Does Jose Abreu have any trade value in this market flush with 1b/dh's?
Jeffrey Todd
2:55
Yes but not as much as they'd hope. Biggest thing is there seems to be legit questions as to just how good a hitter he is. Teams can take much smaller gambles on other bats, so don't expect them to make bigger bet on Abreu. But not out of the realm of possibility.

Does Profar really play super utility again for the rangers or does som team pony up and trade for him to play SS?
Jeffrey Todd
2:56
Nobody really needs a SS too badly, except the Padres, who I guess could part with some other assets to get him. Obviously, there's the Preller connection.

Do the Cardinals trade Matt Adams?
Jeffrey Todd
2:56
@jcrasnick
now
The #STLCards are in listening mode on Matt Adams, sources say. He's a change of scenery candidate with Matt Carpenter set to play 1B.
Good timing!
I think yes.

Hey Jeff, thanks for answering our questions.
Who are the Orioles going to get for RF, in your opinion?
Jeffrey Todd
2:57
If they legitimately have interest in Trumbo at ~$60MM, or whatever was rumored, I'll guess they match up there -- b/c I don't expect he'll get that elsewhere.
2:58
Obviously would be best to see him at first base, but at least they'd be able to use him at the DH some -- esp down the line.

Chats are super awesome to take a break from finals week!

Good call, but also go take a walk man! Stretch those legs and get some fresh air in your lungs.

Mariners need another Starting Pitcher.... best guess of who.
Jeffrey Todd
2:59
I like them for Hammel, seems a solid place for him. Otherwise, a Buchholz type via trade? Heck, I wonder if the Sox would have interest in Seth Smith.

Is Braun going to be traded or does he finish his contract in Milwaukee?
Jeffrey Todd
3:00
Might just be a question whether the Dodgers want him enough to get the Brewers to move. His NTC limits things quite a bit.
(This winter, at least. Beyond ... who knows?)

Do you see brett Gardner being traded and if so where?
Jeffrey Todd
3:01
Not so much at this point, though obviously Cashman acknowledged it was possible. Always felt the best chance was a team that wanted to use him in CF who could offer a veteran SP. Like the Nats and Cards. But those spots are filled.
3:02
BTW, I love that Cashman just acknowledges stuff to the press that other GMs would never touch. "Yeah, we talked to him," etc.

any chance the Dodgers could pry Villar from Brewers? If so what kind of package would it take/
Jeffrey Todd
3:02
I do still like Villar as a somewhat forgotten trade piece, but expect MIL will put a big ask. He's cheap and had such a nice year that they have no reason to settle.

Why haven't the names of Nate Jones and Melky Cabrera been tossed out as very attractive White Sox clearance items.
Jeffrey Todd
3:03
Jones won't be a clearance item. He's a really good pitcher with attractive contract terms.
But Melky does seem like a solid candidate if the Sox are willing to eat some cash, etc.

Hi

Hello, D dawg.

To those putting me down for the Eaton trade where I gave up "all the good pitching prospects" - c'mon down, Brad Peacock and Tommy Milone, the "can't miss prospects" I traded the last time I did this....
Jeffrey Todd
3:04
There are some execs who've earned the benefit of the doubt. He's one.
Even attributing good value to the prospects, I think it's a fair value deal. Eaton would be worth 6/120 or more (7/140?) in FA, I'd guess. Just turned 28.

Why has JD Martinez not been dealt yet? Too high of asking price? What kind of prospect does it take?
Jeffrey Todd
3:05
It's a funny spot. If they don't do a full tear-down, or can't get a really nice offer for him, then maybe they are better off just letting the year play out. There's still the trade deadline, and QO as a back-up. And it's not like there's no shot at the postseason.
3:06
(Obviously, at this point, seems there won't be a true firesale. Unlike the White Sox, there are complications with many of their veterans, including huge contracts.)

How are the cubs going to handle Schwarber/Contreras? If you had to guess how do see them breaking out the C playing time?
Jeffrey Todd
3:07
Both can play OF, though of course it's crowded out there as well. Really no idea how much they'll use Schwarber behind the plate yet.
Obviously the Cubs prize flexibility and depth, and I expect there'll be a lot of day-to-day changes, efforts to ease off of guys who are injured, play match-ups, etc.

will billy hamilton get traded?
Jeffrey Todd
3:08
Unlikely. Just not enough clear demand. You'd need a team like the A's to just decide they really, really like him and are willing to do something to move the needle for the Reds.

Thoughts on how these relievers are getting paid?
