Let's say Christian Bethancourt the position player puts up numbers comparable to what he did last year. Maybe his outfield defense improves to around average. If he can eat some innings as a mediocre reliever, something like an 85-95 ERA+, how much does that improve his value?
Jeffrey Todd

Would this make him more useful than Micah Owings? Unless he's catching, the bat has been pretty atrocious. But I do like the idea of him shedding the gear in the middle of an inning and taking the rubber.

Your guess for Fowler contract and destination?
Jeffrey Todd
2:24
I don't know that I have a team choice yet, but I like Dex at about 4/56-60

Does Josh Reddick signing make sense for Phillies? Or would it be too many years required to lock him up
Jeffrey Todd
2:26
He could be a plausible target. Not too old. Seems like the hard-working, rah-rah dugout type who could make sense on a rebuilding team. And probably won't break the bank.

What contract does Carlos Gomez get? 1/8?
Jeffrey Todd
2:26
If he goes for a one year deal, which seems fairly likely, I'd expect it to be for like double that.
2:27
Teams will spend more for a one year arrangement that fills a significant need -- no future payroll impact/long-term injury risk, possible QO, plenty of motivation for player.

Are the Nats in on Cespedes?
Jeffrey Todd
2:28
There's a path for that, yeah. Use Harper in CF and Turner at SS in 2017, then put Harper/Cespy in corners when Werth leaves after the season.
It's not the cleanest fit but there really arent any perfect matches.

When you sign someone like Aaron Barrett (elected FA over being outrighted) does the team who signs him just take on his current rookie deal?
Jeffrey Todd
2:29
He can sign for any amount -- he's a FA -- but if he ends up with a one-year deal he could simply be renewed after the season unless they negotiate something else into the contract.
Actually he'd likely be a Super Two if he spends the whole year in the majors, though that isn't particularly likely.

Any chance David Roberston gets moved this offsason? If so, where?
Jeffrey Todd
2:30
Yes. Lots of places. Giants/Nats, say, if they miss out on the top 3 FA relievers.
Other guys could become available: Wade Davis, KRod chief among them.

Is Colby Rasmus a good fit for the Ms?
Jeffrey Todd
2:32
Already have Leonys and Seth Smith as lefty OF bats.

What are the chances that Matt Holliday is the Red Sox DH next season?
Jeffrey Todd
2:33
Could see that fit. I can see Boston going for Encarnacion or chasing a veteran -- Holliday/Beltran -- as a pure DH. They could leave it open, too, but I'm not sure that's the best approach with a Big Papi-sized hole in the lineup.

Will twins have a more aggressive stance on international free agents with the new regime we are seeing assembled?
Jeffrey Todd
2:34
No idea, but the Twins have been pretty aggressive internationally I'd say.

Do the Indians or Cubs target Sean Doolittle this offseason looking towards a super-pen knowing the A's desperately need OF, and they both have plenty of fair 1-1 swaps (B. Zimmer, J. Soler) - or could Doo bring in more than that?
Jeffrey Todd
2:35
He's another guy that could be marketed. But man, I don't know that he brings back an asset quite that good. The contract is nice, but he's a huge injury risk.
2:36
Would be very interesting to see what he'd draw in a trade, I'll admit. Also I love Doolittle (in part b/c he went to my alma mater!)

Going back on your miller comment, Andrew Miller for Michael Conforto?
Jeffrey Todd
2:36
See?! Wouldn't something like that force the Indians to consider it?

Do the Mets get a closer
Jeffrey Todd
2:38
Well, they have two late-inning relievers who pitched well enough last year to serve as "closers," so I wouldn't call it a need. I'm sure they'd be interested in any good opportunities, especially to get a lefty, but others have more glaring needs.

Writers have been claiming that the Cards take the option on J. Garcia and use him as trade bait. Does he really hold enough value for a team to trade for him?
Jeffrey Todd
2:39
For a team to trade for him? Yes.
Enough for the Cards to pick up the option solely with intentions of trading him? Ehhh that's closer.
2:40
But I think he'd provide an easy depth piece for them as they enter the offseason and weigh the possibilities. So you pick up the option and see how things turn out, knowing you may end up dealing him.
I definitely think teams would have big interest in taking a one-year chance on him, in this pitching market.
2:41
He's also a guy you could end up sending in a deal to bring in a steady veteran at an area of need -- e.g. Brett Gardner.

Thoughts on Cespedes to Astros? Big hole in left, and he is friends with Gurriel?
Jeffrey Todd
2:42
They are one of several teams that could plausibly pursue him. Not sure it's my fav fit though, in part b/c they have Gurriel -- and Bregman.
