Why do all the predictions connect Indians to free agent Outfielders? With Brantley coming back, do they really need anyone?
Jeffrey Todd
3:14
Brantley is a big question mark, as are several of their other remaining pieces (for different reasons). It's a clear place for them to seek an upgrade, I think.
Yankees
3:15
Gardner for Wacha who says no?
Jeffrey Todd
3:15
Hmm that's kind of intriguing as a framework. I still find it a bit hard to believe that STL has soured on Wacha as much as their reporters seem to be suggesting, though.
3:16
I do like the Cards to swap a SP for an OF, and for the Yankees to swap Gardner for a SP.

3:16
What do you believe the Padres will do for SS? Stop gap until a minor leaguer is ready or sign someone long term?
Jeffrey Todd
3:16
Unless they decide to make a move for Cozart or Espinosa, anyone they'd sign would be a stopgap. Nothing doing in the SS market.
Mike B
3:16
How many years do you expect Beltran to sign for?
Jeffrey Todd
3:17
1 or 2, depending mostly upon whether he wants to commit to multiple years and whether he has a strong preference on location.
Adonis Garcia
3:17
Why am I not loved by Braves fans?
Jeffrey Todd
3:17
B/c you aren't that good. I always thought they overvalued you, though?
3:18
Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with just throwing him out there, but if they are serious about contending now, they'd be looking to improve. (And probably are, at the right price.)

Really? You'd rather have Joc than Britton? I checked Joc's stats...... not sure what I should be impressed with. His .227 BA over the last 2 years or the fact he has hit at least 25 HRs the last 2 years but fails to drive in 70 runs. But hey.... he has a good OBP at .350. I'd say that would be rock solid if he was an above average fielder...... but he isn't. Britton on the other hand has become a premiere closer..... heading into his age 29 season. I'd take the closer all day and then sign Fowler.
Jeffrey Todd
3:19
I love Britton. Love him. But Joc hit well above league average (129 OPS+) and plays a good CF.
Austin

Trea Turner for Sonny Gray and Stephen Vogt. Who hangs up?
Jeffrey Todd
3:20
That's wildly unrealistic, sorry. No way from Nats perspective.
Great Job

About how many questions do you get during one of these Live Chats?
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
Thousands of people in here today. Not sure on questions.
But more than that.
Er, more than the number of guests.

3:21
Were you surprised the Astros signed Aoki instead of non-tendering him at this point?
Jeffrey Todd
3:22
Not necessarily. If they think they are getting a big bat that doesn't play the OF, he's a solidly-priced part-time guy to throw out there. He's not even quite getting market price for a strong 4th OF, which has been more like 2/12 (give or take 2 mil) of late.

Gardner for Gio who says no? That is the one that made sense to me but maybe not with Mccutcheon
Jeffrey Todd
3:23
My feeling is there's a solid framework there, but not enough desire -- esp from the Nats -- to strike an early deal. Kinda like how the Nats shipped Storen for Revere later on last year. Waited to see if something else came up.
O's fan
3:23
Where do you think Trumbo ends up?
Jeffrey Todd
3:24
I'm on the O's. Don't see a great match anywhere else.
Okay folks, I'm going to be wrapping it up here shortly.

Could McCutchen and Glasnow for Quintana framework interest White Sox? Or is McCutchen just not a descent fit there?
Jeffrey Todd
3:25
Not really a fit, IMO.

3:25
Is Ender Inciarte a sneaky OF target for Toronto for LF?
Jeffrey Todd
3:25
His value is in center. Kind of a Pillar clone with a bit more bat.

are we in the golden age of young shortstops?
seager, machado, lindor, correa, and russell are all under the age of 25
Jeffrey Todd
3:26
Among others. Turner, Bregman, Xander, etc. Though it's interesting you mention Manny. It is an amazing time for SS.
Mike

Ryan Zimmerman: Bounce back candidate? Or done?
Jeffrey Todd
3:26
He hit the ball hard. Could still be a useful hitter. But not optimal to have him locked in at first.
Roxy Ditloff
3:27
What is Charlie Blackmon's worth if McCutchen fetches Robles and Lopez?
Jeffrey Todd
3:27
1) I am not willing to assume Cutch fetches that til it happens. Still feels steep. 2) I was talking about just this with Steve earlier. I guess on the whole I see the two as similarly valued assets. Both with some risk, neither a great defender, same age.
Jmac
3:28
What kind of return would the Reds need to trade Billy Hamilton or Anthony Desclafani?
Jeffrey Todd
3:28
Not sure, but DeSclafani seems an under the radar trade candidate.
KCJ58
3:28
Didn't Storen get traded for Benoit?
