I doubt they will be in on Ohtani, but do you think the Rays' apparent interest in Freeman was a legitimate signal they are willing to start getting into the deep end of the free agent market? Do you think they could go on a spending spree to christen the new ballpark like the Marlins did?

If they identify a guy as a special kind of player, it seems like the Rays will indeed be willing to splurge to some extent.  Obviously players like Freddie Freedman don't come around every year, but Tampa could stretch the budget in the right circumstance, especially now that this new ballpark is looking like almost a done deal

The outfield is a massive, massive issue for next year but if you sip the andres gimenez kool aid and with Laureano's rebound is there a chance of an october in Cleveland?

I'm always high on Cleveland's chances to contend because of their pitching.  Even with the rotation injuries last year, Bibee/Williams/Allen all pitching well would've given that team a chance if the lineup has been able to do anything.

Laureano I don't think will be a part of the mix, he seems more like a non-tender.  But getting at least one big bat for an everyday corner outfield role seems paramount.  Preferably two, with either Kwan moving to CF and Straw to the bench, or one of the corner outfielders can also get some DH time

Between Ramirez, the Naylors, maybe a Gimenez rebound (somewhere between his 2022 and 2023 numbers) and these hypothetical two new oufielders, the Guardians could suddenly make some noise at the plate

Do you think Moreno's process of "exploring a sale" last year was a way of getting a buyer lined up for this offseason once Ohtani signs elsewhere?

It's possible that some prospective buyers were hesitant due to not knowing whether or not Ohtani would still be on the team.  But, then again, you'd also think a potential owner would've just bought the team and taken the opportunity to pitch to Ohtani that things would be different under new management.

This seems like the most logical step for the O's to take, and for them it might be a question of which of their infielders are they lowest on.  Obviously Henderson and Holliday aren't going anywhere, but conceivably anyone else could be at least somewhat available
