Last chat of the year!
Hit me with some questions and we'll get rolling shortly.

Any news on the Mariners trying to add starting pitching?
Jeffrey Todd
2:18
Nothing really new on that front. Expect they are still looking for value. I still like the match with Hammel.
Zach
2:18
What veteran pitcher being coveted by the Padres is the best fit?
Jeffrey Todd
2:19
I mean, I don't know. All these guys have major concerns; otherwise, they wouldn't be available at the expected prices. It's easy to like the match with Peavy from a marketing standpoint, and he might have something left in the tank. But the best one-year guys have already ended up in Atlanta and Philly.
Dodgers
2:19
Does Dozier end up a Dodger for the 2017 season or do they just look elsewhere?
Jeffrey Todd
2:19
I'll guess that something gets done.

Does Melky Cabrera going back to Toronto or San Fran via trade seem possible give their LF needs? I assume San Fran bridge is burned for him?
Jeffrey Todd
2:21
I have no idea whether SF would consider him, but I've long thought that Melky should get more attention as a trade candidate. He's not that old, not that expensive, and was really good offensively last year.
Aaron
2:21
Are the Cubs favorites to land Tyson Ross?
Jeffrey Todd
2:22
I don't see why they would necessarily be the favorite. He ought to prioritize rotation opportunity and the best circumstances for getting a guarantee while making it back to the market. That could come from CHC or lots of other teams.
Just b/c they have pursued him before doesn't mean they are especially interested right now.

If Harper has another down year in 2017, do you still think he'd be in line for a huge payday? I'm talking, like, 400MM+
Jeffrey Todd
2:23
Well, he has two more years before free agency, but if 2016 becomes his norm, then no, I don't think he'll be breaking any records. He'd still likely end up making quite a bit of money, b/c he's young, has the upside, and would (in our hypothetical world) still be a very good player.

Also - thoughts on desmond at 1b?
Jeffrey Todd
2:24
Don't get it.
But if it's really just one year, and they value his flexibility and athleticism in other areas in the future ...
2:25
yeah I still don't get it.

Nats closer: Who is it going to be?
Jeffrey Todd
2:26
At this point, it's Kelley v Treinen camp battle. Could see those two and Solis sharing duties.
2:27
Will they add someone else? I don't know. Probably will do something in the pen regardless, and that may well be a signing of someone with closing experience (Casilla, Romo, even a guy like Nathan). I don't think they feel it's strictly necessary to add a true Closer right now at any cost. Can always wait and see til trade deadline.

The W Sox got a lot for Sale and Eaton. Are teams affraid to deal with the Sox due to a huge asking price or the fear that they collect too many top prospects? Or is that just crazy talk?
Jeffrey Todd
2:27
That's just crazy talk.
2:28
A) if those were truly huge returns ... well, they got 'em b/c teams weren't afraid to talk. B) returns on one trade really have nothing to do with others, and I generally reject all talk of "if they got X for [not really comparable player A] then they'll get Y for [other player]"
2:29
C) I doubt the rest of baseball is concerned that the White Sox are a budding juggernaut ... this is all just part of the ebb and flow

Is there any chance Colorado signs someone like Brandon Moss and trades Blackmon or Gonzalez to get some pitching
Jeffrey Todd
2:29
There should be.
Will
2:29
Are the reds really not gonna sign a major league free agent?
Jeffrey Todd
2:29
Expect they will. Plenty of time left.

Does Quintana ultimately get moved to the Pirates or do you seem someone else coming in to scoop him up? He'll probably cost 2 really good prospects + considering his age and contract right?
Jeffrey Todd
2:30
I don't see why he's destined for any particular club. There seems to be a solid match there, but you could easily see a fit with just about any contending team.
2:31
As for the return, Quintana is very valuable and will get a big return, and it doesn't matter if you want to label him an "ace," a "#2," etc, etc. He's a really good pitcher on a great contract.

Markakis back to the Orioles if ATL eats half the $$?
Jeffrey Todd
2:31
Nobody really wants him all that much, IMO.
Moose
2:32
Are the Phillies a fit for Greg Holland? They could offer a ton of money with the chance to win the closer's spot in the bullpen for this (and next) year.
Jeffrey Todd
2:32
I mean, sure. So are lots of other teams. But I could imagine that, esp if Holland isn't getting the kind of $/opportunity he wants with a contender.

Excluding Mike Trout, what player do you feel has the highest celling of all players currently in MLB?
