Would the Phillies trade Velasquez in the right deal for a good, young outfielder?
Jeffrey Todd
3:10
It would have to be a guy they really like. I don't really buy the idea that they'd just move him b/c they have depth, even if the depth makes it more palatable to consider.
B Rad
3:11
Melky Cabrera a fit for the Phillies?
Jeffrey Todd
3:12
I could see that. Obviously they won't be interested in giving much to get him, but if the Sox are at all inclined to just get the money off the books then that could work. Melky hit quite well last year. Of course, he'd make more sense on an AL team that could use him as a DH at least some of the time.
Steve Adams is my co-pilot

The MLBPA, which Trout is a member, would supersede the local labor laws.
Jeffrey Todd
3:13
Not sure that's the case at all, but no doubt it would be raised in the two-year-long litigation that would follow his "opt out."
Jeff Luhnow
3:13
I want Trout. Springer, Bregman, Kyle Tucker and Francis Martes. You dig?
Jeffrey Todd
3:13
Finally, a real offer for Trout!

LOL
(Sorry to any kids in the chat, but I just can't enough of the Miss Schwarb references.)

I believe random guy

Which new-to-you MLB stadium do you most want to visit?
Jeffrey Todd
3:16
None seem all that interesting to me. Maybe Miami just b/c it seems so off-beat?
Andy
3:16
How much sense does a Dyson for Adams swap make for both STL and KC?
Jeffrey Todd
3:17
I'd value Dyson higher, esp since KC doesn't have a real replacement and you can get Adams-like hitters via free agency.
JB
3:17
Do the Giants have enough in their system to make a successful run at Todd Frazier
Jeffrey Todd
3:18
Yeah, not much demand so White Sox won't be able to put a high price tag on him. Haven't heard any suggestion of this, but it's not a bad idea.
Bill
3:19
will the Jays ever sign a corner OF, left handed bullpen arm and a backup catcher? Or will they be going internal candidates to fill these holes?
Jeffrey Todd
3:19
Don't see how they won't add at least one OF. And I am sure they'll at least get depth in the other areas.

I have asked consistently at every MLBTR chat this offseason if you guys think A-Rod will play again and have never once received an answer. I'm genuinely curious if there have been any rumblings and what you think of this happening? Humor me, would ya?
Jeffrey Todd
3:20
Pretty darn unlikely. Though he would be an interesting guy to face lefties for the Marlins. Hmmm...

It's been a few years since I had contracts in law school and understand the possible ramifications regarding existing California contracts but in the future teams can simply add a clause to deals making other states law a ls binding going foward
Jeffrey Todd
3:22
Don't think that would likely fly in CA, from my experiences in the state. But I am sure there would be other ways to get around it, and they'd probably be pursued if it was a real issue, IMO.
(Just guessing, haven't researched it into the ground. Enough of that topic ...)

What the hell is Alex Anthopolous doing now with the Dodgers? Why had he not been given another GM job that he deserves? Is his current role considered a promotion over a GM gig?
Jeffrey Todd
3:23
Not a promotion, but the indications I've seen are that he enjoys the role and isn't just dying to get back in the head chair. Seems like he's biding his time for a really good opportunity?

Grow addresses the CBA vs. California state law in his followup column on Deadspin. He was of the the opinion that there was a big legal grey area due to the fact that players don't become part of the MLBPA until they reach the majors.
Jeffrey Todd
3:25
Ah, Haven't seen that. Read that, I guess, if you're interested in learning more. Makes sense.
Jon
3:26
Haven't heard suggestions of Frazier to SF? Hahaha
Jeffrey Todd
And maybe others have, too. I mean clear reporting tying SFG to pursuit of Frazier.
Frank
3:28
Does Juan Lagares have much trade value? For example, could the Mets center a trade for a CFer such as Pollock around Matz and Lagares?
Jeffrey Todd
3:28
That's kind of an interesting scenario, b/c both Pollock and Matz have real health questions and Arizona would be adding control while picking up a solid defensive CF in Lagares.
3:29
I think that's the right idea for Lagares's trade value -- he'd be sort of a supplemental asset if he fit another team.
Mets
3:29
What would a Thor extension look like?
Jeffrey Todd
3:30
Can't really answer that in a chat, but I will say that it would be essentially a whole new kind of deal. No real comparables.
Norm
3:31
Any idea what kind of extension Kinsler is asking for, in order to approve being traded to the Dodgers?
Jeffrey Todd
3:31
No, but I can't see them doing it unless maybe it involves tacking on a year at a reasonable salary or something.
