How do you foresee the Yankees managing their apparent outfield logjam? (assuming Stanton is the primary DH, wishful thinking?)
Mark P
9:03
Injuries are inevitable, so the logjam will settle itself
O Fo Sho
9:03
Orioles should extend their current players now including Burnes if possible.
Mark P
9:04
I don't think we'll see anything of this ilk until the new owners actually take over, but it does seem likely that Rubenstein's group will be more open to extensions and locking up this core than the Angelos family was

Quite a week for Baltimore fans, eh?
Right Field Rob
9:05
Seems like Matt Chapman to SFG is inevitable, negotiations with Boras dragging out so they don’t bid against themselves.  Fair summary?
Mark P
9:07
The Cubs also make sense as a Chapman suitor, so it's not like the market is bare.  Boras would never in a million years reveal this in public, but it would be fascinating to learn how an agent handles balancing acts like having multiple clients (Chapman, Bellinger, and for the Giants Snell and Montgomery) all in the running among a small group of teams.

9:11
Bigger bounce back candidate with the A’s: Stripling or Wood?
Mark P
9:12
I kind of hope it's Stripling just because this new pitch he's learned (the "Deathball") has such an awesome name
Q-Man
9:14
Tired of Boras and the waiting game. And it’s hard not to look at a lot of his clients and believe it’s not about the money.  When is it fair to assess whether these players want to win or are really about who gets paid?
Mark P
9:16
I don't begrudge players for wanting to maximize their earnings on what be might only chance at a huge free agent mega-deal.

Also, this narrative about free agents in general and particularly Boras clients is a little old.  For instance, Bryce Harper was allegedly "all about the money" for waiting until deep into February to sign with the Phillies, and now Harper is the toast of baseball as a gritty team leader.

Can you please use your powers to help me prove that Coffin Flop is a legitimate hit and these calls for the dropping of Corn Cob TV are preposterous?
Mark P
9:16
I've waited for a long time for a hit on Corncob TV!

Hey Mark, I really wanted to hate the mariners because their owner cares more about profits than investing in the team but I really like the last 2 moves they did, are they going to actually complete with the Rangers and Astros? Or are they getting my hopes again and they will finish 4th in the division?
Mark P
9:20
If it makes you feel better, something would have to go very drastically wrong for the Mariners to finish behind the Angels and A's

Seattle's offseason has been pretty decent overall, and perhaps even good considering the perception that this lack of spending room seems to have foisted upon the front office somewhat last-minute

Altuve, Bregman, Tucker, Framber…with 1 being most likely and 4 being not, what is the order of likeliest extensions for Houston?
Mark P
9:23
  1. Altuve
  2. Valdez
  3. Tucker
  4. Bregman

Altuve seems pretty safe as the face of the franchise.  Valdez will be entering his age-32 season in free agency, so the age range might work out where he's open to a deal within the Astros' preferred six-year window
9:24
Bregman feels like he's walking after this season, and Tucker might go too when he's a free agent, unless Houston is willing to stretch beyond six years

9:24
Who do you think will finish first in the AL east?
Mark P
9:24
Baltimore was my pick even before they got Burnes
They call me Dad
9:25
Who’s had the better offseason, the Royals or the Cardinals?
Mark P
9:28
This is a great question, as I think the answer is Kansas City within the context of what the two teams were trying to do.  St. Louis was trying to get on track and return to contention, while the Royals were just trying to "get better," so they had theoretically an easier road to travel.

However, I wonder how many Cards fans would've preferred Lugo and Wacha to Gibson/Lynn as rotation fixes. Obviously Sonny Gray is maybe enough to give the Cards the nod in the overall debate, but it's close.
I too am a neat guy
9:29
Being that braves will lose pitching next yr. One might conclude they are higher on the list of teams to get a deal with woodruff, no?
Mark P
9:31
Possible, though the Braves are hoping that one of Smith-Shawver or Waldrep steps into one of the spots vacated by Morton (if he retires) or Fried (if he signs elsewhere).  Plus we don't know how the Reynaldo Lopez experiment might turn out, or if any of Vines, Ynoa, or Dodd could emerge into the picture
The Braves also have an advantage in that any number of players might be willing and eager to sign short-term deals on that team
David
9:31
Would Mets move Beaty or vientos?
Mark P
9:32
Probably unlikely any time soon, given their goal of taking an evaluation year
Tim
9:33
Mark what’s your thoughts on twins signing Santana.
Mark P
9:33
Pretty decent move, especially since Santana might just be needed for a part-time role

Cliffnotes version of how thew Tigers win the Central this year. It seems mildly probable at least
Mark P
9:35
The young guys all stay healthy and play well, Keith has a solid rookie season, Canha continues to hit like he did in Milwaukee, and Maeda stays off the IL and help stabilize the rotation.

That recipe might be all the Tigers need in a relatively weak division.  Obviously it would help if, say, Baez suddenly got back to his old Cubs form.
Steve
9:38
Hey Mark, one team from each league that missed the playoffs last year that will make them this year?
Mark P
9:38
Yankees, Reds
Tim
9:39
What other managers besides Marmol are on the hot seat?
Mark P
9:39
John Schneider's job could be in serious trouble if the Jays have a slow start
Chev Chelios
9:40
Duran, Foscue, White,& Harris for Cease & Jimenez
Mark P
9:40
Given Chicago's asking prices, they'd want that for Cease alone
Giants
9:40
Giants management and ownership have both stated they are probably "done" with the rotation.  What are the odds this is a ploy?
Mark P
9:42
Very high.  Snell or Montgomery could possibly be just around the corner, since SF's rotation has even more question marks now than it did at the start of the offseason
Pirate Parrot
9:43
Cueto or Kluber to the Pirates?  They'd make the opening day rotation and could get flipped at the deadline if (when) they're not contending.
Mark P
9:44
That could work, though after Gonzales and Perez, you'd think Pittsburgh would want a third new pitcher to provide more stability
