Is the Royals window gone?
Jeffrey Todd
2:52
Probably. It's not inconceivable, because they are the Royals and baseball is baseball, but I'm not optimistic.

Wouldn't it be easier for mlbtr to only report the days that David Rollins DOESN'T get Claimed/Waived?
Jeffrey Todd
2:53
Hey, that stuff is gold to a MLBTR writer when we're going two weeks without a MLB deal!
But yes, we should have been doing daily posts during that time just to fill out some content.

Bautista to Boston 1 year to be the DH, 10 million, another 6 million based on plate appearances and home runs hit. Cant recieve a QO next offseason.... What do you think?
Jeffrey Todd
2:54
Sounds fun. No indication that's remotely in the cards, but I don't totally buy that Boston is just done with the offseason. Don't see why they couldn't add a reasonably significant hitter/third baseman.

Why have the Giants not considered Trumbo? Could Belt play LF?
Jeffrey Todd
2:55
Well, you'd obviously rather not play either of those guys in the outfield. But the Giants did have Michael Morse out there. No indication of interest in Trumbo, though, and it's a pretty strained fit.

Any chance Nick Senzel plays for Cincy in 2017?
Jeffrey Todd
2:56
Eh, no reason to rush him, start his clock, etc when they already have guys to sort out in the infield. But if they end up dealing Phillips at the deadline and Senzel is raking, who knows?

Will Greg Holland accept a set up role for a contender?
Jeffrey Todd
2:57
I'd assume his goals include getting paid now, setting himself up for the future, playing for a contender, and perhaps some geographic preference (he's from NC, though I have no idea how much that would matter to him).
So, sure. I dont' see a particular reason for him to hold out for a closer's role, though maybe that matters to him. All guesswork since there's no real reporting suggesting he has a strong preference among the factors I mentioned (other than the first two, at least).

Is John Lackey basically a back end rotation guy at best? I look at his age and numbers and just don't expect a ton? Could get get bullpen duty if a Tyson Ross shows up?
Jeffrey Todd
2:59
I mean, he was pretty danged good last year, though you are right to temper expectations. If he struggles, all bets are off, but I'm legitimately excited at the prospect of seeing how he reacts to being ordered to the pen.

Are the White Sox asking too much for Quintana...?
Jeffrey Todd
2:59
Nope

when does the full fire sale in KC begin?
Jeffrey Todd
2:59
Think they'll see how the first half goes and assess then.

Texas bound?
Jeffrey Todd

Makes sense, but obviously they haven't blown his socks off with an offer.

Is Martes, Tucker, Franklin Perez and Ramon Laureano a fair trade for Quintana?
Jeffrey Todd
3:01
I can imagine the White Sox wanting that and the Astros not wanting to give it up. But yeah sounds like the right range.
3:02
I just don't understand why some people aren't sold on Q's value. Great, great contract for a really good pitcher who is still pretty young and hasn't had a blip in the majors.

Team who didn't make the playoffs last year who will make it in 2017?
Jeffrey Todd
3:02
Astros are a pretty easy choice there, Another Jeff.

Do you collect baseball cards? If so, what is your best/favorite card?
Jeffrey Todd
3:03
I used to buy packs as a kid and then bought old cards on eBay as a teenager. Personal favorite is my Carl Furillo rookie card!

Why is this offseason moving so slow? Are you surprised by how deep the list is of names still on the board?
Jeffrey Todd
3:04
It has happened before, and the CBA talks played a role. If you look at what's left, you see multiple similar types of players (a few lefty relievers, some late-inning righties, defensively limited sluggers). So, it makes sense that teams and agents/players are engaged in a sort of standoff.
Josh
3:06
are you surprised there hasn't been much chatter on Jorge De La Rosa? #s weren't good last year but if he is willing to move into a multi inning relief role seems like he could be a fit on almost any roster if the price was right
Jeffrey Todd
3:06
Not surprised. No real reason for teams to prioritize him and possibly end up wishing they hadn't signed him when another opportunity arises.

Benintendi best prospect in baseball? Really?
Jeffrey Todd
3:07
Well, that would be because he hit really well in a reasonably extensive MLB run last year. Which is why I don't think he's worth discussing as a prospect.
Feel the same way about Swanson, Reyes, etc.

Ppl aren't sold on Quintana due to his peripherals....
Jeffrey Todd
3:09
I get not being sold that he's a true ace -- I don't think he is -- but ERA estimators like him as a 3.50 to 3.75 type of guy. And he has a track record of overperforming them. That's plenty valuable with his contract.

Should I consider going to the Rockies if they offered 3 years?
Jeffrey Todd
3:09
At his age, at least, definitely.
