Did they want Dozier, EE?
Jeffrey Todd
3:08
Seemed like they kinda had interest in both. One of them is as good/better hitter than Trumbo but plays second. The other is a much, much better hitter than Trumbo.

$18m plus seems a bit of an overpay for Bautista. What are your thoughts and do you think they will use him at 1b with Smoak/Pearce already set to platoon? The roster seems a bit odd to me so far, unless they are working on some other adjustments by ST.
Jeffrey Todd

Mentioned rotation above, re position.
But for the cost, I think it's a fair bet. The guy still has phenomenal plate discipline and did hit 25 bombs last year. If you look at his other contact stats and such, it doesn't look like 2016 was some kind of massive falloff.
3:10
Not to mention the fact that he will sell tickets.

Surprised Brandon Moss isn't linked to the Rangers more? I think he would be a great fit there and they could use him at 1B/OF/DH
Jeffrey Todd
3:11
Seems they might prefer a righty bat since they could use Choo at DH and have Gallo (and also Hamilton).

Nate Jones vs. Robertson who has more trade value for W Sox?
Jeffrey Todd
3:11
Jones, easily.
His contract is great and he's the younger and more dominant arm right now.
how about a Yadi question?
3:12
what would a Yadi extension look like with Carson Kelly (the best catching prospect in baseball) ready to contribute?
Jeffrey Todd
3:12
I mean, Yadi is old.
Like, five months older than me!
3:13
Oh man.
3:14
But look, I don't scout, so I can't give a fully formed opinion on Kelly. But the guy isn't exactly a Buster Posey type of prospect. He's pretty young and hasn't mastered the upper minors.
Yadi is a pretty unique guy, especially to that organization. So, where do you draw the line? Hard to see going past three years, for sure. But if he's willing to be a good sport about handing off the role to Kelly over that kind of span, maybe you pay a pretty hefty rate to do it?
3:15
Couple more and I gotta head out ...
BTW, re Yadi, one option would be something like the Chase Utley contract. Solid guarantee for two years with a couple of rolling vesting options.

Could Straily post a 3.80 ERA in spacious Miami?
Jeffrey Todd
3:16
Fact that he might benefit from pitching in a pitcher-friendly park doesn't make him a better pitcher. Would apply to anyone. Unless there's something about his profile that makes it a particularly good match that I don't know about.

Any reason to be excited about Jurickson Profar this year?
Jeffrey Todd
3:17
No more than any other year. Talent has always apparently been there, if prospect types are to be believed. But he hasn't yet shown it at the major league level.

Who are the top 3 rotations (on paper at least) going into ST?
Jeffrey Todd
3:18
Oh why not end on a note that is going to make everyone hate me?
3:19
I'm leaning Mets, Nats, Dodgers. Could argue for Giants, Red Sox, Cubs, Indians.

By the way, your pain is caused by a trapped radial nerve. You will need physio. You will also need a Nerve conduction test and an MRI. I am six weeks in to the same pain. They also found I had multiple tears in my rotator cuff with the ultrasound.

OH NO
Thanks for the opinion, doc. Dang.

Someone mentioned Moss above. Would he make sense for the Nats as a platoon with Zimmerman?
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
I've been saying this for months! Could still see some opening for it, though I doubt they'd put him in a strict platoon. Adding Eaton and Heisey didn't really help the fit.

sneaky moves phillies could do to help the rebuild?
Jeffrey Todd

Extending Herrera was a good one. Otherwise, pretty much keep doing what they are and look out for opportunities. Not sure I see anything beyond the typical playbook.

Okay ... I'm out of steam.
