Because Fedde seems to have unlocked something between his KBO stint and his early results with the White Sox, as evidenced by his adoption of a sweeper and some other changes to his repertoire.  As a result, teams might be more open to giving up something significant (again, short of a "haul") in a trade now that they have some proof that Fedde's changes can work against MLB hitters
Draft
8:26
Who do the Guardians take at #1 overall?
Mark P
8:27
Charlie Condon seems to be getting the most buzz at the moment, but the Guardians are a particularly interesting team to have the #1 pick just because they've so rarely been in this position in recent years.  Given the unlikelihood of their lottery win, I wonder how much they were even scouting the guys projected to be at the very top of the draft board.
8:34
We're in that annoying mode of running the chat while also updating a post, so bear with me while I'm on double duty here!
Jared Jones
8:35
Think it might be time for the Bucs to lockup Jared Jones long term?
Bob Nutting
8:35
I want to keep Paul Skenes here for 7 years or so, what kind of deal gets it done? Bello and Strider signed modest deals, will I have to blow these out of the water?
Mark P
8:36
Extending Jones seems likelier than Skenes, who will already be commanding a higher price tag than Bello or Strider given his draft pedigree and all the hype around his potential.
8:37
It would be a real nice sign of progress for the Pirates if they're willing to pay what it takes to lock Skenes up, or they might just enjoy him while he's under team control before exploring a future trade

Am I going to be different than Bloom at the deadline and make a move to buy or sell?
Mark P
8:38
Boston is very much still in the playoff race, and that's with a lineup that hasn't remotely hit up to its potential.  Right now I'd guess that the Sox will be buyers to some extent.
8:39
And to be accurate about Bloom, he did both buy and sell at the deadline, which made things a little confusing for fans about the team's direction
Owen L
8:41
How we feelin about yoshinobu yamamoto?
Mark P
8:42
Maybe it's just because a bunch of other bigger stories have been happening around baseball or because Ohtani and Betts have taken so much of the Dodgers-related focus.  But, it's kind of flown under the radar that Yamamoto has been pretty great in his first month and a half as a big leaguer.

Barring injury, do the O's have to get anyone other than RP at the deadline?
OriolesDynasty
8:42
Who might be a target for the Orioles at the trade deadline? We’re facing a roster crunch at several positions, making me think we would not add a position player or SP. Aside from Closer, is there anything we could be buyers for?
Mark P
8:43
I agree that the O's don't have any real need in terms of position players, or maybe even in the rotation.  Yeah, yeah, "you can never have enough pitching" and whatnot, but enough Orioles starters have performed well that their current busy schedule is actually a plus because it provides an easy excuse for a six-man rotation
Ghost of Bobby Thigpen
8:44
The White Sox struck early by moving Grossman for a guy with a chance to be a legitimate reliever already. My concern is, how much faith can we have in Getz, who failed miserably in his Player Development role to get the right pieces, AND put them in a position to be average to above average regulars?
Mark P
8:46
I don't have any real issue with Getz's work to date, as even though the Sox haven't truly publicly admitted they're rebuilding, Getz is taking a realistic view of what his organization needs to do.  So I won't write him off as a quality GM already, even though the circumstances of his hiring did make it seem like Jerry Reinsdorf settled for a familiar face rather than delve into a real intensive search
Mets fan
8:46
With Alonso’s reported offer of 7/158 that was turned down, do you think Alonso would be willing to take that offer now with his second straight down season?
Mark P
8:49
Probably not, since I'm sure Alonso thinks he can get on track this season and post some bigger numbers to line up his free agent case.  Alonso will be a fascinating player to watch this winter since while I think he'll ultimately land a big contract, he is also the guy among the top 2024-25 free agents I could see having to settle for a shorter-term deal with opt-outs
Bell, Josh
8:50
What would the Astros offer if Miami eats all of my salary?
Mark P
8:50
Though Bell seems to be in one of his sudden hot streaks, I'd imagine the Astros would want someone more consistent if they're looking for first base help
JT
8:52
Is CJ Abrams part of the next Nationals playoff team or will he be flipped for more prospects?
Mark P
8:52
I think he's a keeper, and a strong candidate to land a big extension
Pirate Maximus
8:53
How long before the reds ship out Lucas sims? A power arm seems like a desirable asset
Mark P
8:53
The walks and (this season) home runs are a big issue, but there are likely teams out there who think their coaches can fix Sims.  He's also a likely trade piece if the Reds become sellers
John
9:09
Jordan Westburg ROY?
Mark P
9:10
He no longer qualifies as a rookie, too much playing time last year
Schneider's mustache
9:11
Should I take all the credit for Davis's recent success? I don't plan on going anywhere.
Mark P
9:11
Why every Blue Jays hitter hasn't grown a theatrical mustache yet is beyond me
Bored in AAA
9:12
Hi, James Wood here. I'm finding AAA a little boring nowadays. Is there any hope of more challenging baseball soon? The Nationals have a home stand starting tomorrow, can I pack my bags?
Mark P
9:13
Hi James!  I guess you could head to Washington tomorrow, but you'd probably be told "what are you doing here, and why aren't you in Rochester?"

As much as Wood keeps forcing the issue, it'll still probably be closer to midseason before a promotion happens
Garrett
9:14
Does Caminero still have a shot at ROY?
Mark P
9:14
Mason Miller is building an awfully big edge in the race
Brent Rooker
9:15
Who am I playing for in August?
Mark P
9:18
Rooker is arb-controlled through 2027 but he's also turning 30 after the season, so the A's will probably be pretty open to striking while the iron is hot here.

There is no shortage of teams that could use offensive help in this pitching-dominated season.  The Padres, Mariners, or Royals immediately jump to mind as teams that could use Rooker's help
Armchair GM
9:19
Do you think the Astros will be Buyers, Sellers or Stand Patters come trade deadline?
Mark P
9:19
Buyers.  The Astros have been quietly playing much better ball over the last few weeks.
Dave
9:20
What are the chances that Greinke signs with anyone?
Mark P
9:22
My impression is that Greinke might be doing these workouts in equal parts because he has interest in a "comeback," and because it's a fun way to spend time with his baseball-mad kids.  Granted, that's pretty good motivation to keep pitching if his kids get a kick out of seeing their dad as a big leaguer
