Vlad for Fried ?
Mark P
8:27
Toronto isn't moving two years of Vlad for one year of Fried.  And the Braves would then have to move Ozuna somewhere, since Olson/Vlad would then have the 1B/DH spots on lock

Estimated cost of Nola?   How long?

Six years in the $170-$175MM range sounds feasible

Thanks for the chat. Do you think the Cards will release on of their three catchers (I.e. Knizner) or trade a prospect (Herrara).  I am assuming Contreras will be on the team and they won't keep 3 catchers on the roster.

Herrera may get a fourth option year, which would make this decision a lot easier for St. Louis

1st Ballot HOF for me?
Mark P

Yeah, probably not more than two years for Buster to get into the Hall

Do you think Baltimore trades Santander or hold on to him?
Mark P
8:34
My suspicion is that Santander or Hays are dealt this winter so the Orioles can make room for Kjerstad in the corner OF

Hi Mark, is MLB expansion into Canada practical (or desirable) at all? Thanks
Mark P
8:37
Montreal and Vancouver are the only feasible options for another team, and my guess is that a lot of US cities are simply ahead of them on the list of possible new expansion sites.  Everyone seems to see Nashville as a near-lock for one of the two (?) new teams that MLB might grant before the end of the decade, and cities like Charlotte, Portland, or Salt Lake City could all be ahead of Montreal

how did Kenny lofton get so little interest in the hall of fame
Mark P

Great question.  Vastly underrated player, and I think he was unfairly victimized by the ten-player ballot limit in a crowded era

What does it take to lock me down long term? And am I worth a long term deal with my low ceiling pop?
Mark P
8:41
Guards have probably at least had some talks with Kwan about an extension since that's just their style, but I'm not sure if he's necessarily a great pick for a long-term contract.  He has more upside than Straw as a long-term signing, but unfortunately the Guardians already made the mistake in locking Straw up to a significant (for them) amount of money

if brewers want/need to save money this year, what real reason do they have to tender woodruff a contract? Seems like most efficient thing to do is non tender him, then spread the money around and try to win. Is there something I'm missing?
Mark P
8:42
This might very well happen, but it's still a blow for the Brewers to potentially lose Woodruff for absolutely nothing, rather than a) trade him or b) at least get a draft pick back if he'd left in free agency
