I guess if I had a couple hundred to burn, I'd love to have beat up copies of the iconic '52 Topps Mantle and Mays issues. Amazing artwork.

Guess at Wilson Ramos contract? Thanks.

Braves are 43-45 in their last 88. Safe to say they're not as far from contending for Wild Card as some people think? Maybe just another pitcher or two?
Jeffrey Todd
2:20
Not sure about that. The Phillies were at about that record (give or take). There's sample bias at play all the time, and it's not always a reflection of true improvement in talent (or the opposite).
2:21
Also, what pitcher or two are they going to get? The free agent class is abysmal and there's tons of competition. I get that they are willing to spend some, but where will that money go? If it's on reclamation projects of some kind -- like the Phils did in trading for Hellickson and Morton -- you never know if it'll work.
Can't rule out 2017 contention, but it would still require many things to go right.

do you think the redsox would consider not signing a dh and just have hanley or pablo dh and the other plays 1b? if not what do they do with pablo
Jeffrey Todd
2:21
Don't see that. Pablo will be in the mix, but I don't think they'll stake the season on him.

What do you forsee from the Angels this offseason? They have a ton of holes to fill, but figure to have a lot of cash to spend too with Weaver & Wilson off the books. Do they try to stock up, sell-off some non-Trout assets, or something in between?
Jeffrey Todd
2:22
I'm not sure. They are in as tough a bind as any team in the majors right now. Could just be more of the mid-range free agent signings. Season is highly dependent upon whether they can get healthy in the rotation and find some hidden gems in FA.
(In as tough a bind in the sense that it's hard to assess how they should proceed. Obviously they have Trout and a big payroll.)

Sean Rodriguez has been on a tear for Pirates recently. Is he pricing himself out of the Burgh with each HR?
Jeffrey Todd
2:23
Quite possibly. They aren't likely to reach to sign a guy like that so much as try to find the next one.

Do you think Cleveland might be tempted to move Andrew Miller into the starting rotation for the playoffs to compensate for the losses of Carrasco and Salazar?
Jeffrey Todd
2:23
Nope.

Always been curious about just how valuable positional versatility is. So, hypothetically, if Brock Holt was a free agent this offseason, what kind of contract would he be looking at?
Jeffrey Todd
2:26
Not sure you can really put a number on it, but if nothing else it makes a player potentially fit with more organizations, which increases demand and thus their market standing. It's quite useful to have that kind of player, especially if you aren't quite sure where your needs will be. I'd think Holt would be paid something on the order of a good fourth outfielder, and with his age, could maybe land something like 3/24? Bat isn't great. Don't know, haven't thought in depth. It's an interesting question.

Hey Jeff, what do you think the chances are of the White Sox Trading both Sale and Quintana?
Jeffrey Todd
2:28
Still feels unlikely, certainly that they'd trade both. It would probably be a situation where they ask teams for certain packages off the bat, and if they can't get what they'd need, they move on with a different offseason course. I don't think they'll go in just having decided they will cash one or both in for the best prospect package they can.

Well done turning off the peanut gallery Jeffrey. A guy like you kind of has to, right? You can't take disagreement, and when people disagree they're racist bigots.
Jeffrey Todd

Ok. I thought maybe we just could do without the poop icons.

No I don't want to trade Sale but would this a FAIR return from the RedSox, Bradley OR Benintendi, Moncada, Devers, and Groome OR Kopech?
Jeffrey Todd
2:29
That sounds like ballpark fair value. But the market is always dependent upon the desires of its actors.

JEFFREY!!!! Can you imagine just how great the Cubs would be if my Kyle had played the entire year? Is it safe to expect we'll be equally good next year?
Jeffrey Todd

It is crazy to imagine that, on the one hand. On the other ... what great health they have had this year overall.

Am I the most under rated starte in the league?
Jeffrey Todd
2:32
I don't know, I think people are giving him his due. It was understandable that folks were skeptical. I know I was. And still am to some extent -- certainly, I wouldn't expect 200 innings of sub-3 ERA pitching on an annual basis. But nice piece, great find.

What kind of deal is Carlos Gomez looking at this offseason?
Jeffrey Todd
2:33
Man, he'll be interesting to watch. I'm not ready to talk numbers b/c his sample with Texas is so small, but you have to think there will be some clubs excited about making a reasonable bet on the upside.
Then again, he could take a one-year deal to set himself up for better.

Do you think the Mets pick up Jay Bruce's option for next year, given his struggles?
Jeffrey Todd
2:35
I think they acquired him under the assumption it would be exercised. You always have to assess new info as it comes, but if their assessment of the underlying talent is the same, it remains a reasonable price.
Bill

If you're enjoying my comments why not post the one about the Redskins thing? Because it makes you look phoney? Because you pretended to be outraged by a fake controversy and then when no one noticed you went back to using the name on a site you're apart of?

I don't write about football, so ... ? But yes, I used to be a season ticket holder of the Washington football team. : )
All done Bill.
