I tend to think the QO system benefits bigger-spending organizations.
Zack Cozart
2:53
Guess I'm not going to Seattle.... Where am I going Jeff?
Jeffrey Todd
2:53
Nats or Padres?
Grant
2:53
What sort of return could Matt Adams bring the Cardinals?
Jeffrey Todd
2:53
Not much. He really hasn't been that exciting at all at the plate.
David
2:54
What do you see the Giants doing with their outfield?
Jeffrey Todd
2:55
I kinda like them to add a slugger who isn't really a defensive gem. They did somehow stomach Michael Morse out in left.
AJ
2:55
Is Wade Davis going back on the trade block after the Big 3 relievers sign?
Jeffrey Todd
2:56
Don't see why he wouldn't be marketed as an alternative, rather than a backup plan. I'd expect they'll set a high price for him and only deal if it's met (regardless of when that happens).
Chris Sale
2:56
Should I start house hunting in SoCal, Georgia or some where else?
Jeffrey Todd
2:57
It's wide open from my perspective. Lots of teams are probably gauging cost and considering alternatives. He's the type of player where it doesn't have to be a fit, per se.
Rangers guy
2:57
Does Profar stay put? I think we should package him to Tampa for another starter.
Jeffrey Todd
2:58
They seem high on him, and I don't know that the rest of the league really is. There isn't a lot of demand for middle infielders right now, and he didn't hit much last year. Just three years of control.
The Rays, in particular, already dealt a starter to get Duffy and have Forsythe at second. (Though he could be dealt.)
Joe
2:58
Do you see Adam walker as a future bug leaguer? Milwaukee just got him off waivers...
Jeffrey Todd
2:59
I wonder if they end up moving Carter and trying him at first. He'll probably get a chance there at some point.
Jerry Dipoto
2:59
Johann Santana a viable comeback option?
Jeffrey Todd
2:59
It's been quite a while, and he always ends up hurt, but then again Rich Hill exists.
Todd
3:00
Giants able to sign both melancon and fowler or just one of the two?
Jeffrey Todd
3:01
Hard to say, but they do have a lot committed for the next several years. Starts to get risky adding those types -- both of whom ought to cost over $50MM.
Ryan
3:02
How many years til the Yankees are willing to dump Ellsbury and eat his salary?
Jeffrey Todd
3:02
Like, cut him outright? Don't see why they'd do that. They are largely stuck with him at this point, but it's not as if he isn't worth a roster spot.
Todd
3:03
Why are teams allowed to give QO's to the same player two off seasons in a row? Ian Desmond is basically being punished for working his butt off and being a great all around play. They need to change that rule in the next cba
Jeffrey Todd
3:03
That'd be a sensible modification, among many others. But it seems the system could be going away altogether. We'll see!
JDB
3:03
Where does Matt Holiday land? Any chance he comes back to the Cardinals as a backup?
Jeffrey Todd
3:04
He still makes some sense on the roster, but not if you have Carpenter as the regular 1B, which is the plan. All indications are STL said its goodbyes.
3:05
Otherwise, I could imagine a fit with the Rockies, Mets, Indians, Orioles, Rangers ... maybe Astros, Nats, Mariners.
Possible to see a lot of destinations still.
3:06
Basically, anyone who likes his bat, wants a solid veteran, and can find 400-ish PA between corner OF/1B/DH.
Ricky
3:06
Newcomb, Albies, Touki, Fried and Ruiz/Riley for Sale enough or pretty close?
Jeffrey Todd
3:07
Now that package would largely depend on the Sox' evaluation of Albies and Newcomb, b/c I think they'd want guys who are going onto the big league roster more or less. From my perspective, they're not likely to just take a pure prospect package. This one is arguably that, unless CHW is high on those two and thinks they are ready.
3:08
Ruiz could be too, I suppose. Seems plausible enough, but I really don't feel like I have a firm grasp on what they are truly focused on.
Brobib
3:09
I've never gotten a question answered by any of you
Jeffrey Todd
3:09
Now you have! Lots of people here, somewhat surprisingly.
Ian
3:11
Who's ur favorite second tier reliever that could provide some good value?
Jeffrey Todd
3:11
Maybe Koji Uehara. Guy was mostly himself last year.
Tim
3:11
I am out!!!! My questions never make the board. It's a waste of my time.
Jeffrey Todd
3:11
You and hundreds of others. Sorry, it's the nature of the process.
Spencer
3:12
Adams had an OPS+ of 105 last year, don't you think he can be a 2-3 WAR player as a full time 1B in somewhere like Colorado?
Jeffrey Todd
3:12
Slightly above-average bat at the weakest defensive position in the game doesn't make for an above-average everyday guy.
