Jason Adam is injured, could I return as a Rays October surprise high leverage reliever?
Mark P

There hasn't been any recent news on Baz, and unless the Rays are being exceptionally sneaky, he won't be back until 2024

Would Luis Severino make sense for a 1-year bounce-back contract with the Buccos?  I think all he needs is to get healthy - I don't believe he's suddenly forgotten how to pitch.
Mark P

Severino will get a lot of looks from teams (the Pirates are a good shout) as a low-cost rebound candidate.  Of course, just getting healthy is no guarantee, given how relatively little he has pitched in the last several years

What SP should the mets realistically go for this offseason, considering only 1-2 SP are good enough for next years rotation
Mark P
3:16
I'm hesitant to say that the Mets are going to dial things back entirely, since they're rumored to have interest in Yamamoto (who will cost a lot to sign).  So I could see them making a big long-term acquisition like that since they still want to be full-on contenders as early as 2025.  Then perhaps they pursue starters on shorter-term deals or with shorter-term control to fill out the rest of the rotation and add depth.

The Orioles haven't hit a dry spot for over a year. A look at their numbers isn't overwhelming to explain this. Great...was...pen. Good young players, any explanation?

I'm a broken record on this concept, but the Orioles are a great example of the high talent floor.  There are basically no bad players on the entire roster....some are better than others, obviously, and some are limited in particular ways.  But everyone has at least one clear MLB-level skill, everyone has some kind of role, and the O's haven't wasted playing time or at-bats on totally unproductive players.

What do you think of the Yanks buying low on Carlson and Senzel to throw into the CF and 3B mix next year.  Not to count on, but as possible upside candidates?
Mark P

They're decent bench/part-time options on a team that hopes to have their youngsters in bigger roles, so sure, add to the bench depth

Locks: Sherzer, Verlander, Kirshaw, Trout, Miggie, Freeman, Greinke On track: Altuve, Betts, Arenado, Goldschmit Who am I missing?
Mark P
3:23
You left off David Schneider, for one

Betts is pretty close to a lock for me.  Same with Altuve, unless the voters punish him for the Astros' cheating scandal.  Besides them, there's Judge, Harper, Votto, Wainwright, Jose Ramirez, Kimbrel, Gerrit Cole, etc. all are varying levels of "on pace" to at least borderline status
3:24
And obviously guys like Soto, Ohtani, Acuna, etc. who are still very early in their careers but are already building sterling resumes
Er, DAVIS Schneider.  How could I get that name wrong?!

On that note, it's time to wrap the chat up.  Thanks for all the questions, and we'll be back next weekend with another chat!
