffling their rosters to fit specific needs

Why does not one read the standings when It comes to the Brewers? They're leading the division.  Maybe they sold off Hader last year, but they realized the error,so one would hope it's not an every year occurrence.

9:11
Fans aren't wrong in thinking (or assuming) that Burnes, Adames, or Woodruff when healthy will eventually traded.  But yeah, circumstances are definitely different than last year.

I asked Anthony on Friday what managers were on the hot seat.  Let me turn that around for you, Mark.  What current managers are going to the Hall of Fame (guaranteed or well on the road).  and thanks again for the Sunday night chat.

Baker, Francona, and Bochy are locks for Cooperstown.  Dave Roberts is amassing a pretty incredible resume and he has a ring, even if Dodgers fans want him fired every year.  Showalter has a good chance, and a championship gets him over the top.  Guys like Cash or Snitker are interesting possible candidates

Does Buxton ever get back to playing CF, or is he a permanent DH?  The Twins need to keep him healthy, but moving him back to CF opens up the logjam when Kepler returns.
Mark P
9:16
He won't play DH forever, but if you're the Twins, there must be some real "if it ain't broke..." thought going on about what to do with Buxton.  However, it seems like the outfield can never all stay healthy at the same time, so the question keeps being kicked down the road.

Yankees fans wouldn’t be happy, but should the team aggressively dangle Jasson Dominguez at some point? Cashman’s seat has to be at least a little warm, right?
Mark P
9:18
According to reports from last August, the Yankees did offer Dominguez to the Reds for Luis Castillo, but it seems like Cincinnati was specifically targeting middle infielders and wanted Volpe or Peraza as well
9:19
So it's not out of the question that the Yankees could again float Dominguez for another premium trade piece that isn't just a rental for the rest of the 2023 season

If Dodgers still intend to get under tax how could they do it
Mark P
9:21
Roster Resource has their tax number at roughly $245.2MM, which is close enough to the $233MM tax line that it's not inconceivable that L.A. could get creative and duck under the threshold.

However, that could likely mean attaching quality prospects in trades, plus the Dodgers still have needs to address at the deadline.
Barring something very creative, the likelier scenario is that the Dodgers pay the tax again and perhaps look to duck under the threshold next year, if it can be managed (while still pursuing Ohtani, for instance)

Braves rotation seems to be in trouble via injuries.  Do you see them taking a chance on Madison Bumgarner and if the bats go silent, could it be that their record by All Star break is 500 at best?
Mark P
9:23
Atlanta has enough talent that I'm not really too worried about their chances of staying well over .500 and atop the NL East, even with the rotation injuries.  The other NL East teams seem to be having their own sets of problems, for instance.
Also, Bumgarner has pitched so poorly in recent years that he isn't likely to be much or any of an upgrade over the Braves' in-house choices
DBacks surplus
9:24
Sorry for the added question, but where exactly would one identify as a position of need for the DBacks (aside from one or two arms at SP/RP, which they already have a slew of arms battling for)? They're obviously set in the OF, C is pretty well set, and the IF is set as well.
Mark P
9:26
While the D'Backs have pitchers, they could absolutely use a more proven arm (in either the rotation or bullpen) rather than allotting three rotation spots to rookies
Tyler Stephenson
9:27
Any idea what's going on with him? Real lack of power and striking out looking quite a lot.
Mark P
9:29
He could still be getting back into the flow of regular action after missing so much of the 2022 season.  Or, the Reds' plan to have him play regularly (between catcher, DH, and some 1B) might actually be hampering Stephenson

My pre-playoffs pick of Boston over Denver is still in play, so I'm sticking with it.  (My Stanley Cup pick of Boston over Colorado is, uh, doing not so well.)
And I didn't think the 76ers had a chance in today's game. It really felt like they missed their window by losing Game 6

Could Mitch Keller be a trade candidate?
Greg
9:30
Are you buying or selling the start of Mitch Keller? He looks pretty dominant so far.
Mark P
9:31
I think there might be a better chance Pittsburgh extends Keller than trades him

Will the tigers bring up Justyn-Henry Mallory before the end of the month? He's crushing it at triple and mason looks like he could see some time in the minors
Mark P
9:33
He's had a fantastically quick rise through the minors, so the Tigers probably want to give him a bit more Triple-A time before bringing him to the Show.  But you're right, JHM definitely looks like he'll be making his MLB debut before the year is out

What type of value do I hold if I keep pitching like the old me? Say the Sox pick up 10 million a year?
