Peralta is a grounder specialist whose value is tied in large part to BABIP, given his lack of strikeouts and (last year) his suddenly dire walk rate.  Peralta got a lot of BABIP luck last season, as his 4.44 SIERA was way higher than his 2.83 ERA
While he'll land somewhere, it's not a shock that Peralta is still available as we enter late January

Why do you think it is that the Pirates are having such a hard time attracting free agents? Are they not making competitive offers? Is it the losing culture? Is it the lack of recent success?

It's becoming harder and harder to remain a fan of this team when it seems like everything is against them.

Only the Pirates (and agents, I guess) know how much money the team is offering, so I don't know if it's a case where they're getting outbid or what.  If all things are equal money-wise, it could be that some of their targets preferred to join teams that have a better shot at contending in 2024.
Or, if the Pirates are targeting players who haven't signed yet, those players are still holding out for attention from a contender before deciding on Pittsburgh as a backup plan

When the Mets signed Lindor to a 10 year $241M extension people called it an overpay but the last 2 years he has put up 5.5 & 6 bWAR…. Is he now a bargain at the price?

It was 10 years and $341MM, not $241MM

And "bargain" may be a stretch, but Lindor's deal has certainly worked out for the Mets to date.

If Snell indeed wants $30MM in AAV, I wonder if a team offers him such a deal but with a more limited timeframe.  Maybe five guaranteed years, and then with a vesting option for a sixth or seventh year?

Perry Minasian flat out said last month that Trout absolutely wasn't being traded.  Didn't even couch it with any "well, we consider all offers, but..." hedging, but just a total denial that Trout was being moved.

So unless something has happened in the last six weeks (Trout demands a deal, or Moreno authorizes a move), it isn't happening

The Phillies might have some extra money to spend, but not that much.  All reports indicate that the Phils were targeting Nola and Yamamoto, but no other top-tier starters

I think they're still in pretty good shape, given the rest of the division.  The Reds have improved on paper, but everyone else is still a work in progress to varying degrees.
