Grissom can also be an option at 3B, if/when Devers is moved over into a 1B/DH role.  So that could free up second base for one of the prospects

What’s the real reason the Mets seem to be passing on 2024? Are they waiting till the salaries of Verlander and Scherzer are off the books? Is that the only reason?

I think the Mets are giving Stearns some time to do what he wants to do with the organization, and not insisting on a win-now approach or going nuts with more big acquisitions.

Cohen has been quite clear that his long-term goal is to have the Mets be a prospect-generating organization that can augment that young talent with big-money adds (i.e. the Dodgers).  His splurges in the last couple of years was an attempt to see if the Mets could steal a championship even before that preferred prospect pipeline was in place.

Bob Gibson isn't "underrated" by any means, yet it doesn't seem like a lot of people have him in the very top tier of all-time pitchers.  He was awesome!

Does Christian Yelich have some trade value again? Re-established himself a bit with a nearly 4 WAR season, contract isn't really outrageous at this point.

It wouldn't be shocking to see Yelich moved, but I think most teams would prefer to see more than one good season before taking the plunge on taking most (?) of that contract
