Interesting extension candidate, but no reason for him to take a huge discount unless he really wants to avoid the risk of another full season behind the plate. Which is possible.

Why didn't you include Machado as one of the top?
Jeffrey Todd
3:09
He'd also be a fair name to include on that list, yeah.
Zac

If Theo called Jake right now and said 4 for 90, you think Jake hangs up or says draw it up?
Jeffrey Todd
3:10
Think Jake says no to that. Age is a limiting factor, but if he has too much upside and even downside protection (barring catastrophic injury) to take that, I think.
Remember what Samardzija signed for after a terrible season.

3:11
Dozier for DeLeon and Buehler should be a fair trade right?
Jeffrey Todd
3:11
I think the Twins could reasonably hold out for that, and the Dodgers could reasonably decline to offer that.
It's a solid match between the orgs, but if their valuations don't quite line up, I can see both holding their ground.

What is your opinion of the oxford comma?

Seth Smith

Where's the love for me this year? Where will I be on opening day?
Jeffrey Todd
3:13
He's a pretty neutral value player. Nice that it's just a one-year commitment. But I wouldn't expect him to return anything exciting.
Still lots of possible landing spots. Really depends on Seattle's motivation, b/c I think teams will believe they can get comparable players at comparable prices without giving up anything in trade value.

Think Scooter gen is a spring trade candidate?
Jeffrey Todd
3:14
Maybe, but he's just not that valuable a player. Platoon second baseman in a market that doesn't have much demand at the position.
There's a reason he took a good bit less than his arb projection -- otherwise, probably would've been non-tendered, and he wasn't sure he'd do as well in FA.

Gattis is a cabaple catcher, struggled a bit with some pass balls but threw well. Although streaky with the bat he's a similar hitter to Trumbo, I don't know why people act like he can't hit, or doesn't have value.
Jeffrey Todd
3:15
He did frame well. But as I said, if the Astros really believe in him behind the plate, and still think he can hit (which is why they dealt for him in the first place), then why would they trade him?

3:16
If Cueto has another typical Cueto year, does he opt out or is a contending Giants team enough to keep him through the contract?
Jeffrey Todd
3:16
Opt out unless he reaches an extension or something. Would be no reason not to if he's his usual self.
Gang Albanii
3:17
What's the situation like with Cj Wilson? Will he ever come back to being a regular starter?
Jeffrey Todd
3:17
Old, hurt. That's roughly the situation. Odds are against that.
3:18
I mean, he's my age. Old in baseball years but otherwise full of youthful vigor.
Big papa pump

You said tbe Cubs are "lurking" on some arms what as are those?
Jeffrey Todd
3:19
I said I'd guess they are. No specific knowledge beyond what has been reported. But I'd expect they have interest in improving the rotation, especially if it means adding a controllable arm.
Chris M.
3:19
Will King Felix rebound this season or should Dipoto consider moving him for younger arms?
Jeffrey Todd
3:19
Seattle is going to find that out for itself. Not a very likely trade candidate at all, for a lot of reasons.
Albert Pujols

What happened to my plate discipline?
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
See above re CJ Wilson.

Who plays LF for the Giants this year?
Jeffrey Todd
3:22
I really don't know how to handicap that. They could well hold pat. Indications from their beat writers have been that they feel like the offseason is largely complete. But plenty of different solid value scenarios could still arise.

Carlos Gonzalez for Jake Odorizzi, who hangs up first?
Jeffrey Todd
3:23
Rays. CarGo just isn't that valuable IMO.

Steve Adams posted about the Rangers having "informal" talks with Jonathan Lucroy's agents about an extension. Is 5 years/$100 million in the neighborhood of what it'd take?
Jeffrey Todd
3:24
I haven't really sat down and thought about that, but that sounds like a fairly reasonable guess.
3:25
He could conceivably earn more in FA, but there's a solid chance he wouldn't if he has a rough year or the concussion issue comes back.
Brian

Is a Mitch Haniger slash line of: 270/340/485 in 450 AB's unreasonable?
Jeffrey Todd
3:25
Anything is possible but that sounds awfully optimistic.

Jeff your Oakland is not in a rebuild statement makes no sense since over 1/2 the team has less than 2 year experience?
