This could be said of prospects in general, not just Yankees prospects.

And, since it's the Festivus season, Frank Costanza has a few complaints about the prospects New York has dealt who blossomed elsewhere
Tigers Fan
8:09
Jon Herman mentioned the Tigers as a player in the Yoshinobu Yamamoto free agency. Do they actually have a chance, or do you think a big market team gets him.
Mark P
8:09
My guess is Dodgers, Giants, or one of the New York clubs.  The Tigers seem like a longshot at best.

Realistically, is there any chance Roki Sasaki plays in the MLB next season?
Mark P
8:10
If he actually has an out clause in his contract, then sure.  But I don't see why the Marines would agree to such a clause in the first place, or at least one that wouldn't trigger after more than only three seasons.

Or, if Sasaki had such a clause, why he wouldn't have enacted it earlier in the offseason
Jays Fan
8:11
Where the heck do the Jays go from here? Seems like for fans to be interested at all going into next season, they need to do something really big but there’s not much out there. I don’t see them landing Yamamoto and I’m not sure Bellinger is gonna cut it.
Mark P
8:12
Speaking as a Jays fan who always felt Ohtani was going to LA, even I got a little wrapped up in Friday's melodrama.  But really, missing Ohtani doesn't really alter the team's plans, since so much of the free agent and trade market has also been held up by Ohtani.
8:13
It is true that the Jays are fighting a perception battle, as a lot of fans are feeling very down on a team that (objectively) was still pretty good last year, and projects to still be pretty good in 2024.  The problem is that "pretty good" isn't seen as nearly good enough any more.

Will other teams now try using deferrals as a way to circumvent the CBT?
Mark P
8:14
The league has to approve deals with heavy deferrals involved, and while I don't think MLB will step in to void this signing or anything, it might be something the commissioner looks at in the future

Do you think the Orioles will make the "penthouse" move? This could include any deal that makes them a WS favorite. Trades, signings, waivers etc.

"What am I, chopped liver?!" -- Craig Kimbrel

The O's have the pieces for a blockbuster trade, but given how the team has operated with such caution, they have no reason at the moment to move multiple prospects for a single star, or something.  The Orioles are trying to position themselves for a lot of winning over the next decade plus, not just a big push in 2024
SC Nats Fan

Your thoughts on the Nationals winning the draft lottery… and picking 10.
Mark P
8:20
Those are the breaks.  It's exactly this kind of drama that the lottery was created for

Does Paul Blackburn begin the season with the A's?
Mark P
8:23
David Forst downplayed the idea of a Blackburn trade, and the A's don't really need to deal him any time soon.  If anything, waiting until the trade deadline might get a better return, if Blackburn pitches well in the first half and boosts his value

Chances of Tigers signing Imanaga?
Mark P
8:24
This signing seems a lot more realistic price-wise for Detroit than Yamamoto, even if Imanaga might be creeping closer to a nine-figure salary himself
Brandon
8:25
Blake Snell reportedly wants to be home in Seattle…..So why isn’t that done yet?
Mark P
8:26
  1. The Mariners apparently don't have much to spend
  2. Dipoto generally prefers trades over free agents, Robbie Ray notwithstanding
  3. Signing Snell would mean the M's are definitely trading another pitcher, which might lessen their leverage in trade talks
Post-Ohtani Market
8:26
Will Ohtani's larger-than-expected guarantee subsequently raise asking prices for remaining top free agents (Snell, Bellinger, etc)? Or is Ohtani too much of a unicorn to meaningfully affect asking prices going forward?
Mark P
8:27
It was such a singular situation that I think you're right, it's not going to suddenly mean that Juan Soto will be asking for $725MM next winter.
Actually wait, I probably shouldn't rule out Scott Boras wanting $725MM, haha

Will the Twins trade both of Kepler & Polanco?
Mark P
8:29
Feels like close to a lock that one will be dealt, though I'm not sure about both.  Minnesota needed every bit of their depth last season, so trading both guys might be risky, the payroll concerns notwithstanding

What else do the Dbacks need?  E-Rod seems like a good fit for them, Suarez is a bit sus due to age/strikeouts but worth a one-year flyer.
Mark P
8:31
D'Backs could use another bat, preferably a RHH like Mike Hazen has said is on the checklist.  I agree that Suarez isn't the most stable option in the world but he does represent an upgrade at third base.

I really liked that E-Rod signing for Arizona, he's a great fit for their rotation.
George
8:32
Dbacks signed Eduardo Rodrigues, do you think now they have one of the best rotations on the MLB?
Mark P
8:32
Pump the brakes, I didn't like the signing THAT much.  But Gallen/Kelly/E-Rod is a very nice top three, and Pfaadt is a good #4 if he continues the development he showed in the playoffs
Dave Dombrowski
8:34
Let's assume I'm willing to cash in any/all of my top prospects in a moonshot trade to acquire the best, most impactful player I can possibly get for the Phillies. Who should I target?
Mark P
8:35
Among players who might realistically be traded?

Luis Robert
Guardians
8:35
Do the Guardians make any moves this year to benefit our team? Or is it just another sad offseason?
Mark P
8:37
As I said earlier, I doubt they'd move Naylor this offseason unless another team (be it Seattle, Pittsburgh, Chicago, anyone) makes a really bonkers offer.

Bieber is very likely being traded, ideally for a hitter.  Maybe I'm just a consistent optimist when it comes to Cleveland, but I don't think the Guards are all that far off from getting back into contention.  They need another couple of bats, but the pitching is still there
Joe Louis
8:39
What would my Tigers need to do the rest of this off season to be serious contenders for the ALC crown this off season.
Mark P
8:40
As much as Detroit doesn't necessarily want to block its infield prospects, their chances of contending would improve if they added a proven veteran into the mix.

Part of me does wonder if part of the reason we're hearing so much hype about Keith and Jung is because the Tigers might be quietly trying to pump up their trade value, but that is purely speculative on my part

I know that this isn’t baseball related, but I also heard that you’re a packers fan! I am one too. In fact, I have been a yankees and packers fan for all my life. I am going to see the game against the Giants tomorrow. Let’s hope Jordan Love and the team continues with this hot streak!!
Mark P
8:42
The Packers' hot streak has been a very pleasant surprise.  They looked like just about the worst team in football six weeks ago.

What are you hearing about the Bucs? Could they get Naylor? Also, hearing that they are looking for pitching in a trade. Maybe a a trade with Seattle or Miami? They need a 1st baseman and pitching!
